Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
A lot of the pics so far are players that I was considering (except for Syd Barnes) - I dont know that says about all your pics.
I need to read up on Syd Barnes - I am highly sceptical that he can still be considered all that good - werent they still bowling underarm when he was playing?
I somehow thought Ashwin might possibly make it back to my next pick.

Am not surprised that some have not heard of Syd Barnes of England.
Not to be confused with Sid Barnes, Aussie opener in the 1930s.
Syd Barnes deserves to be much better-known.

Over arm but with his profile talking about him imparting spin on the ball as well as swing so I can't image it would be massively fast

rajaesh,
please sort out how many wickets Barnes or whatever your selection is, take in 8 ball overs? because ****** and some others were outstanding because of 8 ball over in the past than sometime later its changed to 6 ball per over.
50 overs of 8 ball =400 ball
50 overs of 6 ball =300 ball
=======================
above he get more chance to reach highest number of wickets in 100 ball.

Misty, the way I read that suggests that smith would not be eligible as by the time this draft finishes smith would have played 51 tests.

2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
My next pick is current most famous TV icon around the world, the lead actor of GAME OF THRONES
49 tests,202 wickets. 8 5w hauls one 10w haul.
He is one of the all time BEST 60s era bowler in those infamous ENGLISH CONDITIONS
For eight years from the mid-1960s This bowler was, by some margin, England's best fast bowler. He was strong-willed and difficult, and, being subject to the whims of English panels of selectors, he won only 49 Test caps. Even more absurdly, he went on only three tours.
English politics meh. He was dropped twice in unusual circumstances: by Sussex for "not trying", witch hunt indeed.
His superior artistic flair was manifest in two published books of poetry, and in retirement he unexpectedly set up a successful travel agency. For England he reached his peak in West Indies and Australia, where his whopping 31 Test wickets in 1970-71. Whoa !!!
In rhythm, accuracy, pace and possession of a vicious bouncer, he had much in common with Glenn McGrath of Australia as a spearhead. But in one respect they widely differed: Snow never needed to resort to sledging to make a batsman feel uncomfortable. His air of menace said it all.
A true gentleman of cricket Mr John Snow

Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
It's my turn right? If so, I'm going for what will be considered a bit of a left-field choice, Vernon Philander. Phenomenal Test bowling average of 21.59, and so can only imagine what he may have done on the uncovered pitches of yesteryear which a lot of the bowlers with better averages would have bowled on. Batting average slightly higher than his bowling average too which is always a nice bonus.

Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
Am beginning to think we should have probably limited this to past players. :-)
Not that the current players are bad, but the draft becomes a lot less fun if we pick current players.
The fun for me was in picking past players, who, for whatever reason, played less than 50 Tests.
Current guys, Ashwin or Philander, are almost certainly going to end up with > 50 Tests, so if we'd had this draft at the end of their careers, they wouldn't be eligible. So, except for the time-of-draft, they're in the same league as a 50+ player.
I'd request Ted to reconsider the rules, even if we're into the 2nd round now. I foresee a LOT of current players being picked - so better change rules now, than allow this to continue.
The 2 players picked so far can easily be substituted. Let's not allow this to continue.
Maybe set a rule, player should have officially retired, or should not have played for his country for the last 5 years.
It's Ted's call, I can only request.
For me, it's about the fun in picking, not who wins or loses the draft.

Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
Why always past player drafts?
I say we should have a draft with just currently playing test player draft.
It's so boring to see same old names again and again and again and again.
A concession would be pick only players that debuted after 1990.

Fair enough. Let's make that the next draft then. :-)
For this one, let's not dilute the fun by allowing current players.
Btw, you realise that your selection criterion of 1990 excludes golden boy, Sachin, right? :-)

Why not sachin?
Is it because he is born Indian that you hate him that much ?
Had sachin born in Pakistan he would be a cricket god for you too? OMG. hate has no boundaries.
Last checked sachin is indeed the BEST EVER BATSMAN ever played the game of cricket. Duh !
A rule is a rule. One should not make it up to fit it one way or other ALL THE TIME.
some people live in the past.
Some live in future.
Some live in current time taking life as it comes a day at a time.
To each their own.
If your view does not fit with others so be it and respect others no matter what.
If you act like MY WAY IS HIGHWAY that's most illogical & prejudiced thing to do.

GS, I wasn't the one who proposed a cut-off of 1990, and thus, ensured Sachin's exclusion. :-)
If we have a draft starting with 1989 (thus making him eligible), I've no problem with it.

STEVE SMITH
50 Matches, 4693 runs @ 60 including 17 hundreds and 19 fifties
Good all round cricketer, excellent fieldsmen and can bowl some right arm pies but I wouldn't let him captain my under 12s team I coach, truly awful captain.

Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
The view on Smith (as stated before) is he will be eliminated IF he reaches 51 tests before this game concludes..... (You may want to change your pick).
Regards Rajas thoughts my view is we have done players from the past before. The 50 game limit just rules out the legends - no one can pick current players like abdv, kohli or root etc so the rules stay as they are.
New players (like AK) can join up to the end of the second round if they wish.

Yea sorry I haven't read a single post in this thread, want me to change? Indias not for a few months anyhow

IMO if you were going to pull that twist Philander should be banned as well because every retard and there dog knows he'll play more then 50, in fact every current player should be.

As you say it's a gamble, next tests not for a while and this draft is going quickly so far. Note by conclusion I meant voting wrapped up and everything. It's up to you.
By pure coincidence "life is a highway" was playing on the radio the moment I read that sentence.

Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
Let's put a deadline on 50 test rule.
By march 1st 2017 the player should not play 50 test rule.
2 months is enough time for this draft.

I think it's over 50. So by March 1st 2017 player should have no more than 50 caps.

You can go inbetween SG/boycaught and me.
Only one pick at a time, you can make your first round pick at the end of the game. I think that's the rules we used in the previous drafts.
Although if people can think of a better way let me know.

Re: 2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)
Good one, Misty!
I knew Grimmett would go this round.
There are a lot of great yesteryear players out there, who didn't get to play 50 Tests.
