No, it was played on non bouncy, non seaming wickets. That was what you were talking about, weren't you?

Australian wickets have good bounce and seam movement.

What an absolute nonsense. Then what was all the talk before the ashes that England bowlers couldn't deal with it?
Furthermore, i remember an absolute road of a gabba pitch on which England made more than 500 in 2nd innings to draw the match. And adelaide is always a road on which they won. Those pitches were a lot different than the ones in England

I dont know what ashes you have watched But apparently not at all as you Don't know how the wickets were.

I agree with Aila. The australian wickets arent what they used to be. They are perfect for batting and in Tests, you often see teams score at around 3.75 to 4 runs per over. The ball comes onto the bat better than anywhere else in the world. Out of the six major Test venues, SCG on day 4 and 5 might be a bit hard to bat on, but others are pretty much ideal for batting.

I agree mostly with that. Adelaide surely has to be one of the best batting strips in the world. MCG not too bad either. 'Gabba can help the quicks early on. If they leave some grass on the SCG as they did last time Pakistan were here, it can good for seamers early (and spin later), IMO it's the best wicket in the country but still a good batting pitch. The WACA seems to be getting back its old pace and bounce lately, but it isn't what it used to be. It was another Adelaide for some years there. It highlights how good the Pom bowlers were in the Ashes, with a few exceptions, the bowlers won't get much help.

Little known because it wasn't - England were hosts (home team) for that series - as shown in the Future Tours Programme:

They play an away series v Pakistan in January in Dubai.

Easiest 10000 you will ever make. Even if the lose 1-0 they will go down to 120. Saffers have a Lankan series right before that, so will be past 120. Not really a surprise. South Africa are the team that has always performed consistently irrespective home or away games.

BTW, SA wont stay there long term. The way ICC rankings work, only Australia, England or India can top the table, these 3 play a lot more Tests than anyother country. These big 3 do slip away very quickly when they dont perform for the same reason.

Both Australia and India have their set of problems but long term it will be Australia or India playing hide and seek most of the time, considering England are so uncomfortable in non English conditions.

I think the No.1 ranking should only apply if you hold it for three years or more.

^^ Then it doesn't count.

So for example the way I see it, the last proper number one was (let me check) - Australia.

And that doesnt change unless some other team gets up there for three years.

Its like voley ball or tennis where you have to win by two clear points - or years in this case.

really all depends on what the various boards decide to do with the future tours programme

only Australia and England have a chance to get that mantle back any time soon, otherwise it could be South Africa for several years to come

India has a good chance to remain at 1, given their long home season, as long as Ashwin is fit and Rohit is dropped.

A good team win on tours too. If everybody is winning their own home games it's all even but BCCI win margin is better and that too over quality (?) teams hence ranks better.

India are a good team, but not a very good or great team. The rest are average or poor teams.
There are no very good or great teams in the current era.
That would be okay if series were close, however very few are lately.

I take it.

I take good team over average or poor teams any day as Nobody want to support certain PATHETIC teams Cough-Aussies-cough ;)

Hope the Australians see some resumption playing at home beating one of top teams. Even that is good for BCCI ranking. Ha !!!! All the best.

Its the truth, since they lost 4 striaght Test series to England, NZ, South Africa and Australia all away they've had a golden run the only 3 away tours were against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Windies and theyve had South Africa, NZ and England at home. Absolute golden run, hence they are number 1.

Next No-1 in ICC Test Ranking

Postby Going South » Fri Dec 16, 2016 2:07 am

You act as if BCCI should never play cricket with minnows and should only play top teams where as all other teams should be allowed to play minnows too.

It's not every day you play minnows and it's not every day you play at home only all the time. Check ICC calendar. Duh!

Every team play every other team at home once other time away alternatively. If you cannot grasp that simple fact with common sense nobody can help you.

Pakistan is the only basket case exception to this rule.

Verity is right, the calendar does seem to be set up to favour the BCCI at least in this medium term stretch of matches.
I still think player for player they're slightly better than the rest of the field, however if any other 'top' team had a similar run they'd be #1 too.

Bullshit.
Is BCCI playing home games all the time?????????????
WTF :wtf: are you talking.
It's coincidence that this back to back home games happen. Where were you when BCCI played back to back away games? How convenient! Don't be a hater !
For every home game BCCI playing now the last series with that team is played AWAY from India. Duh !!!!!!
These are earned in ROTATION.

You guys biker about future match losses that might come (?) when BCCI tour away from home thus too eager to spoil fun for current matches played at home ?

HATERS !!!

Oh shut the fk up already on BCCI arranging ICC calendar to suit BCCI. As i see things it's the other way around where BCCI getting raw end of ICC stick with BCCI's own ICC nominee himself personally screwing things for BCCI.

NO. no team is allowed to play back to back home games against any other particular team EVER.

The faster you get this into your dense mass upstairs called brains, the better.
Only exception to this rule is Pakistan though. Poor guys has no hopes of playing home games at home.

What a bunch of sad haters !!! Shoooo

The ranking points are calculated based on three years performance, where the current year's performance gets more weightage than the performances of previous years. It is the same for every team. BCCI happens to have the best score at present than others. They have 120 rating point/ match based on their performance over 35 test matches (some played at home, some played abroad). It is not that a single test series makes a huge difference in one's rating point. Australia come second who are way behind at 105 rating point (based on their performance over 40 test matches in three years). The gap is huge between number one and two, and one needs to win lots of matches to have such a commanding lead over the second placed team.

Victory over high ranking teams get more weigtage than win over low ranked team. One cannot become the top ranked team by only defeating lowly ranked teams. One needs to defeat high ranked teams to rise up in ranking.

Here is a link http://icc-live.s3.amazonaws.com/cms/media/about_docs/536b1a832b48f-Reliance%20ICC%20Test%20Team%20Rankings%20FAQs%202014.pdf to explain how rankings are calculated.

India deserved #1s IMO. Dominant at home unlike any other teams in the past 3 years and have won in the WI and SL outside.

Aus got swept in SL
Eng tied at home 2-2 by Pak and got swept by India and tied with BD away
SA lost 3-0 to India away and beaten by England at home. They are on their way up though - although they haven't done much in Asia over the past 3 years.
Pak was doing well till they were exposed in NZ and Aus.

Not sure who else deserves to be #1. Sure, India is not a patch on the Aussie/WI of the past. However, they are as good as the Ind, SA and Eng teams that have been #1 before.

Also, this Indian team wants to win - and not just draw games - as illustrated by their unbeaten streak since the SL series 2 years ago.

Australia will be no1 after they beat India 4-0.

I am an eternal optimist but i have seen stranger things in Sport.
