Another Asia Cup. Not again. This tournament is mainly for those countries whose sportsmen are not good enough to win medals in multinational sporting events (such as Asian Games, Commonwealth games etc) and whose cricket boards want to earn money by riding piggyback on BCCI.

Cricket is not a part of common wealth games, olympics and Asian games but Asian cricket teams are healthy to win and defeat teams of gora log.

A game played seriously by just a few countries cannot be part of commonwealth, Olympics and Asian games. It was part of Asian games (BCCI did not participate though) but I am happy that it was taken off Asian games.

Glasshouses and stones.

1 BCCI makes money from having the intl games played. A lot of money. A lot of lot of money. I'm sure they take their cut, if not more than the rest.

2 Have you seen India's Olympics especially or World Cup soccer or rugby record? Compare it to non-Asian cricketing nations.

3 Noone is earning money off the BCCI - they're earning it off the fans in India watching their team play.

Enjoy your games from a NZC fan whose cricket team has not played since the first week of April and won't be playing in Sep neither - nor most of October!! Winning the America's Cup and Rugby World Cup and many Olympic golds are no consolation for what has been 2 years in a row of intl cricket starvation. 4 cricket tests in 18 months. Four!!!

NZC and SAC are getting crapped on by intl cricket. But tell me more about what a burden it is to have your team playing more games...

4 Test matches in 18 months!!!

What sort of scheduling is this?

Why doesn't NZ just pop over to Australia and play a quick 3 Test series?

Or invite Australia over?

Even Australia hasn't played Test cricket in a while now.

Our test home seasons overlap. But we're there for Boxing Day 2019. We play a lot of limited overs series against each other in the form of Chappel Hadlee - last year it was a t20 tri series with England.

Its Asian (excl India), WI and Eng games away we need more of, and more of anyone at home bar SL PAK And Bangas who are here all the time. They're very good to NZC by touring here almost every season it seems. India has gone a very long time without a single test in NZ. And is not due for a test in NZ until 2020. They were last here in 2014.

The fact is, NZ's home summer is built around SL, Pak and Bng else we'd have stuff all of a home programme, so NZC fans need to respect their boards for that. But SL is well overdue to host NZC back in return, NZ hasn't been there since 2012. 2019 is the reciprocal. NZ was last in Bangladesh in 2013. We go there next in 2020.

England's treatment to hosting NZ is not the best neither, though they are fairly regular tourists, albeit short tours.

They're probably waiting for Ross and Watling to retire, Trent and KW to get old and then invite us for more tours then.

Aus/ NZ playing test at least once @year regularly.sometime back to back in both countries.
Paddles, you are correct about Jennings :(1)
Lakmal Exploits overcast condition well, Jennings not use his feet well during his 18 ball innings

Australians lost interest in tests vs NZ since Crowe injured his knee in 1993/4 (1st test at WACA) - and with reason (to a limited extent). NZC's record against Australia has been fairly abysmal from then on despite 2 drawn series in Australia. Flemming's tour was rain effected and Doug Bracewell's inspired NZ win at Hobart has to somewhat go down as a fluke, because he has not ever re-emulated a bowling performance like it.

But this current group of NZC players has increased Aus interest at the Board level at least in playing NZ over Boxing Day. And Aus are of course hardly the mighty force that they once were. But the real question is whether the Aus fans will embrace the NZ team with ticket sales. And chances are that they won't. And then there's the question whether the NZ bowlers do anything on Aus's roads, or just go limp like England's seamers. Wagner of course will toil and bang it in short if fit (and he has caused Aus problems in the past with this tactic -but he's already 32 and we're talking 18 months away), but Southee and Boult need swing. Southee and Boult were popgun in Aus in 2016/16 except at Adelaide at night - when Boult started skittling them.

But - NZC should be at home playing tests at this time, touring Aus on peak does little to increase NZ's too few tests each year.

Wasn't that the series where McCullum and Watling slapped BCCI SO bad, they haven't recovered yet?

It is true that boards are earning money off the Indian fans, but it is the BCCI that through their marketing is making it happen. Pakistan is the second most populous cricket paying nation after India. Why PCB cannot be the second richest cricket board after India on its own by earning off Pakistan fans like how BCCI earns off Indian fans ?

Because population is only a factor of cricket wealth. BCCI may be the richest board - but per capita - how do Indians or Pakistanis compare to Brits or Aussies?

That's why!

(You do realise in the WSC era - they bought English cricketers in Aus - that was the late 70's). Population isn't everything for markets - but it is a factor!

It was indeed an outstanding innings from Mushfiqur.
He has been consistent for Bangladesh, right from the start of his career.
When Tamim came in to bat yesterday, with one hand all bandaged, it must have really inspired the Bangladesh team.

Hope they go on to win the tournament.

What a fantastic performance yesterday from Afghanistan.
I watched the whole match, from start to finish - and they were just SO good.
Not seen such a thoroughly clinical performance for a long time.

Very impressed by Rahmat.
Clean shots, mostly along the ground - on offside, legside, in the V.
His squarecut reminded me of Dravid.

The bowling was excellent too.
We know about Rashid and Mujeeb already - but even the others were very good.
Nabi bowled a very tight line and length, giving absolutely no width to the batsman.
Very much "you miss, I hit" type.
And Naib and Aftab Alam were very good too.

And the fielding - just superb!
They threw themselves at everything - preventing singles, getting run-outs.

The field placing by Asghar - 10/10.
And the bowlers bowled to their field.

This is one of the best performances I have seen in a long, long time.

Was already a big fan of Afghanistan, they are now my favourite team.

cant see India winning from here, cant see HK losing this. Their openers put on a new record partnership in ODIs. Bhuvi not fully fit, inexperience in their bowling, plus a bit sloppy 1st innings in which India was happy with the score, which historically is more than enough in Dubai but records, as we know, are meant to be broken.

BCCI got a good scare today.
Well played, Hong Kong.
Their openers looked tired and were limping towards the end of their innings.

BCCI batsmen are like Indian students. They do well when the examination involves rote memory (viz when pitch is flat and bowlers helpless). But they fall flat when the examination tests their understanding of the concepts (viz conditions helpful to the bowlers).

thx m8
actually if it's one factor that helped India get out of jail it's not Jadav or Chahal, fielding or whatever. It was the tiring pitch which traditionally makes it more difficult to get in as a batsman the more the innings progresses

I have no problems w that, but "then you must accept" as well that an opening stand of 170 odd for HK, w 2 half centuries cannot be called "failing". If nothing Anshuman needed to go on, because the openers were set.

hardik*s injury may actually bring Rahul in, massive boost.
Would be very nice if they bowled them out before the 50 overs, might be crucial. Rohit might have a couple of problems at the end , tho, with his bowling options.

And now vs india He just stumped
Paddles, you are correct about Jennings :(1)
Lakmal Exploits overcast condition well, Jennings not use his feet well during his 18 ball innings

yes I know, but it does not make sense: 8 innings 214 runs is an average of 26 odd, as far as I understand cricket stats

India cannot afford to slacken off now, these runs might prove costly at the end
