Yes, I looked the guy up. Impressive with bat and ball. Batting style almost like a left handed Sandip Patil.

If he bowls well, RCB might have made a good call.

For me AB, Southee, Kaasen & CdG should be picked as RCBs 4 overseas players for this game. I would like the team to consider Klaasen as their first choice wicket-keeper and give him an early chance to get used to the conditions. He can be destructive with the bat if he settles down.

It is a trade-off between CdG and NCN. NCN is the better bowler but CdG can sometimes bowl restrictively; of course, he can go big with the bat.

IMO, they should also pick Dube early and give him a chance with the bat and ball.

Umesh Yadav should bowl 3 overs in the Powerplay with attacking fields and finish before the 15th over.

CdG is limited against wrist spin, but CSk will play finger spinners as their best team all round.

CdG is very limited against what he is playing against. But very very good against what he is good against.

When he's good - he's excellent - when he's bad - he's horrid. Nothing much in-between.

Agreed. Do you think James Neesham, who lost out altogether in the auctions, would have been a better option?

Agreed. Do you think James Neesham, who lost out altogether in the auctions, would have been a better option?

Neesh's definitely in better form than Colin with the bat, and offers more pace with the ball. But he's still not a cheap bowling option. He really has to be thought of as a batsman and 6th bowler at best. Same as CdG. He might be worth picking up for peanuts as an injury replacement at 75l.

Colin bowls channel at 120 km/h - great for test bowling, useless for limited overs unless there is swing or nibble on the pitch. Then he looks like Vernon Philander.

Neesh has incredible bat strength for 6 hitting on the on side. Stronger than James Franklin. But he has improved his off side hitting too and flat bats over long off now as well. But he's not in the NZ T20i team as yet.

I would actually look at this guy if you want a bowling allrounder who can tonk the ball for 6 late in the innings:

http://www.espncricinfo.com/newzealand/ ... 39548.html

149 km/h and more batting talent than those numbers suggest as he started as a tailender but he's moving up the order over time. Look at the 5 t20i 6's hit in just 24 career balls.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/newzealand/ ... 81743.html

This is the guy ahead of Neesh and CdG in the NZ T20i team. I really havn't seen enough of him to make comment as to his batting abilities. Bowling - he has all the slower balls and what not. 132 km/h stock ball.

But Scott Kuggeliejn is who I'd buy for a Ben Cutting type role player. He missed last year's auction, and skipped this year's I think... he was getting bad publicity.

QdK played for RCB last year and was rubbish.
This year he's in great form, as he'll be playing for Mumbai Indians.

That's been RCB's story from the very beginning.

Daanav is a massive RCB supporter, and is very keen to see MI at the bottom.
I'm also very keen to see MI at the bottom - and will be happy to see RCB do well (though I don't expect it to).

My tactics are going to be the usual tactics I use - jinx teams.

So I will be playing up MI in every match - and playing down RCB's chances.

Daanav ji, please note that this will include rubbishing RCB players - please don't mind.
It'll all for a grander purpose. :-)

Chennai vs Bangalore, 1st Match -
Preview

Chennai Super Kings -Inaugular game for them

If odds are derived from both reflection and reflex, then then there's no room to question Chennai Super Kings' status: they start another IPL season with the bull's eye on their back and a chasing pack of seven eager to topple them. There's a reason why only one team has ever successfully defended its IPL title. The team convenes after the international calendar in vastly different circumstances, sometimes with very different personnel, and can find it has quite lost the edge that carried it past 50-50 situations just 12 months ago.

The biggest factor CSK have in their favour is their captain. MS Dhoni is at ease in an environment that almost seems purpose-built for him. He has, by his side, a coach who shares his views on the virtues of consistency and a management structure that does not question his cricketing decisions.

For a decade now, the bar at Chepauk has been set dauntingly high and the measure of CSK's success has been their ability to meet it, then outjump it. Those wearing yellow, on the field, in the stands and in front of television sets, will have it no other way this year.

Probable XI: Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (C&WK), Kedar Jadhav, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Karn Sharma, Shardul Thakur

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Eleven seasons have gone by, with Kohli leading the franchise in the last six, but the Royal Challengers Bangalore have no title to account for despite making it to three semifinals and as many finals, with a side that on paper always seemed to have all bases covered, and boasting of superstars in their ranks.

With a new season around the corner, however, there's the very legitimate threat of history repeating itself all over again for RCB. The infusion of a fresh culture within the RCB set-up seems at the top of the priority list this year to ensure a shared purpose of what they want to achieve as a team. While so much significance is lent to developing a culture, one wonders if that could be a distraction from the actual task at hand - of winning their maiden title.

RCB replaced Daniel Vettori with Gary Kirsten as coach cum mentor, with Ashish Nehra assisting him in the bowling department in their bid for a title, but largely, their problems from the past seem to still persist to a large extent. While that will be the same this year, can the fortune of their team be different? Any at all?

There were 3 IPL threads in all.
One is the predictions thread.

I have merged the other two, and called it the IPL 2019 - Discussion Thread in the Live Cricket Forum.
Made it a sticky.

I believe RCB players have been poisoned. The result will be declared null and void.

Going South, if you start something funny I swear that I will fly to Switzerland and become a Trappist Monk.
