That opening bowling from Ireland was not the best. Too many full, slow and wide balls as they searched for swing but down a wrong wide line too often enabling Ronchi to free his arms and hit through the off side with cover and point fielders inside the circle.

Ronchi has acored lots of domestic and even trst ryns since his rot - so its not a case of him back into odi form just yet.

More dissapointed in George Workers 17(39) scoring rate.

Latham is still nicking off.

I've seen little to suggest any good reliable support for KW, Gup and Taylor in those 3 just yet.

I suggest you to stop by at tri series thread

Chokers! Must be poor if Zampa snaffles two. Not much to do now, expect Tripathi to knock most of it off quickly, perhaps give the next dead rubber in Delhi a miss, roll on Tuesday!

I think Jaidev Unadkat under rated 21 wickets in only 10 games.

Absolutely. Such an improvement from last year, particularly in economy. I have shunned from using him in my fantasy team until now but with Sandeep gone, Unudkat has a place for these remaining games.

RCB rock stars must play good or perish in next year big IPL ALL HAND auction. Kohli is the only exception who would get a huge asking rate and might desperately want to change team.

Would have preferred a KXIP win in the match against RPS, but I'll take the result. RPS need to really pull out everything they have to beat Mumbai in Mumbai again.

Stokes looked quite committed out on the field even though he had little chance to make much of a contribution in today's game. Is there any way he can be persuaded to miss tonight's flight? Perhaps get a certificate from an RPS-fan local doctor saying that his eardrum is perforated and so he is not fit to fly for another 2 weeks? That is not a contraindication to playing cricket, of course. ;)

Folks
I have something for you even without IPL, could be more match fixer around

May 16 down the years

Indian cricketers get arrested

Ajit Chandila, Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan were arrested by Delhi police

2013
The IPL had been hit by controversy before, but just as the sixth season came to a close, it got its biggest jolt when three Rajasthan Royals bowlers - Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila - were arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly fulfilling promises made to bookmakers. A week later, Gurunath Meyiappan, Chennai Super Kings' team principal and the son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan, was arrested on charges of cheating, forgery and fraud. Pressure mounted on Srinivasan to hand in his resignation from the BCCI but he refused, even as the board secretary, treasurer and the IPL chairman handed in theirs. As a compromise, Srinivasan then agreed to step aside temporarily. The board set up an inquiry committee to look into the mess, but even before their investigations began, the Delhi police announced that the owner of the Rajasthan franchise, Raj Kundra, had confessed to betting on IPL matches.

1956
Jim Laker took all ten wickets for Surrey in a tour match against the Australians, a feat he would famously repeat in the Old Trafford Test later that summer. Here Laker took 10 for 88 and his spin partner Tony Lock 0 for 100 on a turner so raging that Ray Lindwall bowled only two out of 133 overs in Surrey's first innings. Ten weeks later Laker took 10 for 53 in the second innings of the fourth Test, to make it 19 for 90 in that match. Poor Lock was again the bridesmaid, with 1 for 116. Here, though, he at least cleaned up in the second innings, taking seven wickets to Laker's two. Lock himself also took all ten that summer, for Surrey against Kent at Blackheath, and 16 in the match. Laker wasn't playing, mind you.

2010
England's first global tournament win - and it came against Australia. England began the World T20 with a loss against hosts West Indies and a no-result against Ireland, but won their next four games to enter the final in Barbados, where it took them just 17 overs to chase 148. Ryan Sidebottom took 2 for 26 and Craig Kieswetter hit 63 off 49 balls.

1953
More remarkable events at The Oval where Surrey bowled out Warwickshire for 45 and 52 to win by an innings and 49 runs - and all inside a day, and one which started late because of overnight rain. Alec Bedser took 8 for 18 and 4 for 17, Laker a hat-trick, and in all, ten Warwickshire batsmen recorded ducks. The Warwickshire innings lasted 75 minutes and 70 minutes.

1906
Birth of the Australian fast bowler Ernie McCormick, who played 12 Tests just before the Second World War. At his best McCormick was genuinely quick, but he was constantly plagued by back trouble. Like Shane Warne, he took a wicket with his first ball in Ashes Tests: Stan Worthington, caught behind off the first delivery of the 1936-37 Brisbane Test, and in the same match he inflicted Wally Hammond's first Ashes duck. In his opening match in England, at Worcester in 1938, McCormick was no-balled for overstepping no fewer than 35 times, 19 of them in his first three overs. He died in Tweed Heads, New South Wales, in 1991.

1938
Don Bradman continued his amazing start to Australia's England tour with a massive 278 against MCC at Lord's. It came in only 349 minutes and included 35 fours and a six. His run of scores prior to the Test series were: 258, 58, 137, 278, 2, 143, 145*, 5, 30*. He didn't do too badly when the real action started either. Bradman cracked 434 runs at an average of 108 in the Tests.

1972
When left-arm spinner Matthew Hart, who was born today, made his New Zealand debut as a 21-year-old against Pakistan in Wellington in 1993-94, he was talked up as the next big thing. As it turned out, that was Daniel Vettori, and Hart's 12-Test career was a disappointment. He did play one match-winning hand, however, when he took eight South African wickets in Johannesburg in 1994-95. But too often Hart was anodyne: his strike rate was a wicket every 106 balls.

1982
Jamaican left-arm spinner Nikita Miller, born today, made his one-day debut in 2008. He took two wickets in the two games he got against Australia, and was picked for the series against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. Miller got his chance in Tests when most of the senior players boycotted the home series against Bangladesh in 2009, but he went wicketless in the one match he played. He went on to play the Champions Trophy, where he scored his maiden half-century, against Pakistan. Miller was picked for the 2011 World Cup but he went wicketless in the three games he played in the tournament.

Haha.

Can't even bear to follow today's game.

Even with Stokes and Tahir, RPS would have struggled to beat this resurgent Mumbai Indians side.

Without these two, I give them zero chance.

The biggest joke is when cricinfo says, Rahane will have to step up.

Rahane in T20 is a joke anyway. His SR is usually 100-120. His biggest contribution is when he gets dismissed cheaply. Best way to limit damage to team from him.

RPS VS MI may 16, 2017 @ mumbai

Rising Pune Supergiant are the only team that has beaten Mumbai Indians both times in this edition of the Indian Premier League, and among the current sides, are the only one to have an undefeated record against them at the Wankhede Stadium. But those stats would count for little when these two sides face off in the first Qualifier on Tuesday (May 16) that will determine one of the finalists of IPL 2017.

With five wins in their last six games leading into the play-offs, RPS will go in with a lot of confidence, but they'll also be wary of the might of MI, who despite losing some steam after becoming the first team to enter the second round, are a deadly force when it comes to the business-end of the tournament. The loser of this game will have another shot at making it to the final, but both teams will be eager to avoid that extra game which will only add to the pressure. Plus the fact that ever since the play-offs were introduced in 2011, only one team has gone on to clinch the title after ending up on the losing side in the first qualifier - that team being MI in 2013 - the teams won't leave any stone unturned to take the first flight to Hyderabad.

After losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, which came as a hurtful loss for MI as they could only manage a total of 138 while batting first, MI ran Kings XI Punjab close in a chase of 231, which Kieron Pollard had termed as a confidence booster. With a nine-run victory against KKR in their final league game, despite the absence of several key players, MI proved that they have enough resources to get the job done, which augurs well for the team.

It's been either fifty-plus scores or single-digit ones for Lendl Simmons in the four innings that he's played so far and MI will be counting on his familiarity with Wankhede to fire at the top of the order. That Rohit Sharma has scored a couple of fifties in the latter half of the league stage would also come as a big boost for MI, as would the form of Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. With Saurabh Tiwary and Ambati Rayudu doing well in the last game, Mumbai will have some selection headaches.

Among the bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah has been the stand-out performer for MI, with his ability to deliver key strikes and also his exemplary death-bowling skills serving the team well. Mitchell McClenaghan, for yet another season, remains a vital cog in the bowling department, although his tendency to leak runs remains a concern for MI, who will also be worried about Lasith Malinga's lack of impact. In Krunal Pandya and Harbhajan Singh, MI have two bankable spinners whose economy rates of less than 7 speak of their importance in the middle overs. There are more positives as compared to drawbacks for Mumbai, who'll be hoping for a collective effort to get the better of RPS, having failed to do so on earlier occasions.

On the other hand, Pune will be unsettled in the absence of two of their MVPs this season. The all-round skills of Ben Stokes and the wiles of Imran Tahir were among the chief reasons for RPS to sail through to the next round. However, both these players won't be with the team at their most important juncture due to national committments, which has left Pune with a lot to think about in terms of combination.

There will be extra responsibility on the Indian bowlers who have fared well for RPS this season, especially Jaydev Unadkat, who has been their most reliable bowler. The likes of Daniel Christian, Shardul Thakur and Washington Sundar have also done well, which is why no opposition has surpassed 170 the last six times that RPS have taken the field. But it remains to be seen how they go about in the face of pressure, should MI get off to a blistering start that they are well capable of.

What will also worry RPS is that Ajinkya Rahane and Mahendra Singh Dhoni haven't really set the stage on fire as far as their batting is concerned. Steven Smith and Rahul Tripathi have masked their inadequacies to an extent, but the former hasn't been converting his starts into substantial contributions with his last half-century coming seven innings ago. With Stokes no longer available to add depth to the batting order, Manoj Tiwary and Dhoni will need to step up their game further.

When: MI vs RPS, IPL 2017 Qualifier 1 - Tuesday, May 16 at 8:00 PM IST

Where: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

What to expect: The conditions are expected to favour the batsmen, as has been the case with Wankhede several times. The last game at this venue saw a target of 231 nearly being chased down and it wouldn't been wrong to expect another high-scoring feast. Teams have preferred to chase here, especially with the dew factor coming into play, which makes the toss crucial.

History: RPS have a 3-1 advantage heading into Tuesday's clash, with two of those wins coming at the Wankhede stadium.

Team News

Mumbai Indians:

Considering that Nitish Rana's form has waned as the tournament has progressed, the calmness that Ambati Rayudu brings with his game could be a good option for Mumbai Indians to have. Saurabh Tiwary, despite his half-century against KKR, could be the one to make way for Parthiv Patel, who has provided solid starts. The return of frontline bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mitchell McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga and Harbhajan Singh, would mean four more changes.

Probable XI: Parthiv Patel (wk), Lendl Simmons, Rohit Sharma (c), Ambati Rayudu, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell McClenaghan, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga

Rising Pune Supergiant:

In Adam Zampa, RPS found a readily available replacement for Tahir, but Stokes's departure has left a gaping hole, one that RPS might find very hard to plug. Lockie Ferguson and Usman Khawaja were two names that Ajinkya Rahane mentioned as possible replacements, but the England cricketer's all-round skills would be sorely missed, unless Dan Christian can step up a notch with the bat. Ferguson though, can come in handy with the extra pace option, restricting the batsmen upfront.

Needs to do it at a sr of 150 or over is raja's point misty.

I decided to replace Rahane with MSD. I think with such close teams and the importance of the game, it will not be a 200-run feast game, that the bowlers will dominate. We shall see.

Trahane has a career SR of 118 in T20s.
Traway is even better - his career SR is 116.

And RPS bid for them both - and they're batting together.

Impressive by his standards. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

With no Ben stokes and Tripathy and Smith shared 2 runs between them, AR's innings might be match winning vs JAIDEV UNADKAT who could take 4 more to level with Kumar

This is a farce of a tournament.
Might as well just give the trophy to MI, instead of making the opposition players go through the motions of pretending to put up a fight.

162 is a vast improvement on what they looked like getting at one stage.
Having said that, it's still hardly going to be enough to stop the rampaging MI batsmen.

Not sure if Mumbai have this kind of batting depth. Bumrah hasn't had to bet yet in this IPL. Pune have played this one very well and could be going straight to the final, who would have thought it!

It stopped them all right! I just hope that SRH or KKR (preferably the former but I don't mind either) put the boot in MI's collective face the second qualifier and rub it in.

PUNE'S Hat-trick in 2017 Season 10 IPL, beating Mumbai Indians 3rd time, this time 17 year old Washington Sunder too much to negotiate, plus leadership of Smith and 5 sixes of MSD change the game.

Congratulation MSD for 100+ catches in IPL plus 4 sixes in last 11 ball, first time MS hits 6 off Bumrah (2 now)

Yes he did it in style, while batting first,4 sixes in last 11 ball ( victory by 20 runs) MS is true Finisher of game.

Washington Sundar M.o.m with wickets of Rohit, pollard and dangerous Rayudu.

Wickets of Rohit Sharma, Rayudu and Pollard - wow!

Very well done, Washington Sundar.

Glad that Mumbai Indians have to play one more game now before they go on to win the finals and hold the trophy.

This is kinda opposite to his point but one I'd make to him in rebuttal.

Eliminator, Sunrisers Hyderabad v Kolkata Knight Riders
Bengaluru, May 17, 2017
Start time 2000 local (1430 GMT)

Tait: Rashid not a bad option at the top against Lynn

Head-to-head

This season: Sunrisers and KKR split their games in the group stages. KKR defended 172 at Eden Gardens in the first meeting. David Warner's response was a sensational 59-ball 126 in Hyderabad.

Overall: Sunrisers have won just four of 11 games against KKR. They won the Eliminator last season at the Feroz Shah Kotla, though.

Form guide
•Sunrisers Hyderabad: beat Lions by eight wickets, beat Mumbai by seven wickets, lost to Rising Pune by 12 runs

•Kolkata Knight Riders: lost to Mumbai by 9 runs, lost to Kings XI by 14 runs, beat RCB by six wickets

Big picture

Peaking early and losing momentum are results of various factors: fatigue, unavailability of key personnel, morale and even losing tosses. Going into the playoffs, those issues can hinder confidence, one of the most influential traits in professional sport. Sunrisers won six of their first 10 games. KKR won seven in the same period. In eight games since, both teams won three in total.

Sunrisers have managed change effectively. Having had to alter their combination and personnel, Sunrisers had reserves - Kane Williamson, Mohammad Nabi, Mohammad Siraj, Vijay Shankar and Bipul Sharma - who made telling contributions. They may be called on again - Ashish Nehra will play no further part this season with a hamstring injury and Yuvraj Singh will undergo a fitness test on Tuesday evening. Nabi, with a finger injury, is also doubtful.

KKR, on the other hand, have not found the right combination for their top order. Opening with Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn has cut Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan's roles to cameos. The uncontrollables - Chris Woakes and Shakib Al Hasan's departure for national duty, and Suryakumar Yadav and Nathan Coulter-Nile's injuries - damaged their balance.

Still, plenty has gone right for both teams. Either, or both, of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan have performed for Sunrisers. Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have been potent weapons at any stage of an innings. For KKR, their opening combination has put them ahead of games, leaving their finishers to execute their new roles. Bowlers from both sides have stepped up and delivered too.

In T20s, any player can break a game open, but under the pressure of a knockout, who will

Who should Sunrisers play in the Eliminator?

Kane Williamson, his experience and form is crucial in a knockout
Mohammad Nabi, his bowling and hitting ability add more value

See results »

The likely XIs
Sunrisers Hyderabad 1 David Warner (capt), 2 Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Moises Henriques, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Vijay Shankar, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Naman Ojha (wk), 8 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 9 Rashid Khan, 10 Mohammad Siraj, 11 Siddarth Kaul

Kolkata Knight Riders 1 Sunil Narine, 2 Chris Lynn, 3 Gautam Gambhir (capt), 4 Robin Uthappa (wk), 5 Manish Pandey, 6 Yusuf Pathan, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Kuldeep Yadav, 9 Umesh Yadav, 10 Trent Boult, 11 Ankit Rajpoot

Strategy punt

Start with a spin-pace combination against Narine and Lynn. Narine has struggled against short-pitched bowling this season. He has scored 214 runs in 120 balls, but just 18 off 18 short-pitched deliveries and has been dismissed four times. That length may not work against Lynn though; he has scored 77 runs off 28 short balls, a strike rate of 275.

Although Lynn hasn't been terrible against spin, slower bowling could be used to stall him. He has scored 178 runs off 85 balls against pace, but 107 runs off 68 balls against spin. Rashid or Nabi are plausible options against Lynn's pyrotechnics.

Stats that matter

• Warner and Dhawan have scored 50.07% of Sunrisers' runs (1072 of 2141). In the previous season, they contributed 53% of the team's runs. No other team has had two players who contributed even 40%.

• Narine is the only batsman to have been dismissed four times to short balls this season.

• Sunrisers' top-three batsmen have averaged 45.06, the best for any team. KKR have the next-best average with 36.83.

• KKR's bowlers have all made significant contributions. Their top two wicket-takers - Chris Woakes (17) and Umesh Yadav (14) - have taken 38.75% of their wickets, the lowest contributions from the top-two bowlers for any team.

• Kuldeep Yadav has taken seven wickets in the last five overs of an innings - the joint most for a spinner.

• KKR's batting power is at the top of their innings. They have scored the most runs in the Powerplay, with an average of 58.74 per game. They have the highest run-rate in the middle overs too - 1079 runs at 8.57 runs per over. They fade away towards the end overs though, scoring just 427 runs at 8.45 runs per over, the least among all team.

Qualifier 2: Mum Indians v TBA at Bengaluru on May 19, 2017 (20:00 local)
Final: Supergiant v TBA at Hyderabad (Deccan) on May 21, 2017 (20:00 local | 14:30 GMT)

KKR have only 2 matchwinner batsmen.

Sunil Narine & Yousuf Pathan.

These are the only guys who can take the game away from SRH.

Rest are in the Tr* category. :-)
