NSW bowlers in Sheffield Shield / Pura Cup

Postby raja » Sun Apr 01, 2018 3:05 pm

Was looking for something today and came across this.
Quite interesting.

Geoff Lawson, Stuart MacGill and Greg Mathews - all seem to have picked up loads of wickets for NSW.

Now I need to run this for other state sides too. :-)

Do you remember Mike Whitney raja? Didn’t he scoop up a bunch of Indian wickets on a tour once?

He played most of his Test cricket during my blackout period (1988-1998), so I never got to watch him as such.
I remember him being part of that terrible Aussie squad for Ashes 1981.

He did run through BCCI once - not on tour, but at Perth.
I heard about it only much later (like I said, it was my blackout period) - but I immediately warmed to him.

'81 wasn't a terrible squad

Whitney was playing county and picked as a late injury replacement

If Greg Chappell had played/captained and Bruce Laird had been selected as an opener they probably would've won.

Without Greg Chappell, and with due respect to Border, the battling always looked suspect (although Greg's own record in Ashes Tests in England isn't great). Although one could say it was more an Australia vs Botham series, than Australia vs England. :-)

All Ashes series after 1975 (in England) and before 1989 (in England) are highly forgettable. :-)
I try not to remember them.

The Centenary Test at the MCG is memorable, of course. :-)

Seriously, I can't remember that period at all.
That it also happened to be a period when England chalked up some Ashes wins is entirely coincidental.

I remember Mike Whitney. He destroyed Indian team in the tour game in 91-92 and played in the Test series.

Mike Whitney later on became co.host of the famous reality show Who Dares Wins along with Tania Zaetta.

I watched Who Dares Wins for Zaetta.
