2018 County Championship IHAG

Postby Boycs » Fri Mar 23, 2018 3:49 pm

These are the forgeries of jealousy;
And never, since the middle summer's spring,
Met we on hill, in dale, forest, or mead,
By paved fountain or by rushy brook,
Or in the beached margent of the sea,
To dance our ringlets to the whistling wind,
But with thy brawls thou hast disturbed our sport.

- A Midsummer Night's Dream Act II, Scene I.

March is swiftly retreating into the gloom and April is coming into view over the rise. The people of CricForum have spoken. It is time. The 2018 County Championship IHAG is ready to go.

Five players.

Five thousand points is the game.

Name your teams below, and let us play.

if my players play international cricket and skip in the middle, do i get pick replacements?

if so, I pick all top 5 yorkshire men that are currently playing in international teams just like last time around.

Well I’m open to people’s thoughts on this. Initially I thought that having to identify players good enough to earn you points but not good enough to be selected for internationals and thus not play in the championship was part of the challenge that made it interesting.

But if you or others would rather have swapsies I’m happy to go by consensus.

It would also protect you from mid season retirements and massive injuries

Is it any five players or 2 batsmen/2 bowlers and a keeper?

Any five players.

And GS one though I did have is to allow everyone a maximum of two swaps.

BUT if you swap them you substitute the outgoing players already received points for that of the new incoming player. You don’t have half of one players points added to half of the replacements points. So if you’re guy had a great season prior to getting injured you’d lose your points if you swapped.

This would be partly because it’s too hard to calculate!

Right I’m starting on my five.

1. Marcus Trescothick

Out of loyalty to my first ever favourite who hopefully will make a full season. Well aware he might not make many runs. It’s his testimonial year too

2. Ben Foakes

Got some runs last season and is an up and coming “player to watch” according to the pundits. Hopefully won’t get selected for England what with bairstow being so secure in his spot but there’s a risk he gets 12th-manned

3. Ben Coad

Really burst onto the scene last year hopefully will do more of the same, but too new to get picked for England i suspect

4. Jamie Porter

One of the Mirror's players of the season for 2017, 209 FC wickets at 23.64. Slight danger of being picked for Lions matches but probably not on the selectors minds for full international duty, and finished last season with a number of consecutive four-wicket hauls. Might be a rewarding pick but a bit of a risk.

5. Pujara

I've bitten the bullet a little bit as I'm nervous that Pujara will not feature in many games in CC however you just have to hope (if you want me to win, that is) that he scores centuries in his few appearances. Have picked him over Kohli due the likelihood of playing more CC games as he is not in India's ODI set up and has more experience and a better record playing in England (so far).

But they will spend much of their season playing for India won't they, maybe 2 or 3 appearances?

Yes, not sure about the schedule. Kohli is the star attraction.

"Virat Kohli will be playing for the top English County side Surrey in the month of June. The BCCI has allowed him to fully focus on the England Test series along with Cheteshwar Pujara (Yorkshire), Ravichandran Ashwin (Warwickshire) and Ishant Sharma (Sussex). Virat will miss the Test match against Afghanistan in Bangalore from June 14-18," COA chief Vinod Rai told PTI during an interaction.

-------------

I am afraid these cricketers would suffer from burnout.

IPL also results in burnout. By the time, the cricketers are ready for internationals, they are a jaded lot.

But IPL is money and whatever the cricketers would say publicly, none want to miss it.

I've heeded your thoughts a little bolero, and my team (my reasons are in my earlier post) is:

Marcus Trescothick
Ben Foakes
Ben Coad
Ian Bell
C Pujara

2018 County Championship IHAG

Postby Going South » Wed Apr 04, 2018 1:22 pm

what is exact start & end date of county matches?
what is ECB window for internationals?
what is IPL window ?

if they overlap you miss on players.

its pakistan, australia & india back to back matches starting from May. You get ECB rockstars available for only a month. That too if they are not playing IPL as it would be their priority.
For a English player the priority is
international games > IPL > county games.

Hmmm

I need to pick NO-NAME heroes for my team???

tough ask.

That’s what I think makes this IHAG a bit more interesting. Your picks have to be good but not too good

I’ve swapped out Porter for Ian Bell now, convinced myself yesterday when thinking about how good he was to watch when in full flow.

We will see....

Looks like I’m the only one playing though :P

Steyn has signed for somewhere though and I don’t think he’s getting picked for SA this year so might be a good bet?
