Congratulations, Afghanistan.
I don't mind us losing to Afghanistan, as long as we don't lose to BCCI.
BCCI U-19's first game is against Australia tomorrow.

Should be a ripper between The Aussies and the Indians today. I have seen quite a bit of the Baby Baggies over recent months and they have some seriously good talent for the future. Take Jason Sangha.. the first youth batsman since the Little Master to score a century against the England senior side. There are also three players with strong pedigrees..Will Sutherland..is the son of current Cricket Aust. CEO James while Austin Waugh is the son of Test great Steve Waugh. Mackenzie Harvey who at 17 and the baby of the side is the nephew of former Aussie all rounder Ian.

I do question why there are no red ball games being played these days as part of the Under 19 World Cup tournament?

When I read Steve’s biography I did wonder of his child (a youngster at time of printing) would be a cricketers.

Aussies lacking pace from their opening bowlers, specially Bartlett.. Mid 120kph on this flattish Tauranga track is too slow.. Ganguly says Indian opening bat Shaw already has 5 FC tons. I really dislike the wattyl colored clothing the Aussies are made to wear. No class or style.

Finally a wicket. Parum struggling to get any turn from this deck. Great catch by the skipper. That is the second Indian denied a century.

Jack Edwards deserved a five for.. Bartlett, Sutherland and Waugh could have done better. Why did Ralston only get 5 overs.

This promises to be a painful day of cricket.
First we lose to BCCI U-19, then England beats us in the ODI - and finally BCCI takes full control of the Centurion Test.
I don't know how I'm going to survive the day.

Why Austin Waugh bowling at the death? Very, very poor captaincy by Sangha, gave Waugh, Sutherland, Edwards and Uppal a fair number of overs so much so, it has probably cost us this game, That's the problem with him, gave his mates the opportunity. Why was Wilson McGillivray, Mitchell Connolly, Harrison Macoun not selected, especially Wilson? By the way Baggers 4/65 is hardly mind blowing, they were throwing the bat. He was sort of economical in his first spell, but they took him to the cleaners in his 2nd spell, at the cost of a few wickets. Very poor display by this particular team that doesn't have Nathan McSweeney playing, to save them, so a lot of work for him to do in the future matches.

Harsh against Edwards. Should have got a five for. He was the only bowler that executed his slower ball and oher variations. Agree Waugh should not have bowled at the death. You would have to agree your boy Bartlett was disappointing.. needs another 10kph to be a threat. Uppal did ok on a deck that gave him little turn. Why did Ralston only get 5 overs as he looked good in his opening spell. I expect those three you named will get a game in next match as the indians have a winning score on the board I fear. It wil depend how our boys play their spinners.

Nagarkoti bowling at upto 147 kmph. Shivam Mavi bowling at upto 144 kmph. I do not think there may be too many bowlers with this kind of pace in this U-19 world cup. And interestingly, these two have not even played first class cricket yet !

There are some people who think 3 % means three times and only three seats booked is described as only three seats left. Arjun Tendulkar may have bowled a delivery that was 50 % faster than his normal deliveries, viz 120 kmph instead of 80 kmph. That means bowling 150 % faster. That does not mean bowling at 150 kmph.

India too good. I did not like what I am saw from some of our batsmen against the spinners.. other than Sangha and Uppal and Merlo to a lesser extent there was no positive footwork. Great double by Edwards .. but where was the support? Useful contributions from Holt, Bryant and Merlo were too little to count. If we have a good seamer in the squad he must play in the next match.

As I said prior to the games Bartlett was lucky to be selected. Didn't play the Nationals, and apart from running rough shot over NSW in last years Futures, he wasn't the only one either, really has done nothing. The other three I mentioned were not selected to tour, apart from McSweeney.
Please explain Baggers "other than Sangha and Uppal and Merlo to a lesser extent there was no positive footwork". How can you tell Sangha 14 (23 balls) and Uppal 4 (5 balls). I'll give you Merlo who looked good, but Austin Waugh and Sutherland...nothing. It must be nice to have a father that will push other more deserving players out to get their sons in. Do you think Steve or Mark will hand Austin his Baggy Green. And knowing a lot of people involved with the youth cricketers, I'll say what they won't...DISGUSTING. If Jason Sangha can be selected based on his performance at the Nationals where is Angus Lovell who had a better average....he's back in Australia.

Sangha is a fine player of spin.. perhaps did not get the time in the middle today but his footwork is very positive and I like his intent against spin. I have also watched a great deal of Uppal and he is similar. Yes Merlo was ok but the rest were ordinary perferring to hit or sweep from the crease. Not good signs if these Kiwi decks take turn. From what I have seen of Austin he has to earn his Baggy Green Mike and not be given it. He has some potential.. that is it.

These Indian pacers have not yet played first class cricket. I hope selectors of their states were watching.

The selection process for these young kids is appalling. The National championships which were held not that long ago should be the guide and if we do that the team looks different.
Best Batsmen from the Nationals were, based on combination of runs scored and averages
Thomas Rogers (Vic) not selected
Ryan Hackney (NSW)
Param Uppal (NSW)
Max Bryant (QLD)
Jack White (Tas) not selected
Jack Edwards (NSW)
Harvey Mackenzie (Vic) not selected
Damien A Burrage (WA) not selected
Angus Lovell (Qld) not selected
Jarrod Freeman (Tas)
Best Bowlers
Wilson McGillivray (Vic) not selected
Lawrence Neil-Smith (NSW) not selected
Lloyd Pope (SA)
Jonathan A Merlo (VIC)
Aaron Hardie (WA) not selected
Jason Ralston (NSW)
Declan Curran (NT) not selected
Damien A Burrage (WA) not selected
Mitchell Connolly (QLD) not selected
Harrison Macoun (Qld) not selected
That's the top 20 players and add Baxter Holt (NSW) selected as the keeper. All rounder should be Damien Burrage but he is sitting back in WA. If they don't perform at the Nationals they should not be selected after all next year more than half these players won't be eligible for future selection, this was their one chance to get to represent Australia.
Also notice Baggers that apart from Lawrence Neil-Smith, a NSW player never dies wondering. Notice also Jason Sangha (C) (NSW) and Will Sutherland (vc) (VIC) not only didn't perform or play at the nationals compared to others, but they were handed the leadership positions, not to mention Austin Waugh (NSW). No wonder a lot of talent players do not pursue furthering their careers leaving the average players getting the opportunities which is not a good sign for the future.
If I was to select a 15 player touring side based on the nationals, it is a surprisingly fair selection
NSW Ryan Hackney, Baxter Holt (WK), Lawrence Neil-Smith, Param Uppal (all-rounder), Jack Edwards (all-rounder)
Vic Thomas Rogers, Harvey Mackenzie (all rounder), Wilson McGillivray, Jonathan Merlo
Qld Max Bryant, Angus Lovell
WA Damien Burrage (all rounder) Aaron Hardie
SA Lloyd Pope
Tas Jack White
Absolutely no bias in my selection and based on performances only, none based on "he has potential", performances only matter. 4 quality all rounders selected to increase batting depth and cover the bowlers. Lloyd Pope as the leggie with Uppal's off spinners, covers all aspects.
I can understand Nathan McSweeney's selection as he is making runs in the reserve grade state comp, which is a higher standard than the Nationals, scoring a century in his last game, yet probably the most talented batsman in the squad wasn't selected to play against a very good India side, very foolish of the selectors.

Mike I am 100% with you. We said the very same thing when the squad was announced. To not pick the best performed from the Nationals makes a mockery of our great game and sends the wrong message to all aspiring cricketers.MikeR68 wrote:baggygreenmania wrote:Sangha is a fine player of spin.. perhaps did not get the time in the middle today but his footwork is very positive and I like his intent against spin.

Totally with you on that squad Mike. I would add Sangha as he had some enticing lead in form. He was getting state cricket tons and became the second youth cricketer in history behind the Little Master to score a ton against an England senior side.
Sangha, Jason ACT 87* 284 (runs) 47.33(av)
Sangha, Jason ACT 5 (wkts) 37.20 (av) 4.35(e/r)
Those are decent figures.

CANADA: Randhir Sandhu, Pranav Sharma, Akash Gill, Arslan Khan (c), Kavian Naress, Kevin Singh, Krishen Samuel (wk), Aran Pathmanathan, Rishiv Joshi, Faisal Jamkhandi, Rommel Shahzad,
A little game for you. Name the home grown Caucasian Canadians from that squad. This is what is wrong with cricket today. Not sufficient effort is being made by the games custodians to entice home grown men and women to play this great sport. Many European National sides are also top heavy with players from Sub Continental backgrounds.
