IPL 2018 Auction

Postby Paddles » Sat Jan 27, 2018 2:36 am

Will someone put up some links to the best IPL Auction update sites?

Cricinfo looks fairly ordinary at the moment.

Every year this auction throws up topics to debate, so use this thread if an issue does not require a specific own thread.

Things for me, I want to see Munro, Anderson, Santner and Sodhi secure deals. Anderson is no guaranteed purchase, he is at max reserve, hasn't played in a while and was out of form when he was. Pluis he has been injury prone for a while now. Munro I believe will sell, is more of a case how much, will he earn the big bucks.

Santner and Sodhi are no guarantees to be bought with so Indian and foreign spinners in the auction as well. But surely they have edged ahead of a lot of their international rivals like Zampa by now.

I would love to see a few surprising selections of Kiwi players that are not expected to sell.

As an IPL owner, I will anyday choose Santner / Sodhi over Zampa. Never been convinced about Zampa. He is just like Mcgill, overhyped.

11:18 Sunrisers buy Williamson for Rs. 3 crore: New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is up next with a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore.

His former franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad make the opening bid but no one else is interested before RCB come into the picture a bit later.

Williamson attracting some interest but Sunrisers stay ahead as they buy the player at Rs. 3 crore

11:16 CSK use RTM to retain Bravo for Rs. 6.4 crore: Next up is the Champion player Dwayne Bravo with a base price of Rs. 2 crore.

Punjab continue their smashing start with the opening bad before Mumbai Indians up the bid as the price goes past the Rs. 5 crore mark.

Punjab finally bag Bravo for Rs. 6.4 crore but CSK steal the show as they use the RTM to retain the West Indian all-rounder.

11:10 Delhi Daredevils buy Maxwell for Rs. 9 crore: Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is the next player coming up for sale with a base price of Rs. 2 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad make the opening bid before Rajasthan come into the fray to double the price to Rs. 4 crore.

Sunrisers not willing to back down as they up the price to Rs. 6 crore.

Royal Challengers Bangalore make their presence felt with their first bid at Rs. 6.2 crore and Delhi Daredevils also enter the bidding war to take the price to Rs. 7 crore.

RCB seems to pulled out of the race as Sunrisers bounce back with a 7.2 crore bid but Delhi are not holding back either as the bids continue to flow, to take the price to Rs. 8 crore.

A strong bidding war this as Maxwell's price rises to the Rs. 9 crore mark, which turns out to be the winning bid for Delhi Daredevils.

0:40 Mitchell Starc sold to KKR for Rs. 9.4 crore!: Australia left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc up next with a base price of Rs. 2 crore.

Kings XI Punjab again making the opening bid before KKR come into the fray.

The two franchises battle hard to take the price past the Rs. 6 crore mark in no time.

The bids are flying as quick as Starc's bouncers with the price zooming past the Rs. 9 crore mark in a matter of a few seconds.

KKR finally bag the player at Rs. 9.4 crore!

10:32 LIVE IPL Auction: Ben Stokes sold to Rajasthan for a massive Rs. 12.5 crore!: Troubled England all-rounder Ben Stokes is up for sale next at the base price of Rs. 2 crore.

He was sold for a record Rs. 14.5 crore last year to Rising Pune Supergiants.

Chennai Super Kings make the opening bid and not surprising Kings XI Punjab are in the thick of action yet again, doubling his price to Rs. 4 crore in no time.

Stokes looks to be inching towards another record price this year too as the price zooms to Rs. 6 crore soon.

Kolkata Knight Riders enter the fray at Rs. 6.8 crore before the price goes past the Rs. 9 crore mark and in a few minutes past the Rs. 10 crore mark.

Punjab in control at Rs. 12 crore before KKR pull out of the race.

Rajasthan Royals make a late entry with Rs. 12.5 crore bid and this time Punjab have withdrawn from the race

A team which had that player in the last IPL can choose to retain him at the auctioned price.
Limited no of RTMs though per team.
So CSK chose to retain Bravo at the price Punjab won him for.

Fully expected BMac to be bought by RCB.
They have this knack of picking up has-beens, totally washed-out once-quality players.
They never get them in their prime - always get them when nobody else wants them.

Albie, Muralitharan, Vettori...now BMac.

Might have had a big hand in getting them BMac.

Just the type of washed-out player they'd pick up.

Why? He's excellent. Very consistent, ups the pace of scoring comfortably, can keep wickets.

Was very good in 2016, but was injured all of last season.
RCB hurt badly without him at the top.
One of the big reasons they ended at the bottom last year.

Yes, but IPL at home and Test cricket in South Africa - poles apart. :-)

CDG goes to RCB. One of my fav cricketers right now, so on one level I'm happy.
But RCB is a cursed franchise - so I'm cautious.

Their picking Chris Woakes has pissed me off. Far better players in this format.

Colin Munro goes for just 190L?
Delhi picks him up.

Is he not available for the entire tournament? Hard to believe no one else was interested.

Gayle, Root, Guptill and M Vijay went unsold !

I am interested to see how under 19 players fare at the auction later. I am especially interested to see if team owners have taken notice of the pacers Mavi and Nagarkoti in the u-19 world cup. They bowl faster than the pacers currently in the senior team.

Raja, I think Woakes isn't a dumb purchase.

I'm not surprised to see Gayle folded in. But there's a few has beens and questionable high purchases.

I'm please for KW. Good price and Moody is a smart operator. I would be hard pressed to believe Glen Maxwell is worth the price of 3 KW's. And I like Maxwell. But you are unable to build a team around him. He is icing. Not cake.

Munro went cheap????

Guppie didn't deserve much attention, he has to get runs in India if he wants IPL rupees. Its that simple.

I'll post my thoughts proper and debate with yourselves, raja and bolero, once a news site has tabled the players and prices. its all scattered information at the moment.

Feel for Joe Root. First time overlooked in IPL is embarrassing. Especially when publicly announcing missing England T20 series 'cos thinking it was sure thing.

Am not sold yet on Woakes - paying 7.2cr for him is huge.

Munro went dirt cheap - 1.90cr.

Ridiculously cheap. Am wondering why. Nobody seemed interested in him. Is he not available for the entire tourney, or sth like that?

IPL franchises value IPL runs more than anything else. I agree with this.

He doesn't have those yet. So while he's worth a punt, Pollard is valued as being reliable. I understand and respeect this argument even if not always agreeing with the specific player.

That said, Lynn and Maxwell aint done much for their high price tags of late. And Munro has useful bowling. I would buy Munners cheap for sure myself. But I wouldn't pay Warner level dollars for him. But I think he went really cheap. I am surprised he didn't get more bids. He could very well be the star of the next IPL.

I'm upset that KW is still with SRH though, I think Moody is smart enough. But he has Warner and won't build a team around KW. He will possibly sit on the bench too often as Moody uses import bowlers. I don't like this. He is too good of a player in a 8 team tournament even if Moody is doing the right thing for SRH. I was hoping a weaker team would buy KW and build around him. I would have KW over Smith in IPL based on last 2 seasons of IPL. Easily. Smith is sloooooooooooooooow.

Looking forward to the Kiwi bowlers especially the spin twins get auctioned off.

Yes, Woakes' price is high, but his batting form is red hot recently. It influences bids. He is averaging well over 100 in Australia in the current odi tour and hitting plenty of 6's.

Glad CDG got picked up - hopefully he can work on his batting vs leg spin in this IPL. Because his inability to pick the wrongun is interfering with my enjoyment of watching him play.

I guess I am disapointed that the number 1 t20 nation in the world at the time of writing, still gets lower and less bifs than the 7th ranked nation in Australia. But that's just the way it is.

So I move away from the IPL auction for a bit - and guess what?
RCB manage to screw up by picking up MOEEN ALI.
Come on!
Moeen?

Ok, he's not THAT expensive but they'll be tempted to play him - at the cost of a better overseas player.

They've picked up Quinton de Kock too - not bad.

Yes, Rashid Khan is top class.
As is Mustafizur.
Mumbai are lucky to get him - SRH did not want him.
Mumbai is alway clinical.
Malinga served them very well for all these years.
Now he's faded - they've got Mustafizur.

Malinga is older, fatter, slower and injury prone now.

Bumrah, Mustafizur and Starc are much better players.

Both are Indians, meeting the 7min quota, both bat well, one top order, one middle order and possibly weaken an opposing team that does not grab Butler or de Kock.

I get your point - but still not the dumbest buy.

Law 31.6 - benefit of the doubt for an dismissal appeal goes to the batsman
A third umpire call for a run out or stumping is a referral, not a review.

i agree if they are cheap but they are not. that money can be spent elsewhere where they need most.

Shame about root but I guess his lack of availability makes him a risky buy maybe?

What other English players were bought at the IPL cattle market?
