2nd Test: Sri Lanka v South Africa at SSC, Jul 24-28 2014

Postby SuperGLS » Thu Jul 24, 2014 1:58 am

Can Sri Lanka square the series?

Slightly Stupid Prediction: Mahela will get a hundred. (Only has 1 hundred against real teams in his last 30 test innings)

Holy shit is Imran Tahir bad. Average of one boundary ball per over is OK if you're beating the bat, but he's not even doing that. Clearly the best way to keep the pressure on after Steyn takes two wickets in 20 minutes is to bowl dross from then until lunch... if he was Pakistani I'd accuse him of matchfixing. He already holds the record for worst figures in a single test innings… let's see if he can beat 0/260.

Mahela looks like he's in standard FTB mode, which I quite enjoy as he looks so pretty when doing it. Giant hundred incoming.

This is going to be a draw for sure. This ground is as flat as can be. My classroom used to overlook this ground. My class watched a game that was played at this ground during the 96 world cup.

D is really making things hard for the Saffers by running up such a stiff target. He has completely screwed up the game for them.

Okay I can't help it...

It really is getting pretty hard for SA. They better rise out of the hole they are in. Dickwella is just going to keep coming at them. I wonder what they did to rub him the wrong way because at the moment he is giant tool in their back side. The Saffers must really be like 'what a cock! Stop hanging around already'.

Lol forgot about him and they both are wicket keepers too. Must be something about those stumps. I guess Steyn will come in soon to blow Dickwella away.

Oh Dickwella wasn't even there at the end. De Kock blocked his century!

Sorry guys it's Friday and it's been a few hours since beer o'clock.

Unfortunately Mahela is always going to carry the FTB tag. Hard to argue against when he averages in the low 30s/ high 20s in Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand. I would say he is a very good player, a graceful player even just not a legend.

So in other words an subcontinent player who doesn't do well outside the subcontinent. That's a new one. :)

India averages 34.00 in the subcontinent compared to 31.00 across the entire world, Sri Lankan 33.00 versus 31.50 across the entire world, and Pakistan 33.00 in the subcontinent compared to 30.00 everywhere else. So maybe failing abroad is not a subcontinent trait after all and I'm wrong :)

It's amusing that SA batted longer than SL but are still miles behind. If Duminy knew how to do anything against spin other than block they might even be ahead.

22.4 Mahela is reviewing, he reverse swept from outside leg stump, the ball popped up, Elgar rushed across from short leg, took it, and crashed into de Kock who had come forward as well, this seems to have clipped just at the start of the glove, below the wrist, or is it the bottom of the arm guard, umpire Llong thought it was glove, umpire Bowden seems to agree with him, for the finger is raised again, and Mahela walks back shaking his head 83/3

------

Mahela goes for a duck, after playing just 6 balls.

Why would you reverse-sweep so early in your innings?

The only explanation is that you want Tahir to continue to be picked for SA.

Sri Lanka should declare. They lead by 340 and 45 overs left in the day. Be positive and aggressive.

They've declared.
If the weather doesn't spoil this, this could be an exciting game from here.
Definitely closer than the Southampton game where England are thrashing BCCI.
