Postby givemeahug786 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 12:28 pm

Hello,
I open the thread on behalf of raja who will post results.Last year we opened thread Very late (instead of 24 hours I request 9 days)

A simple game/quiz on the eve of the tournament:

Tournament-level (1000 points each):
1) Who will win the trophy?
2) Who will end up at the bottom?
3)Who will score the max runs?
4) How many centuries will be scored in this edition?

For each game, before the start of the game
- guess the winner: 100 points
- guess the Player of the Match - 300 points

So come on guys, let's see how well you know your IPL players/teams. :-)

please submit your entries within the next 9 days . :-)[/quote]

We have same time as 2018 IPL for 2 games @ day
4 pm IST and 8 pm IST

I hope to be the one saying ha ha ha at the end of the tournament and not just because MI came last. :D

By the way, from March 23rd onward the Bum, whom I otherwise consider one of the best limited overs bowlers on the planet, will be my arch enemy for a certain period.

Thanks for starting this, GMAH.

Haven't got into the IPL mood yet, but it's so close now, need to warm up. :-)

Here are my predictions:

- Winner: Mumbai Indians
- Bottom: RCB
- Max runs: Rohit Sharma
- No. of centuries: 7

As you can see, I have tried the opposite of Daanav.
We both have the same goal (both of us want to see MI at the bottom) - but our strategies are different.
I use the jinxing approach. :-)

For the next few weeks, Bumrah, Hardik, Rohit and Krunal - I hope you're really really out of form. :-)

The Bum will get married and go on a Honeymoon to Outer Mongolia.

Hardik Pandya is going to develop unrelenting diarrhoea for the duration.

Rohit Sharma will be on the run from the Mumbai mafia hired by his debtors. He'll be hiding in Patagonia but I won't tell anyone.

Krunal Pandya will turn Buddhist and spend 12 straight weeks meditating in Laos.

Keiron Pollard will discover his Inca ancestry and go to the Peruvian Andes searching for relatives.

He borrowed the money recklessly and is now unable to return it. That's why he's going on the run.

:lmao:

Amen.

I'd even forgotten about Pollard!

Isn't there a limit to the array of superstars MI have?

And there are the annoying Markande, Suryakumar Yadav types.

When the big names miraculously fail, this "we also exist" lot win MI games.

Suryakumar Yadav is one of the most under-rated cricketers out there.

Yes, SKY is underrated but what else do you expect playing for MI? Perhaps they should field test him for ODIs with the World Cup in mind. Another opening option certainly will not hurt India.

Back to Mumbai and IPL, we forgot the wily old fox Lasith Malinga, who suddenly seems to be bowling like his best days in T20 games just as IPL approaches. Must be some sort of MI conspiracy!

QdK! We forgot QdK. He is great batting form and (bloody hell) plays for MI too! Perhaps we should try introducing him to the delights of Ice Hockey and send him to Canada for training.

MI bought smart to begin with. Their Indian core is the best in the comp. But they found a star in Krunal with hard work.

With their ill-gotten money and shady deals, they can afford to buy any player of their choice. I would not put it past the MI management to check the backgrounds of every Indian player they want and add a hint of blackmail so that they don't get ideas about moving to another team. That done, they can afford to pay their overseas players what they want.

Come on. You sure hate Mumbai team. We get it. Checking background and blackmail to get cheaper deal is far fetched. Players prefer it over other teams because money is guaranteed and checks do come on time instead of delays. Heard some teams did not pay for an year and BCCI has to get involved to clear the checks. You need to appreciate the way the team is run very professionally just like what you expect from a highly successful top 20 business organization in the world.

OK, maybe I am sounding off a bit because I don't like the MI team (bloody guys are on Netflix now!) but if you are an Indian, I am sure you know what a "professionally run, highly successful Mumbai based organisation" really means in almost all cases. I am not saying rest of them are all above board but Mumbai big-business is the absolute pits. Somehow, the arrogance that goes with it transfers itself all the way dowm the pyramid, including the individual players in this case.

A classic example is Hardik Pandya. Despite some question marks about some of his public statements, he comes across as an OK guy and one of the team when he plays for India. But put him in a slightly darker and lustrous shade of blue and he assumes all sorts of arrogant airs and graces. The same is true of many MI players, even overseas ones. Keiron Pollard was fine when he played for the Windies but altogether a different personality in his Mumbai blues. There is a certain herd instinct in being part of the Mumbai Indians team that I find utterly despicable.

True. About Netflix, a while ago I was browsing new content and this pops up as my “recommended content” I was like WTF. this is in USA and as I watched the “sacred games” awesome best one lately and I got this ON MY FACE!
Well. I might watch it all one day binge style after IPL if I get withdrawal symptoms like last year ;)

It was a few years ago that I noticed what I call the "MI effect" on the team's individual players while playing RCB, my home team. At first I thought that I was imagining it because I supported RCB, but over the next couple of seasons I became convinced that this was more than supporter bias. Don't take my word for it, but observe it yourselves ..... every MI player's body language in a match where the opposition is not your favourite team (so that you can be neutral). At first it might seem like the MI management simply train their players to a good team spirit, but it is definitely NOT that. IPL is essentially a sporting business but the way Mumbai Indians go about it there is something almost sinister in the robotic way the players behave on the field. It is almost as though they have been hypnotised to giving their best...or else. Some of you might scoff at that but I believe that there is something not really sportsmanlike about the Mumbai Indian team's structure.

Ben Cutting is almost unheard of outside his Mumbai Blues. Yet, on the few occasions that he is called upon to render his services the degree of commitment is almost frightening. This Markhande chap is not even being considered for the national team and yet MI think that he is a useful weapon. The Bum never shows the degree of commitment to the Indian national team as he does with MI.

When was the last time Mitch M was even in a NZ team shortlist?

Mitch M has found a way to succeed on Indian pitches (or against Indian batsmen) that he doesn't share on NZ and Australian ones. He was chosen ahead of Boult and Southee in WT2016 for this reason. But he's not really all that and a bag of chips. I wouldn't be surprised if he loses his place to Adam Milne during this IPL if Milne remains fit. Maybe even Malinga or Behrendorf. The Australian BBL found Mitch very hittable on their harder and bouncier surfaces.

Mumbai are definitely well drilled though. Shane Bond is probably the highest rated and in demand bowling coach there is. Jayawardene is no fool neither.

As for Cutting, he's known globally. He went from a bowler to an all-rounder with the Brisbane Heat, that's how he got into the IPL. All the intl players are established elsewhere. But for all his impressive 6 hitting, his bowling is not the best. His stats last year were pretty ordinary as his bowling gets weaker every year.

Some of the coaches seemingly don't know how to put a squad together. MI, CSK and SRH do not have this problem. But SRH will miss Dhawan this year as the 4 import rule will now be stretched for them to get Rashid and Shakib bowling, with a top import order of KW and Warner. Doesn't matter how good Guptill or Bairstow are when they're sitting on the bench.

I believe Mumbai players would be getting performance based incentives under the table via black money schemes & special privileges. There was a time Gayle flew private charter plane at his peak, I am sure Mumbai continue this tradition.

And probably some sort of specialised psycho-counselling. Otherwise, it is hard to explain that soulless, robotic approach in IPLs, something that you never see in the individual players when they are at non-IPL games or outside MI team.

Re: IPL 2019 Prediction

Postby raja » Thu Mar 21, 2019 2:14 pm

Ok guys,

NOW I'm getting into the IPL mood. :-)

I remember last time we had a match-by-match prediction, which made us all even keener followers.

I remember there were many games when I couldn't care less about the result as long as my player won MoM.
(of course this never included Mumbai Indians games - I ALWAYS care about the result of those. :-))

So let's have the same for this year.

For every match, please predict the following:

- Who will win? 100 points
- Who will be MoM? 300 points (I know GMAH had mentioned 200 in the opening post (I've changed it to 300), it needs to be at least 3 times more meaningful than just a 50% probability that gives you 100 points)

----

Not much time left for the first game to start, so please come up with your predictions in time.

Note:
No predictions for a game, once it has started.
CF Referee (i.e my) decision is final.
I might be open to inducements though.
Non-monetary. Just make sure MI lose, and I'll throw in some points on the side for you when no one's noticing. :-)

if 2 games @day than toss at 3.30 pm

Ok, it's enough if the predictions are made before the first ball is bowled.
So even after the toss.

This year’s IPL Match is going to be close. The teams are more evenly matched than ever and players look more ready than ever. But even then, there are certain chinks in every team’s armour that makes this tournament really exciting. It will be interesting to see, which team ups their cricket game and which fails to deliver. In the end, even though the margins will be fine, there can only be one winner.

Four teams make our IPL Playoffs this season. Defending Champions CSK are joined by Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad while Royal Challengers Bangalore completes the line-up of the playoffs. In the end, RCB could pull off an upset and nick a win but our money is on Sunrisers Hyderabad to take the title on May 12 at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

I think CSK will win this time as well. What's your thought on Cricket World Cup 2019 Prediction? I think England will reach the finals this time and will be playing against India.

I hope (rather forlornly) that RCB somehow win the trophy this time. If they don't, I don't mind any of SRH, CSK, RR, DD (or whatever they now call themselves), KXIP or KKR win. As long as it is not that #"$&*@! MI winning, I am happy.

Regional news paper (gujarati-Divyabhaskar) says "RCB not able to beat CSK in last 5 years"

Chiku very optimistic about their form and victory in up coming game.

After game-1:
GS 100
GMAH 100
Raja 100

Everyone got the winner right (guess it was a sort of no-brainer :-)), but no one got the MoM right.

People who want to join this prediction game are free to join anytime.
