Hyderabad v Mumbai, Match 56: Preview
Preview by Narbavi R

Sunrisers Hyderabad have a rare luxury going into their final league clash on Tuesday (November 3) against Mumbai Indians. Their destiny lies in their own hands - something most of the teams vying for a playoff berth over the last few days didn't have. Having a healthy NRR does have its own perks as SRH do not have to look at any kind of equation when they take the field or bat against MI. A win will seal their passage into the next round.

Kolkata Knight Riders will be watching and hoping they falter. A win for SRH will mean that they will miss out on that playoff berth. And the odds are stacked in favour of SRH at the moment even though they are coming up against the defending champions and the best side in this year's competition. MI have nine wins so far in the tournament and they have indeed been ruthless. But with the first qualifier scheduled to begin less than 48 hours post the completion of the contest on Tuesday, one wonders where MI's priorities lie. A win on Thursday will secure them a direct passage into the final. In that case, the chances of them being at full throttle against SRH appear to be quite minimal.

Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult have been menacing for MI. They share 43 wickets between them this season. Bumrah is leading the wicket-takers chart with Boult placed at 5. These two have also played all 13 games so far this season. Perhaps, there is no better opportunity to give them a break and that will in turn make life easier for the SRH unit with two of the key opposition bowlers not charging at them. In the batting department, Rohit Sharma continues to sit out and MI also rested Hardik Pandya in the previous game. It will be interesting to see if he comes back into the XI and someone else from that top 6 is also afforded a break.

Simply put, SRH cannot afford to squander this golden opportunity. Having already registered convincing wins in their last two games against DC and RCB, momentum is on their side as well. Wriddhiman Saha has seamlessly replaced Jonny Bairstow at the top of the order and the bowling unit has been very reliable like they are on most occasions. Jason Holder has contributed with both ball and bat ever since he made his way into the XI, strengthening the side further.

When: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians, Match 56, IPL 2020, 18:00 local time, 19:30 IST

Where: Sharjah Cricket Stadium

What to expect: Batting first definitely doesn't seem to be an option now at Sharjah. The pitches have slowed down a lot and the high scores witnessed at the start of the tournament haven't been replicated.

Team News

Sunrisers Hyderabad

After swatting RCB aside at the same venue on Saturday (October 31), SRH will have no reason to change their winning combination.

Probable XI: David Warner (c), Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Manish Pandey, Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, Jason Holder, Abhishek Sharma, Rashid Khan, Shahbaz Nadeem, Sandeep Sharma, T Natarajan

T Natarajan has nailed the art of bowling yorkers: Shaun Pollock
Mumbai Indians

Mitchell McClenaghan, one of MI's bowling mainstays in the past, might finally get a game if Boult is indeed rested. Bumrah might pave way for Dhawal Kulkarni. If MI decide to rest Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan might don the gloves with Chris Lynn replacing him in the XI.

Probable XI: Ishan Kishan, Quinton de Kock/Chris Lynn, Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Kieron Pollard (c), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Dhawal Kulkarni, Mitchell McClenaghan

Did you know?

Two uncapped players from the same team scoring over 400 runs in an IPL season has never happened before. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan are just 26 runs and 5 runs away respectively from achieving this landmark for MI.

I know that MI lost, but that non-dismissal of Pollard off Rashid's last ball is a classic example of how that walking pile of filth, Nita Ambani, has bribed all the umpires into her pocket. It was obviously plumb out on replay but Shamsuddin gave it not-out and later covered himself by giving Pollard out for a very obvious ball pitching outside leg stump, knowing that Pollard would appeal and he, Shamsuddin, would be overruled on replay.

This entire IPL tournament has become a farce controlled by the dirty, unscrupulous and utterly evil Ambanis.

Mumbai v Delhi, 1st Qualifier: Preview
Preview by Aayush Puthran

Despite all the chaos, drama and number crunching that ensued in the last couple of weeks, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals finished as the top teams on the points table, much like they were expected to at the half-way mark of the tournament. But given how the events unfolded, the vulnerabilities of even the best teams in the competition were exposed. But in Qualifier 1, the stakes are simple - you win and reserve a seat for the final. Even though there is a buffer of one loss, it's not a route any team would like to take.

Delhi Capitals faltered more than Mumbai Indians did on their way to the playoffs. A few players were injured, several went through a loss of form and some couldn't adapt well enough to the unpredictable nature of the conditions. After their third defeat, they had maintained that there was no need to panic and the focus had to be on the process. However, after a fourth defeat on the trot, they found the need to make changes to the plans and the approach. And even as the Capitals ended their victory drought, questions still linger over the potency of their batting line-up, and especially the inability of the openers to provide strong starts.

Mumbai Indians had it easier, being able to afford the luxury of resting their prime fast bowlers in the last league game. Even though it was an inconsequential match for them, it remains to be seen if their "worst performance of the season" will have its after-effects on the team in a game with a turnaround time of less than 48 hours. Despite their commanding show this season, Dubai has been the venue where MI have had the least success, winning only one out of their three games. The good news though, apart from the fact that both their losses were in the Super Overs, is that the one victory was a comprehensive one against Delhi. In fact Mumbai are the one of only two teams against whom Delhi hasn't won a game this season.

Delhi, after a good start, have struggled by the sluggish nature of the wicket and the unpredictability over dew coming into play has left them clueless with their plans. So much so that they are happier losing the toss. The inclusion of Daniel Sams, though, helps them cover that aspect with the ball and enables them to field possibly the best bowling attack in the competition. Much like Mumbai Indians, all their players have had an impact at some point or the other in the tournament, ensuring that the reliance isn't too heavy on certain players. What, however, remains to be seen is whether they can all turn up together on the day to ensure a complete performance.

When: Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals, Qualifier 1, Thursday, November 5, 2020, 19:30 IST

Where:Dubai International Stadium

What to expect: Mumbai Indians, even in their losses, have managed to post 170+ totals at the venue. The sluggish nature of the wicket could test the batsmen and the question mark over dew still remains. Even though there won't be a lot of wind, the temperature is expected to hover around the late 20s, which shouldn't be testing on the players.

Team News:

Mumbai Indians:Rohit Sharma didn't look in trouble after returning from a hamstring injury in the game against SRH. He should lead the team in the playoffs, which is also likely to see the return of Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya.

Likely XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile/James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Delhi Capitals: Even as Daniel Sams proved expensive in the death overs, Delhi Capitals reaped the rewards of his presence in the bowling line-up. DC are likely to go unchanged with Shimron Hetmyer likely to remain on the bench.

Likely XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Marcus Stoinis, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Daniel Sams, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje

Did you know?

- A win would give Delhi their maiden appearance in the final - the only side from the eight original franchises not to make it to the final yet.

- Rishabh Pant has hit only three sixes in the death (overs 16-20) this season while Kieron Pollard has hit 20 and Hardik Pandya has hit 14

What they said:

"Our bowling line up is also as good as anyone in the tournament and I think we are the team that no one really wants to play because they know we play well and we can do some damage. We have won tight games and that makes a huge difference." Shane Bond, Mumbai Indians' bowling coach.

"We are one of the best teams in the tournament and we need to stick to the basics and if we try and execute our plans, the results will come." Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Capitals captain

For any side to beat Mumbai, they'll have to play at their best - Murali Kartik
