Old VHS Tapes

Postby Pablog4000 » Tue Feb 09, 2016 7:29 pm

Hi,

New to this forum as I have just inherited a load of old VHS video tapes. There are a lot of old cricket matches (I haven't managed to even look through them there are so many! Let me dip in to them for a few examples:

England v W. Indies (6th Test, The Oval), 4th Day 27/08/95, 5th Day 28/08/95
England v NZ Fourth Test (Nottingham), 1st day 25/08/83, 2nd day 26/08/83, 4th day 28/08/83, 5th day 29/08/83
Nat West Final - Kent v Somerset 03/09/83

There are loads of these, from the early 80s to the 2000s. I absolutely HATE to throw them out. The person who recorded them did it very carefully and it clearly meant a lot.

Would someone somewhere want to look through these things? There may be something that isn't on YouTube or something that was thought lost.

Or is there a better place to ask?

Also there are proper bought tapes such as:

The Ashes: Victory In Australia (1987), John Arlott’s Vintage Cricket (1988), Cricketing Legends: Ray Illingworth (1989) (And many other in this series)...
Plus many more.

Any advice is very welcome. (I haven't even sorted through the books yet......)

Thanks

Pablo

To me, cricket matches of 1980s vintage are recent matches. Matches must be from 1960s and earlier before I can consider them as "old". :)

You should definitely record them onto a digital format to start with, which will at least prevent further degradation of the VHS tapes. After that it's up to you how much effort you put in. If you want to edit them and load them to youtube yourself, then you'd certainly be a minor internet celebrity, or if you wanted to forward them on to somebody else to do that then it's also an option. There's a fellow famous on youtube (robelinda2) for loading highlights of old cricket matches, it might be worth getting in contact with him.

I am in the UK!

I would be happy if someone wanted to upload things, I'd be happy to get them the tapes. I doubt I'd be able to do it myself as I have no idea how. :-s

Are there any YouTubers on this forum? Thanks!

Like Scrub has suggested, you could get in touch with Rob. He is a champion of cricket video uploads, esp of old games.
You could contact him on @robelinda2 .
He might be delighted to get his hands on some more videos.

Ebay that.

Moreover, put it on ebay.com.au first or at the same time as ebay uk if possible.

Aussies are obsessed with cricket and the ashes. Someone may pay overs incl the shipping.
If any moderator or administrator is able to add Going South to my foe list, I would greatly appreciate it.
