Remember what happened this day (17 march ) nine years ago ?

It was on this day that BCCI played their first match of the world cup In West Indies. They faced Bangladesh. It was widely felt that BCCI were an overwhelming favourite, not only for this match but even for the title.

What happened in now history. BCCI were bowled out for 191. BD chased down the total losing five wickets and won a famous victory.

That day changed the history of cricket. BCCI lost this match and lost to Sri Lanka as well. With that they were eliminated from the world cup. Heads rolled. Greg Chappell was fired. Dravid too was removed from captaincy.

A few months later, England, after their inability to win the 50 overs a side world cup, came up with T20 world cup. This T20 was a new format that only England knew about and most other cricketing teams were clueless about this format so England were hoping to become champions of this format.

While other cricket teams agreed to participate, BCCI tried hard to avoid participating in it. After lots of arm twisting, BCCI agreed to participate but sent a very "weak" team. No Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly etc in it. People like Joginder Sharma were chosen.

Surprises of surprise, BCCI with this rag tag team actually defeated all supposedly better T20 playing nations and became champions. Overnight, BCCI discovered their love for T20. It subsequently led to IPL.

So, you see, the seeds of IPL were sown on that fateful day nine years ago, viz on 17 march 2007.

SQC.. ek aur historic moment forgetting nai kar rahe ho? Pakistan keen to follow their neighbors followed their neighbors and eclipsed that historical moment with their own historical moment that made our historical moment look like a molehill..

Mohe bhool gaye sawariyaa aaa aa aaa aa

Bob woolmer.. batting sikhaaye
saare out-ho jaavariyaaaa..
Mohe bhool gaye savariyaaa...

If this indeed was the day that triggered a series of events culminating in the creation of the IPL, it must count as THE most important day in Indian cricket history. Maybe world cricket history.
