ok, ok, ok....

I've not read the last few posts - but I would be very surprised if this guys been picked already.

I could probably have picked him later but this guy completes my main bowling foursome - and there are hundreds of decent middle order batsmen I can choose from.

I think this guy still holds the record for the most number of wickets in a single Sheffield shield season, former Allan Border medal winner, he bowls pace, off spin or a combination of the two - known for his funky hair colouring and over enthusiasm in the field - its Colin Funky Miller.

Ok, I'm thinking ahead to the post draft stage of the game again.

Not everyone enjoys or can rate every single other team in the game. (I know some people do).

So, was thinking that we all review (at least) ONE team.

We would each pick the person one place before us on the list. i.e AK reviews my team, I review Rajas team, Raja reviews Leos team etc. etc.

These reviews would take the place of the team presentation thread.

When reviewing each team review the balance, batting depth, fielding, bowling etc. Also consider how the team would do on a tour of South Africa, India and England today. (Each series 5 tests).

You can begin this process now too, if you like

You'd still be free to comment / review each others teams etc.

If you don't pick your next pick soon I will go ahead. Technically you made a pick already. It's your problem the player is already taken.

Haha.

Bishop is one of many players from my blacklist period.

There was this period 1988 - 1998 when I followed very little cricket. In fact I followed nothing that didn't involve England.

Which is why I missed out on much of the careers of Dean Jones, Carl Hooper, Mark Waugh, Sachin Tendulkar and some others who were stars in this period.

Bishop was part of this.

But I checked out his career recently - and he seems to have been a pretty good bowler, whose career ended early due to injury.

Yes I am Misty because Ted do not know Peaceful

Charlie Turner will be my strike fast bowler,i am in search for well balance team but my choice basically series in sub continent so you notices my team has verity's of well balanced spinner plus

What impress me most was his 10 wickets Haul in First class cricket:35 times, but its took him only 17 test (30 innings) for 101 test wickets:7 for 43 his best bowling in an innings and 12 for 87 best in single test, Average (bowling) 16.53. Econ.1.93

4 wickets 3 times
5 wickets 11 times
10 wickets 2 times.

Charlie Turner my first fast bowler,i will post my second fast bowler/Wicketkeeper/
And other opening batsman next.

Charles Thomas Biass "Charlie" Turner, a bowler ranking with the best ever produced by Australia, and by many who played against him considered without superior, died on New Year's Day in Sydney, aged 81. Records that stand to his name tell of his work with the ball, but it is remarkable that in the first set of photographs that appeared in Wisden he is holding a bat and wearing pads in company with his colleague J. J. Ferris, grasping a ball in his left hand. Chosen with G. A. Lohmann, of Surrey, Robert Peel, of Yorkshire, John Briggs, of Lancashire, and S. M. J. Woods, of Cambridge University and Somerset--himself an Australian--the two members of the team captained by P. S. McDonnell fully deserved the honour, for they practically dominated every match in which they played on this their first visit to England. In a season when bowlers accomplished wonderful things, almost beyond belief in these days, Turner took 314 wickets at 11.12 runs apiece.

CHARLIE GRIFFITH

The small island of Barbados has produced more quality fast bowlers than the entire nation of India: there was Wes Hall, with his long run-up, running in the sunshine, his crucifix dangling, to hurl deliveries at unbelievable speed; there was Joel Garner, tall and accurate, miserly in approach and lethal in effect and there was Malcolm Marshall, stocky and fast, who could run through any batting line-up and generally accepted as one of the greatest in history.

And then, there was Charlie Griffith: tall, muscular, massive and oozing power – the meanest of them all. A career of 94 wickets from 28 Tests at 28.54 is impressive enough, but it does not tell the complete story. It does not tell the way how Griffith, in unison with fellow Barbadian Hall, had intimidated batsmen all over the world with pace. Neither does it tell how lethal Griffith’s toe-crushing yorkers were, or how ruthless his bouncers were.

Anyway, just to expand on my pick now that I'm back on my PC rather than using my phone:

Angus Fraser 46 Tests, 177 wickets at 27.32. 15 five-wicket-hauls. "Fraser was a classically English seamer, landing ball after ball outside off stump and brilliantly exploiting even the slightest hint of uneven bounce - as his record in the Caribbean shows." Has a decent record against everyone, keeping his average under 30.07 against Australia and 29 wickets at 32.03 in Australia which I'd say was pretty damn good for an Englishman against Australia in the 1990s. Record in the West Indies is excellent, 54 wickets at 20.29, and in his final year of Test cricket in 1998 he took 58 wickets at 22.87; hip injuries and a difficult relationship with that idiot selector Illingworth didn't help his career, but his worth to England is evident in the fact that he took 78 scalps in England Test victories at only 16.52, and that out of English bowlers with fewer than 50 Tests he has the second highest number of five-wicket hauls and took more wickets in the 1990s than any other England player (13th overall).

Andrew Miller wrote that "yet, there was one [positive]. A lone pillar of rectitude in a ransacked temple. His shoulders were perpetually stooped but his spirit was never broken and, while the charlatans and showponies were being ruthlessly disembowelled by Allan Border's freakishly focused Australians, Angus Fraser just ran in and bowled, and ran in and bowled, and ran in and bowled. Fraser taught me there was another way. Line and length, rhythm and control. Parsimony over panache."

Need a keeper.

Sarfraz Ahmed

33 Tests, 1948 runs at 42.34 and strike rate of 74.04

86 catches and 17 stumpings

Rate him for his ability to counter attack, has that ability to be a real thorn in the side of the fielding side, as many keepers have. Also a good keeper and keeps well to Yasir Shah.

I thought his keeping was dreadful in the Australian series.

Yeah I think reviewing all the teams can be a bit time consuming. That way we can better dissect one team each.

If I read it right, I'm reviewing ak?

Am ok with Ted's suggestion to review one team.
Will give my comments on other teams too, but that would be purely for fun.
Besides, one of the main purposes of doing a draft is to troll others. :-)

GS, your turn.

Super, you're in the same time-zone, so maybe you're ready too?

And if Leo picks his two players within the next 2-3 hours, it would be back to you two.

And Louie_db9 is in SA timezone, so that's not to late for him either.

Tbh, this draft has moved at a pretty good pace. Much faster than previous drafts.

2017 TEST DRAFT (50 cap limit)

Postby Going South » Mon Jan 16, 2017 6:15 pm

Tamim Iqbal Khan
opening batsman

45 test matches. [good enough for this draft even if he play couple more within a month]

3430 runs. 206 highest score.
average 40.35. ok.
8 hundreds and 20 fifties. says he is a work horse who produce a solid foundation.

Tamim Iqbal was already one of Bangladesh's most assured batsmen at the time of his 21st birthday, and will be a vital component at the top of the order for years to come. His promise was apparent when, batting for the Under-19s against England at the end of 2005, he smashed 112 from just 71 balls to help Bangladesh cruise to victory. The left-hander is regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in Bangladesh cricket and is arguably the hardest hitter of the cricket ball in the country.

As he plays for blangladesh of all the teams in the world, he would have immense pressure to perform not to lose his wicket to avoid flood gates. Had he played in any other test country team, he would much shine better.

PS: unlike some others I try pick an international test team, instead of all white racist ashes team. :fucku: :slap: :nono: :nana:

Both good picks, Leo.

I especially like the fact that Neil Adcock got picked. I did consider him too.

Houghton was a pretty solid player. Unfortunately for him, Zimbabwe got Test status late in his playing career. Even so, he did quite well for them, getting a century on debut. I seem to remember his exploits in the World Cup 1983 too.

Back to you, Super and GS. The Tamim-Pujara duo. :-)
