Australia, even without Smith & Warner, should win this comfortably.
All formats.

We're a terrible side at the moment.

Oh, wait! This is not being played in Australia?

Then I totally change my position on this.

Outside Australia, Aussies are an embarrassment. :-)

Pakistan 247/6 after first day of tour match. They're not playing a front line spinner for this game in a deliberate attempt to not provide CA XI any practice.

5 wickets for Lyon, not much from anyone else.

Shame Australia played a two spinners instead of giving these Pakistan hopefuls more practice against seam for their potential intl futures. :lmao:

Even after I Ahmed warmed Aus upto fast bowling. Very sad.

I hope no Pakistani bowler bowls a bouncer. Could be the biggest sook since Larwood played a test.

Predicting a thrashing for the Aussies.
Could be two innings defeats - in any case, one is assured.
Pakistan is on a bit of a low after the recent Asia Cup.
This is exactly how Pakistan works - when you mock them after a poor performance, they rise and surprise you.

The only thing I'm worried about is the team unity right now.
Am hearing of some rumblings.
The usual Lahore-Karachi issues. :-)

the warm up match is the same rope-a-dope they pull every time
obvious that only spinners will have any significant success on these pitches

the Aussie batsmen are getting practice for the first 5 overs of the innings that's about it.

They'd be better of hiring a venue and playing an internal practice match and have Nathan Lyon bowl to all their main batsmen.

Loose halo checking out new registration.
Looking forward to 4K anyone else have it installed yet?

To stay on theme Pakistan will be tough at home but Aussie bowlers will be worth watching.

no 4K, my eyes are f**ked I wouldn't be able to tell the difference from 1080p

which line up Langer picks tomorrow will be interesting

we may go in with only 2 batsman averaging over 40 in first class cricket, and only 1 of those averaging over 40 in Tests
if Renshaw plays then that's 3 of the top 6 with a 40+ FC average.

I think we should pick 3 spinners. Lyon and Holland have to play, but I think Agar is needed here too, especially with his batting ability in the lower order.

Renshaw is under a fitness cloud so Labuschagne is cover

Likely line up..

Finch
Khawaja
Renshaw/Labuschagne
S. Marsh
Head
M. Marsh
Paine
Agar
Starc
Lyon
Holland

team has been named

Finch
Khawaja
Labuschagne
S. Marsh
Head
M. Marsh
Paine
Siddle
Starc
Lyon
Holland

obviously Renshaw didn't come up fit and Langer has gone for the 'safe' option of Peter Siddle who I think is surplus to needs in these UAE conditions but given Starc's history of injury would be the only reason he was picked. In which case it might have made more sense to pick Siddle and left Starc out! Head will probably need to bowl some overs now.

actually I think a lot will depend on how our bowlers go.

We know our batting is shit, but our bowling is variable in these conditions. If they manage to keep the runs down then hopefully the batsmen won't need to extend themselves too much.

The problem with Australia is they were too dependent on Smith and Warner in batting department.

average batsmen can fluke scoring runs from time to time...tailenders do it

you can't fluke 20 wickets though. this series depends so much on how effective our bowlers are.

Didn't even realise this game had started.

255/3.
Happy, but we are famous for collapsing, so I won't be surprised if we get all out for 320.

And boy, did I get the surprise of my life to see Siddle in the side?
I thought he had retired?
What prompted him to be picked? Good domestic season?

And how do you pronounce Labuschagne?
Never heard of this guy.

Siddle has been playing county cricket and been in good form there.
Definitely not retired...his vegan diet keeps him going and he hasn't aged a bit.

Good to know.
Haven't been following much (non-Indian) cricket news other than international stuff.
Didn't even know he was playing county cricket.
Good for him - happy to see him come back, and seemingly, do well.
Checked his profile - he last played a Test in November 2016.

Has Hazlewood been rested for this tour?

Where are Cummins and Hazlewood?
Surely this cannot be a full-strength Aussie bowling attack?
Or were they deliberately kept out, given these are UAE conditions?

In any case, Australia's weak suit is its batting.
If they've allowed Pakistan to get to 482, I think there can be only one result from here on.
And it doesn't even rain in the UAE.

Didn't realise this is Aaron Finch's test debut.
All the best to him.
He's got off the mark - so that's already a good start.
And since he hasn't got a pair in his debut Test, he's already a better Test opener than Graham Gooch.

Resting for the November India tour more likely.
They are both playing in the JLT Cup for NSW but not every game but appear fit to me.

they were both on the injury list when the squad was picked

clearly they're not going to rush them back via a grueling UAE series

not sure either would've made much difference here. Siddle has done well. Starc has been rusty and they probably would've picked Cummins with Starc if he was available earlier.

Name a player who has the same batting and bowling average?

Bilal Asif.

Batting and bowling average of 6.00 right now.

But will change when he bowls in the Aussie second innings.

Didn't watch the match - just checking the scorecard now.

What a collapse!

I thought Khawaja was supposed to be suspect against spin - he's done ok here.

Was the wicket helpful for Bilal or was it just inept Aussie batting?

Pakistan already have enough of a lead - 325 is way beyond the capability of this Aussie side in the 4th innings.
