Pakistan won thriller Rizwan player of series with 197 runs in 3 innings

Miller blitzkrieg in vain as Pakistan seal series in Lahore

Rizwan lays the platform

After a century and a 50 in the first two games, Mohammad Rizwan came within touching distance of registering a record-equalling fourth straight 50-plus score. Wasn't to be, eventually, but the opener gave his team the cushion of a solid start that kept Pakistan afloat even when the middle order briefly crumbled later. He took on the South African left-arm spinners, cutting and pulling his way to a 30-ball 42 and playing the aggressor in the half-century opening stand with Haider Ali.

Shamsi registers maiden four-fer

The wristspinner came to South Africa's rescue after Pakistan seemed to be running away, striking off his very first ball to take out Haider Ali. Rizwan fell next, sweeping a delivery that was too full to sweep. South Africa went up in appeal in an instant, but Rizwan challenged the on-field decision only to be given marching orders on replays that confirmed the dreaded three reds. Shamsi next bowled Hussain Talat with a straight ball that the batsmen played for spin and then went on to register his caeer-best haul when he had Asif Ali caught by Miller at long-on in search for quick runs.

Babar teases but Nawaz, Hasan finish the job

South African pacers gave him width and the Pakistan skipper cashed in, cutting and pulling for four boundaries in the space of three overs to register his best score of the series (44) after a 0 and 5. But it was Dwaine Pretorius who struck timely to bowl him through the gate and end his ominous knock, leaving Pakistan with another 53 to get in the last six.

Asif and Faheen Ashraf's wickets in quick succession after Babar's put Pakistan in a tricky spot, but Nawaz and Hasan Ali dug in to ensure against a collapse. Nawaz went after PRetorius to fetch two boundaries in the 18th over, leaving Pakistan with a rather manageable 16 off the final 12. Hasan Ali then swung the waist-high beamer from Pheklukwayo for six to all but seal the game for the hosts off the first ball of the penultimate over. To think of, this was South Africa's first no-ball of the series and it came at the most inappropriate time. Hasan then sealed the game and series with a four and a six, ensuring South Africa return empty-handed from their first tour of the country since 2007.

Brief scores: South Africa 164/8 in 20 overs (David Miller 85*; Zahid Mahmood 3-40, Mohammad Nawaz 2-13) lost to Pakistan 169/9 in 18.4 overs (Babar Azam 44, Mohammad Rizwan 42; Tabraiz Shamsi 4-25) by four wickets.
