World Test Championship, 2021-2023 - As it hap

Pakistan tour of West Indies, 2021

✍️First Test, Kingston: The first Test between the West Indies and Pakistan in Jamaica too had its share of drama and action, with the hosts coming out on top by just one wicket. After bowling out Pakistan for 203, the West Indies needed 168 for a win. However, on a tricky pitch, they lost three quick wickets upfront. Jermaine Blackwood tried to resurrect the innings with an aggressive fifty but he fell to Hasan Ali. The West Indies soon found themselves in further trouble at 151 for 9 with Jomel Warrican getting out to Hasan. The last wicket pair of Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales then calmly took the side past the finish line to clinch a thrilling win. Incidentally, Seales also snared eight wickets in the game and was aptly adjudged the man of the match. On the other hand, Pakistan would rue grassed chances, including a couple of reprieves for Roach. The second Test of the series will be played at the same ground from August 20.

World Test Championship, 2021-2023 - As it happens

Second ✍️Test, Jamaica: Pakistan hit back with intent, racing time and weather to share the two-match series 1-1. West Indies opted to bowl and reduced the visitors to 2/3 inside four overs. But a fighting 166-run fourth-wicket stand between Babar Azam and Fawad Alam stabilized the visitors. Alam had to retire hurt as he was struggling from cramps in sapping conditions after which Kemar Roach returned the Pakistani captain. Pakistan ended Day 1 at 212/4. No play was possible due to rain on the second day. With a full day's rest, Alam recovered and returned to complete his fifth Test hundred, but Pakistan made a bold declaration at 302/9, just few overs before stumps as weather consumed time on Day 3 as well.

Pakistan started well with the ball, reducing West Indies to 39/3 at the end of the day's play. Shaheen Afridi then rattled the lower-order, recording career-best figures of 6/51 as the hosts slumped from 105/4 to 150 all-out. Pakistan brought out their T20 avatars in the second innings, scoring 176/6 in 27.2 overs, setting West Indies a target of 329. Kraigg Brathwaite and Co. were off to a pretty decent start, ending Day 4 at 49/1. But they lost their way on Day 5, slipping to 113/6 as Afridi, Hasan Ali and Nauman Ali hunted in pairs. Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers took the game deep and rain intervened too. But it cleared in time for Afridi to complete a 10-wicket haul for the match. West Indies bowled for 219, Pakistan won by 109 runs.

India tour of England, 2021

First✍️ Test, eng vs ind 2021 Nottingham: Jasprit Bumrah's nine-wicket haul in the match, and Joe Root's first century at home after a lengthy gap were the highlights of the first Test of the 2021-23 WTC cycle while it ended in a damp finish with both teams splitting points. Root top-scored for England in the first innings after they opted to bat as he struck a well-made 64. But there was limited support from the other end as Bumrah (4-46) and Mohammed Shami (3-28) struck at regular intervals to restrict the hosts to 183. India started their reply with a 97-run opening stand but lost quick wickets before KL Rahul (84), Ravindra Jadeja (56) and the tail-enders helped them to 278. Root's 109 in the second innings threatened a big target for India but they managed to limit it thanks to Bumrah's 5-64, leaving the visitors with 209 to win the first Test. India were 52 for 1 with the game tantalisingly poised but rain ruined the final day as the match ended in a draw.

✍️Second Test ind vs Eng 2021, Lord's:In what turned out to be an encounter full of sharp twists and turns, India overcame England by 151 runs at Lord's. At the start of the final day, India were in front by just 154 runs and with four wickets in hand. However, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah stitched an unbeaten stand of 89 for the ninth wicket to put the pressure back on on England, as the visitors finished with 298 for 8 declared in their second essay to set a target of 272. Mohammed Siraj, Shami, Bumrah and Ishant Sharma then combined to send England hurtling to 120 all out. Siraj, in particular, impressed with a four-for in the second dig. Earlier, KL Rahul (129) and Rohit Sharma (83) had piloted India to competitive score of 364 in their first innings. For the hosts, James Anderson bagged a five-for. England, though, took a slender lead of 27 on the back of Joe Root's undefeated 180.

✍️Third Test, ind vs eng, Leeds: A clinical bowling display, led by spearhead James Anderson's three-for, had sealed the fate of the game in just under two sessions when India were shot down for 78 despite opting to bat. However, from India's point of view, the game would be remembered as the one where Pujara (91) and Kohli (55) regained some of that lost touch. The pair batted and battled through the final session on day 3, after Rohit's defiant fifty knock earlier, to give India a faint outside chance, only for Ollie Robinson to dash those hopes the next morning and level the series at 1-1. In between was another scintillating Root hundred - third in as many games - that gave England complete control. Root's record knock helped England to a strong 432 in reply and ensured the hosts don't have to bat again. Once The Pujara-Kohl alliance was broken, the slide was rather swift for India who lost by an innings and 78 runs.

✍️Fourth Test, india vs England 2021 Oval: After conceding a first-innings lead of 99, thanks to batting contributions from the English lower-middle order, England would have fancied their chances of a back to back wins. But India fought back in the second innings, led by Rohit's superlative 127. Contributions came from all over - Pujara registered a second fifty, Rahul and Kohli made 40+ each, Pant posted a fifty too and Shardul Thakur made back-to-back half-centuries in the game. India had 466 on the board, and once the century opening stand between Burns and Hameed was broken, the bowlers ran through the English line-up to reinstate their lead in the series with an emphatic 157-run victory.

✍️The fifth and final Test of the series will start from September 10 in Manchester.
