Uhmmm... if NZ beats Bangladesh 3-0 - India has a real problem when the rankings year turns over on 1 May...

Right now - this is what is being scored for NZ - but I will strike through what gets chopped out when the ranking year rolls over...

Pakistan in New Zealand Test Series 2016/17 New Zealand 2-0 (2)
Bangladesh in New Zealand Test Series 2016/17 New Zealand 2-0 (2)
South Africa in New Zealand Test Series 2016/17 South Africa 1-0 (3)

West Indies in New Zealand Test Series 2017/18 New Zealand 2-0 (2)
England in New Zealand Test Series 2017/18 New Zealand 1-0 (2)
Pakistan v New Zealand Test Series (in United Arab Emirates) 2018/19 New Zealand 2-1 (3)
Sri Lanka in New Zealand Test Series 2018/19 New Zealand 1-0 (2)
Bangladesh in New Zealand Test Series 2018/19 -

NZ will have only 1 test loss, no series loss, in fact all won, and India is carrying that 4-1 thrashing by England, a 2-1 loss to SA, and a dropped test to Aus. NZ loses 6 wins, but drops 5 losses... But India will lose those 3 wins over NZ... and carrying so many more losses...

I expect the ICC will change the rankings rules in the next month or so. World cricket has permitted this ridiculous situation by not giving NZ more away tours, so if it happens, enjoy and appreciate your #1 team :-) It wont be for long though, we have SL and Aus away with Eng and Ind in the next year...

Raja has you observed this? It only occurred to me because someone in another forum was talking about NZ being #2 - and I was thinking - hold on - once we drop those SA and Ind series in the ranking year rollover, we havn't lost anything and Ind has losses to SA and Eng to carry....

India in West Indies Test Series 2016 India 2-0 (4)
New Zealand in India Test Series 2016/17 India 3-0 (3)
England in India Test Series 2016/17 India 4-0 (5)
Bangladesh in India Test Match 2016/17 India 1-0 (1)
Border-Gavaskar Trophy (Australia in India) 2016/17 India 2-1 (4)

India in Sri Lanka Test Series 2017 India 3-0 (3)
Sri Lanka in India Test Series 2017/18 India 1-0 (3)
Freedom Trophy (India in South Africa) 2017/18 South Africa 2-1 (3)
Afghanistan in India Test Match 2018 India 1-0 (1)
Pataudi Trophy (India in England) 2018 England 4-1 (5)
West Indies in India Test Series 2018/19 India 2-0 (2)
Border-Gavaskar Trophy (India in Australia) 2018/19 India 2-1

Just look at all the points India loses, 13 test wins gone for only 1 loss. That's a lot of points to drop...

7 losses for India, and 11 wins...

NZ will be 9 wins for 1 loss assuming we beat Bang 3-0....

This is hilarious...

Wow!
That doesn't look too good for BCCI, if BCCI's 5 series wins are phased out.
There'll still be a gap with #2 but if it is narrowed down enough for future series (of BCCI and NZ) to become much more meaningful, am all for it.

Will be watching this closely in May.

Dude NZ will be 9-1 with 2 draws assuming we Beat Bang 3-0 at home.

India will be 11-7 with 1 draw.

They'd have to change the rules because India will drop in a big tank.

Who knows how to do the math? Cos I would love to know how 11-1-7 beats 9-2-1.... when weighted out...

India won't be number 1 after the phase out is my point - NZ will be if beat Bangladesh 3-0...

Noone's thought about how much India scored 3 years ago (13-4-1), and nor how much 7 lost tests last year really hurts its score. Everyone thinks won in Aus, and #1...

NZ's score will jump like few teams ever have before... and India's is go to drop hard....

Okay - apparently what I strike through goes to half points. But NZ drops 2 series losses to Australia out.

I still see NZC going to #1 if beating the Banga's 3-0....

Okay - apparently what I strike through goes to half points. But NZ drops 2 series losses to Australia out I would think... It also gets rid of the drawn series with England.

I still see NZC going to #1 in May if beating the Banga's 3-0....

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/content/story/874363.html

So according to this, in May 2019 - results from May 2017 till then count in full, and what I crossed out above get half weighted from May 16... India still has points, but they're halved for that crossed out part.

NZ gets rid of its two series losses to Australia from 2015/16 altogether....

I still think this could be happening... If someone actually does that math or spreadsheets it, I would be very interested in the outcome.

It appears the 4 year cycle will be too for NZ to goto #1 just yet in May. But NZ can further close the gap on India with a 3-0 Banglawash.

KW loses 2 points for scoring 74 to drift further away from Kohli. But Wagner screams upto 5th, and Nicholls is also ranked 5th for batsmen.
