1st Test: England v India at Nottingham, July 9-13 2014

Postby SuperGLS » Tue Jul 08, 2014 12:39 pm

Less than a day until we get down to business.

I honestly think this will be a pretty close series.

Anyone with any Stupid Predictions post 'em up. Hopefully one of us does better than the last test.

English openers will be both not out at the end of the day regardless of who bats first.

That would make for a high scoring test. No sorry, I meant, two full innings from a team under 200 runs. Like 189 all out or 157 for 2 declared.

Yep also think that line up should be OK if wkt looks good for batting otherwise as Ankur suggests,Varoon for Ashwin.

With a brown slow wicket like this don't know why they left Ashwin out and Pissant in, especially as they have picked Binny.

FFS why can't these fukwits read a dry brown wicket

Darn. Pujara out. Was hoping he would score big here. Don't expect much from this team. If they are able to draw most of the games I will be pleasantly surprised. Don't see who is supposed to take the wickets.

This is what I meant, when I said India are at disadvantage, England have a good bowling attack, can create opportunity on good batting tracks, India cant.

Beefy grilling Ganguly on Sky about the DRS. Ganguly sounds very uncomfortable. Probably aware that if he steps out of line he can forget about fat commentary positions in India ever.

Indian batsmen could not have asked for a better pitch to bat on in the first test of the series. It can really get them going for the rest of the series.

Nah, two wickets straight after lunch, one straight after tea and no sign of anything else. I reckon those are Peter Moores's wickets and as soon as Cook starts making his own decisions he puts a bunch of close fielders in a ring where nothing is happening and leaves a huge gap down to third man. I mean, what is going on?
Sometimes I wonder whether life is easier for other people ... or whether they're just better at faking it.

I guess India did ok, so people lost interest.

In my opinion, India got their team horribly wrong, but so did England. That is pure luck. India wont be able to bowl out England on the last day to win, but English selection error means, India wont be put in a position to save the Test either, so draw, 0-0 going into second Test. Indian pacers should be refresher as Jadeja and Binny will take most of the bowling load on Day 5 with no result in sight.

I can understand England not going with a spinner other than Moeen Ali, but BCCI going only with Jadeja is a bit of a gamble.
Just goes to show that confidence in Ashwin's wicket-taking ability on these wickets is really low.

I haven't seen the itinerary but it seems 5 Tests have been cramped into a very tight schedule.
So captains need to make sure their bowlers aren't overworked.

I think this could work in BCCI's favour.

I have a feeling Anderson and/or Broad will not last the entire series.
