Greatest batsman to represent England. I would've said greatest English batsman, but you know, facts wouldn't be quite accurate.
Also, maybe the greatest tall batsman to play the game? How many great players over 185cm have there been?

Thanks for annoying us during the Ashes KP and thanks for entertaining us as a franchise player. Hopefully more entertaining commentary to come.

happiness always seems to have an inverse relationship with talent. Hopefully he’s found a bit more peace as he’s gotten older. Capable of being a real prick sometimes I think - born out of being uncomfortable in his own skin - but what he did on the field was among the best in an England shirt over the last fifty years. Our best bat since gooch and gower id say.

Wonder what he’d do now? His commentary is pretty uninspiring but I applaud his conservation work

No batsman I feared more on a cricket field - maybe because I only fear good English batsmen. Sorry, good batsmen playing for England. :-)

He was a fantastic batsman - capable of taking any attack by the scruff of the neck. He was supposed to struggle against left-arm spin but I think that was more a ploy by the opposition to make him have doubts, and thereby create a self-fulfilling prophecy. :-)

In his fights with the ECB, Strauss and co, I supported him - anything that helps destabilise English cricket can only be good news. :-)
At the same time, I hoped he'd be dropped - I was terrified of him in the England side.

Now, when I think of it, it seems selfish and sad - he was a rare talent, and to be denied purely due to team politics is sad.

All the best, KP.

I think, much like Ganguly, I'll be liking you more post-retirement. :-)

I personally still believe that no one player is bigger than the team. We’re his antics affecting the rest of the team? I suppose no one knows who wasn’t inside the dressing room at the time.

The parallels between KP and Boycott are interesting no end. Perhaps it’s hypocrisy that I judge Boycott more favourable than I judge KP when they each had a fair share of responsibility for their own absences from the team.

KP was amazing, self assured but always at loggerheads with team mates.

That's been part of his career.

To be fair it’s reasonable to consider that he wouldn’t have been such a player without the leap-without-looking style that also got him in trouble.

Cook, though I like him and he is a tremendous batsman, was a dull and vanilla captain and is a vanilla batsman because he by contrast looks so thoroughly and even then rarely leaps.

Sometimes you need a mixture of fast and slow burners to make a successful team, even if your fast burns flash out quicker

Two batsmen of the last 25 years that I rate the most:
Lara and KP.
Ponting, probably next.

Of these 3, I think KP was the most dangerous, because he was the most brutal.
With Lara, you always felt you had a chance, however gloriously he batted.
With Ponting, you felt you had less of a chance - but he was a bit more restrained, giving bowlers a little more respect.
With KP, you felt bowlers had no answer to his brilliance. He could hit the ball to any corner of the ground anytime he felt like it.

In fact, I'd say he was the best since Viv.
Same attitude when he walked onto the ground.

Can we have a tall great batsman XI?

must be over 185cm to qualify

no Gary Sobers was only 1.8m.. just average height IMO

I did coo when I saw his passion after running out Kallis while captain. I thought: "there's a passion and energy for the job"

Alas...
