Hey - take it easy on Ravindra. It is one thing he the future hope of all Kiwi cricket fans - don't add 1.5 billion people's worth of pressure on the kid.
Elite honesty:
At the toss Faf said to Finch that you lads can bat - Finch replied "no, no we can't-we really can't".

Finch then saw Travis Head and Darcy Short start put on sun screen and said "Getting a bit optimistic aren't you?"

:lmao:

If he does well, he'll always be tagged as Indian-origin.
Like Rohan Kanhai, Alvin Kallicharran, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Chanderpaul and some others.

If he doesn't do quite as well, he'll be quietly forgotten.
Like a Mahendra Nagamattoo. :-)

Just realised that Rachin's dad is Ravi Krishnamurthy - and he's originally from Bangalore!
Extra love to Rachin from now on.

In all seriousness, only MD Crowe and KW shared this kid's junior expectations.

NZ is not like India or even Aus. NZ does not typically identify talent early - it just retrospectively makes sense.

This kid is a HUGE deal and has been for years in NZ.

To prove my point- when Dayle Hadlee was picked- his own father said - 'they've picked the wrong Hadlee'.

18 year Rachin Ravindra has no connection with westindies, but I would like to remember him from true kiwi player of Indian origin:

Ramesh Patel (hockey), Depak Patel,Ish Sodhi,Jeetan Patel (spinner)
Ronnie Hira,(15-t20i for NZ),Tarun Nethula (Andhra born, played 5 odi for NZ), jeet Raval(gujrat born, known as Rahul D of Auckland)
Hundred at Galle & 51*at kendy -- Foakes well played
Eng will go 4th day with 324/9

Dipak Patel is from Kenya, migrated to England then NZ.

You're clutching.

Never even heard of Tarun Nethula.
I do not follow ODIs (or T20Is) with the same intensity as Tests, so often miss out on players who have played only this format.

Tarun Nethula told Kohli he liked how KW'Taylor and Latham batted- so Kohli told him to leave India and move to NZ. So he did :-)

Of course.
These Hindu names like Tarun are annoying.
Had he been called Haroon Najibullah I'd have definitely noticed.

Rachin has now played 2 first class games, and averages over 57 :D

Not bad for playing in the UAE against Pakistan A.

If he has a big first season in domestic - I expect him to be looked at for selection in the National side in just over 1 year from now. I doubt he will be expected to debut in Australia.

Do you know popat (bP)? He was second Badrinath of newzeland cricket.Glen Turner's indian wife Mrs Kaur was Mayer in NZ so most people expect
Popat (bp)( 3 or 4 season his batting average 60 in domestic nz cricket )
To gets NZ test cap but he not even gets call in Warm up game.I forget his first name NOW.

But yes back to the point plenty Pakistani in NZ domestic cricket
Some other time, I do not wants to miss "Jahanara Alam (BD) on big screen " as game on progress at Guyana vs WI Women.

Who is Popat? Do you mean Bharat Popli? He is struggling to stay in the domestic top team at the moment. He grew up in the Mount nearby to Kane Williamson and Trent Boult, hence he plays for ND, which is a long way from Otago and Dame Sukhi and Glenn Turner. Khalid Ibadulla is the former Pakistan test player who moved to NZ and for a time coached Glenn Turner. He also coached BMac (and his father before him too).

And who are these plenty of Pakistani in NZ domestic cricket? Are you referring to club level? If you mean list A and FC level - you're mistaken. It has been 10 years since Azhar Abbas played in NZ at FC level. Before him it was Khalid Ibadulla in the 1960's!

Bar none, the biggest migrant influence on NZ cricket at the top levels is currently South African whites.

At club level - yes - a lot of sub-continentals play and are involved.

But Rachin Ravindra is the most exciting talented prospect in NZ that has come through the NZ system (that his father no helped no end with) since Kane Williamson.

And fwiw - the coach who made Jeet Raval the cricketer he is is Kit Perera - who is of Sri Lankan descent and famous for cooking curries. He used to threaten Jeet (a vegetarian) with a hot meat curry if he didn't score runs.

Jeet Raval and parthiv played for Guja rat under 14 in Ahmedabad so parthiv
Still call him before his each test innings in NZ or where about.

Khalid Ibadullah also coach many popular Pakistani test player.

Khalid himself debut in test for pakistan with 166 runs innings.

Yes could be possible Bharat Popli struggle now but he was very hot during peak of his career

I like stories like this :-)

From debut hero to test player zero in no time flat. But he is a NZ cricketing treasure who coached Turner, Rutherford, Cairns and McCullum.

givemeahug786 wrote:Yes could be possible Bharat Popli struggle now but he was very hot during peak of his career

He was hot a couple of seasons ago - but has gone off the boil totally for now. I hope he gets better because NZC has a massive batting shortage.

This particular A series may deserve its own series thread. Just look at the squads:

Regular test batsman Ajinkya Rahane will captain India A in the first match, and Karun Nair, a triple century-maker in just his third test in 2016, will lead in the second and third games of the series.

Other prominent names in the squad to be coached by one of cricket's all-time greats Rahul Dravid, are top class batsmen Rohit Sharma - scorer of a staggering three ODI double centuries - Murali Vijay and 19-year-old Prithvi Shaw, who led India to the under 19 world title in Mount Maunganui early this year, and who made a century on his Test debut against the West Indies last month.

New Zealand A Squad
George Worker (Central Stags)
Will Young (Central Stags)
Tim Seifert (Northern Districts)
Glenn Phillips (Auckland Aces)
Rachin Ravindra (Wellington Firebirds)
Dane Cleaver (Central Stags, game one only)
Cam Fletcher (Canterbury, games two and three only)
Doug Bracewell (Central Stags)
Kyle Jamieson (Canterbury)
Lockie Ferguson (Auckland Aces, games two and three only)
Seth Rance (Central Stags)
Blair Tickner (Central Stags)
Scott Kuggeleijn (Northern Districts, game one only)
Logan van Beek (Wellington Firebirds)
Theo van Woerkom (Canterbury)

I know nothing of Theo. Basically with Astle and Santner injured, Sodhi, Sommerville and Patel in the UAE - NZC has run out of spinners not retired from internationals ;-).

Very little batting in the NZA team - but good chances for Young and Ravindra to progress their careers. There are a lot of seam bowlers in this squad.
