Great! Happy for you

Here are some stock questions based on time you get

What food he likes or dislikes
What locations he want to visit on holidays
His personal off record opinions about IPL
Who is his favorite current player
Who caught his eye on young English talent
His views on county cricket survival wrt tv telecast
Is Sachin better than Bradman or not, why
Which cricket stadium he likes in England & outside England & why?
Which cricket commentator he hates the most!
If not cricket, what could he have become today? Actor/lawyer/used car salesman
Did he ever wore a lungi in his life, on tours perhaps

Ask him about Bumble's debut and how he got a chance.

And about being dropped after scoring a 100.

And about Botham running him out deliverately.

Ask him what he thought of the Indian spin quartet of Prasanna, Bedi, Chandra and Venkat (I'm most interested in Chandra, of course :-) ).

Ask him about the exile from English cricket (1974-77).

Ask him why he rates Sobers' bowling so highly. After all, his bowling stats are often scorned by modern-day "statistics-obsessed" cricket fans.

Ask him if he had to pick FIVE players who will score a combined total of 8000 points across the 2016 County Championship, to avoid being shot - who would he pick?

It was very good, very interesting and I was a little bit star-struck. Lovely venue, the Tabernacle in London, with very nice food and a posh bar downstairs. Manni Pattar and Jess Hutchinson from The Cricketer were there, and one of the magazine staff was popping round to everyone and asking them what they thought of the magazine. Simon Hughes was there chatting away and he hosted the evening. Then at 19:00 hours we went upstairs and sat in the theatre and it was SImon Mann interviewing Boycott asking him some questions sent in earlier by those who bought tickets to attend, and the floor was open for other questions now and then. Lots of talk on who was your best so-and-so and a lot on the future of Test cricket, vis a vis T20, the future of Nick Compton, things like that.

Geoffrey was on quite good form and very typical Geoffrey, tongue-in-cheek cockiness. Made a lot of comments about how good he was but I think with a humorous twinkle in his eyes these days. Took a lot of gentle ribbing from Hughes and Mann over his personality and batting style, it was all quite good natured.

I think the best moment was when he walked out and when he first spoke. It was quite surreal to see him in the flesh suddenly there. Often I hear that people you only know from television and radio appear quite different in person, but Boycott was exactly the same. He looks exactly like he does on TV, and when he spoke it was completely identical to how he comes across on TMS. And what with Mann being the interviewer, and TMS having such a banter-esque atmosphere anyway, it all fit in quite nicely and was very heartwarming.

One thing I noticed, despite being 75 years old, he is a sharp as a nail. Not a single pause, hesitation, um or uhh. Very eloquent and precise, clearly extremely knowledgeable about the game. And his passion and love, nay: adoration, of the game, is very obvious for all to see.

A great evening. I love my girlfriend for taking me :)

Always a little surprising how they don't look any different in person when you kinda think they would. I bumped into and got to speak with rob key Bob Willis Joel garner and Paul allott at Taunton at different times, and got to stand a couple of feet from Justin langer while he practised which was cool. Met Ashley Giles and trescothick to speak to also, but this is the first time meeting the favourite of favourites

I had forgotten about that.

I could have asked him who of the 10,000 club he rated most highly, I suspect given his era he'd pick border or sunny and then Lara.

Boycs would easily have been our first 10,000 run club member if he hadn't exiled himself

Re: I get to meet Geoffrey Boycott!!

Of course he would have.

In 1974 he played only the first Test against the visiting Indians - he would have scored at least 2 hundreds, considering even David Lloyd got a double hundred. :-) That was a terribly demotivated Indian side.
Then he missed the 3 Tests against the touring Pak side. Also plenty of runs on offer that he missed out on.

The Thomson/Lillee Ashes series in 1974-75 would have been tough probably. But he was THE hero (with John Snow) of that 1970-71 long Ashes series. And Boycs always relished a challenge. Cometh the Ashes, he always stepped up.

Also, with due respect to the Kiwi bowlers of the time, he'd have had 2 easy Tests at the end of that tour in New Zealand.

Then a home Ashes series (he'd have definitely done well!), a home series against the West Indies (when Viv plundered and Holding/Roberts were more than a handful), an away series in India (when Brearley opened with Amiss), the Centenary Test to mark 100 years of Test cricket, and the first Test in the 1977 Ashes (he came back for the second Test at Trent Bridge)...

He missed all this. :(

That's 2+3+6+2+4+5+5+1+1=29 Tests. Let's say 50 innings.

At an average of even just 40.00 (likely to be much more, since he was at his peak at the time), that's over 2000 runs he missed out on.

10,000+ for sure.

Alas, but he is who he is and perhaps would not have made any Test runs without the personality that he had, so we have to be content to worship him for what record he did get :P

He'd have had to play under Mike Denness - which he wouldn't have liked at all.
I think that was a big reason he exiled himself.

Hey, that's a question you could have asked him. Why exactly did he go into exile?
Am sure after all these years, he wouldn't mind opening up on the topic.
