Re: Australia vs England: ODI Series; Jan 14-28, 2018 in Australia
I didn't even know Roy had moved from South Africa to England at age 10.
But then I don't follow limited-overs cricket & its players much.
Roy seems to have been slotted into limited-overs only.
Seems like a very talented bloke - and he's just 27.
England could have a very potent ODI squad for the next World Cup.
And it's in home conditions, so every reason for them to start as favourites.
They need to ensure they don't dilute their squad with Test match players like Root and Broad.
Every batsman should be a guy with a potential 150+ SR, even if he settles at 120 depending on match situation.
If you don't even have the capacity to explode, what sort of limited-overs batsman are you?
Root might be OK though - his current career SR is 86, not bad.
England's bowling might need work though.

Should have done my homework paddles. My point is so many of England's past players have learned their cricket in another country. Pietersen, Hick, Caddick, Malcolm, Robin Smith and Tony Grieg. No doubt there are plenty more. Their latest Keaton Jennings grew up in Joburg. There are also several Aussies..the latest two being Darren Pattinson and Sam Robson. In all there have been 66 foreign born players for England..
And? Its a popular country to migrate to. Great chances to make riches there and live a good life. Even better if you can miss their winters apparently.

What's bad about the winters is it's soggy and raining rather than splendorous snow scenes that you'd get in other countries. It can make it not even worth having a winter
But I'm in the countryside so I'm okay:

Hearing from a friend that Liverpool is freezing with frost and biting Arctic winds. Your winters are bitterly cold and your summers are usually wet and coolish with constant overcast. You can have your climate Boycs.

yeah its composition seems like an afterthought
I cant help but think the manner in which the domestic one day comp has been treated in recent times has contributed
really they're picking players based on T20 form
not sure how England manage their domestic season as they have all these formats too

This has been a poor Aussie ODI team for some time now.
We never really replaced Shane Watson.

Watson was a brilliant ODI player.
I don't think Australia are poor in ODI now, but Watson has left a difficult hole to fill. He was just so good with both bat and ball and so often this helped to get Australia over the line in close games. Sometimes he just blew the opposition away in not so close games.

There was no gloating during the test series by the Aussie posters some praise and some criticism so no one is bailing out as you imply.
Some inclusions like Travis Head and some omissions like Nathan Lyon were unpopular but England took advantage and played better.
For example England batsmen pierced the field Australian players hit the fielders such was the difference in ODI skill between the teams.

Australia gets its chance here at the SCG.
I expect Head to be dropped and hopefully Hazlewood Cummins and Lyon to return.

shouldn't we be replacing a batsman with another batsman?
also Cameron White is past it and not very good.

Head.
Zampla played game 1 (4 bwlr + 2ar). Was dropped for White in game 2 (3 bwlr + 2 ar). Now back to 4 bwlr + 2ar.

Zampa is OK but is not our best leggie IMO Swepson is. He got Bairstow with a wrong ún I wish he would use it a lot more the psychology being reinforcement to the batsman that it may be going either way more often.
Anyone for Lyon in lieu of Zampa?

I'm not a big fan of Zampa either. He bowls too many loose deliveries. He might be effective on assisting pitches and against teams like NZ who are clueless against leg spin but other than that he can be a serious liability.

I’ve only seen one reply of the catch and it didn’t look out to me. There’s a wiggle of the ball as it kind of chips up into the glove from
The ground.
I do accept that butler could have honestly believed he caught it though. I think any jumping up of the ball can be easily disguised amongst the glove hitting the ground

England had help from the Umpires but you can't take away Buttler's innings.
Looking back I think the Aussie selectors trialled too many dud players not the first time they have been guilty of underestimating the opposition after a bit of success.

Yeah Zampa has tormented NZ's batsmen in 4 matches now, plundering wickets at a mere 40+ runs each and bowling middle overs with a suffocating 5.6+ runs an over.

For starters pick limited overs specialist bowlers. Our Test attack, barring perhaps Starc, is suited to this format. The Poms pick specialists and they have just walloped our insipid Wattyls 3-0 to take the series.
