After BCCI, Bangladesh cricket board refuses to play Asia Emerging Nations Cup in Pakistan

Postby bolero » Thu Dec 28, 2017 4:18 am

New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) efforts to bring international level cricket back in the country on a regular basis suffered a huge blow after Bangladesh Cricket Board refused to play in the upcoming Asian Emerging Cup.

Notably, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), had also objected to Pakistan being awarded the hosting of the tournament, given the political tension between the two nations.

“On 29th October, it was decided that Pakistan will host the tournament in the ACC meeting. But none of the members from Bangladesh and India were present,” said a member from the PCB as quoted by bd crictime.

“We want to host the tournament at any cost. We will try our best to host the Asian Emerging Nations Cup,” the member added.

The six-nation tournament, which is expected to held in April next year, however, has been put on hold after the BCCI objected to giving hosting rights to Pakistan.

The sources, as per reported in the Times of India, had suggested that the Indian board is not happy with the decision and has communicated the same at the recently-held ACC meeting in Dubai.

The major reason, apart from the political tensions between the two countries, is said to be the fact that the Indian board was not consulted before naming Pakistan as the host of Emerging Nations Cup.

Meanwhile, international cricket has also been away from Pakistan until International Cricket Council (ICC) backed World XI toured Pakistan for three-match T20I series in September this year, ending the drought since the attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in 2008. Cricketers from across the globe agreed to visit Pakistan after the government promised presidential-level security for the week-long tour by the World XI side, which was a 15-man squad comprising players from all top Test-playing countries.

Pakistan should realise that it should stop promoting terror. Its in its own interest. Otherwise the boycott will continue.

Pakistan need to prove their country is safe enough. Otherwise it is impossible to play there for any country.

This also has to do with policy. Pakistan's intelligence agencies and army has been involved in giving covert and overt support to terrorists, recently trying to assassinate Bangladesh PM. Indian intelligence got wind of it and alerted Bangladesh regime. The country that housed Bin Laden in a safe house cocking a snook at the world can never be trusted. Unless there is a demonstrable complete change of heart, Pakistan will face such isolation.

^^ Problem is Pakistan doesn't seem interested to improve the situation. Like their political situation is poor. Some of the provinces are not safe enough for residence.

They are only depending on diplomatic negotiation rather improving the situation. It will not be possible for them to host any country without improvement of political situation.

BTW, I was not aware of below news.

Assassination Attempt On Sheikh Hasina, Reportedly Masterminded By ISI, Foiled With Help From India

Top counter terror officers of Bangladesh managed to foil an assassination attempt on their Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the nick of time last month with the help of her loyalists bodyguard, according to a CNN-News18 report by Subir Bhaumik and Manoj Gupta.

Six to seven personnel from Hasina’s security detail were supposed to gun her down on the evening of 24 August as soon as she came out of her meeting for an evening walk. The attack was being coordinated with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants “who were supposed to trigger a series of blasts around Hasina’s office to divert the attention of the other security guards, and to provide an escape route to the assassins.”

However, the sinister plan was nipped in the bud thanks to efforts of a joint team of Indian and Bangladeshi intelligence officers. They intercepted the communication between JMB militants and the bodyguards of Hasina who were entrusted with the job of killing her. This was designed exactly how Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination was carried out by her own bodyguards.

The CNN-News18 reports quotes top Bangladeshi intelligence officials who suspect Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to be the main mastermind of the attack. “It all began when ISI’s Brigadier Ashfaq, in-charge of eastern operations, met a top opposition leader from Bangladesh in London two months ago,” the report quotes one of the officials in Dhaka as saying. Two major general-level officers of Special Security Force (SSF) - agency which is entrusted with security of the prime minister - are also said to have met the same opposition leader in London.

The calls intercepted by Bangladeshi agencies have unearthed ISI’s plan of creating widespread disturbances along the Bangladesh-Myanmar border and in areas where Rohingya refugees are being kept.

“Indian and Bangladeshi intelligence agencies had earlier intercepted communications between ISI’s Brigadier Ashfaq and Hafiz Tohar, chief of the military wing of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), a group that is said to be carrying out attacks in the interests of the Rohingya refugees,” the CNN-News18 reported. “In these tapes, Ashfaq is heard asking Tohar to mount multiple attacks on Burmese security forces right after former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan had presented the Rakhine Commission report to Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar president Htin Kyaw on August 24,” the report added.

Sheikh Hasina assassination attempt foiled: ISI-backed Bangladesh militants planned Indira-like killing, say security agencies

An attempt on Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s life, inspired by the way Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her own bodyguards, was foiled four weeks ago by her loyalists and top counter-terrorism officers in Dhaka.

Intercepts suggested that six to seven personnel of the Special Security Force (SSF), which guards the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, were preparing to attack Hasina on 24 August. Their plan was to attack her as soon as she would step out of her office for an evening stroll.

Four independent sources, including two in Dhaka and two in the external intelligence apparatus of India dealing with Bangladesh, confirmed the development.

A top official in Bangladesh’s National Security Intelligence told News18 that the attack was being coordinated with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) militants. According to the plan, JMB jihadis were supposed to trigger a series of explosions around Hasina’s office to divert the attention of the other security guards, and to provide an escape route to the assassins.

“The plan was modelled on the assassination of Indira. It was supposed to be an inside job performed by recalcitrant bodyguards with the outside support from jihadis,” another top intelligence official working closely with Bangladesh PMO told News 18.

JMB, an internationally recognized terror group, has taken responsibility for many bomb blasts in Bangladesh and aims to replace democratically-elected government with Islamic State. The plan was foiled after a joint team of Indian and Bangladeshi intelligence officers intercepted the communication between JMB militants and the rogue SSF guards.

As soon as the conversation around the conspiracy was intercepted, Hasina was advised to stay put at a location outside her office in Dhaka, where she had gone for a personal meeting.

Following this, her loyal guards formed an inner ring around her. The rogue men were nabbed right after this, paving the way for Hasina to return safely to her office.

“The whole operation was discreet. We wanted to catch every last person involved in this,” a top official in Dhaka said. According to sources, the suspects are still being interrogated by Bangladeshi authorities.

News18’s request for comment from Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka through the Bangladeshi High Commission in Delhi didn’t elicit any response.

A spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi said the issue pertains to Bangladesh and declined to comment further.

This is said to be the eleventh assassination attempt on Hasina since she took charge in January 2009. Indira was assassinated by two members of her security detail on 31 October, 1984 as she walked from her residence to office in New Delhi.

In the attempt on Hasina’s life, Pakistani spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) is suspected to be among the main conspirators of the attack. “It all began when ISI’s Brigadier Ashfaq, in-charge of eastern operations, met a top opposition leader from Bangladesh in London two months ago,” said one of the intelligence officials in Dhaka.

The Bangladeshi intelligence is closely monitoring two major general-level officers of SSF, who also met the same opposition leader in London. According to the sources, these SSF officials made a phone call to a top officer in the ISI’s Operations Directorate, which suggested finalisation of a plan to create large-scale disorder in Bangladesh.

Indian and Bangladeshi intelligence agencies had earlier intercepted communications between ISI’s Brigadier Ashfaq and Hafiz Tohar, chief of the military wing of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), a group that is sai to be carrying out attacks in the interests of the Rohingya refugees.

In these tapes, Ashfaq is heard asking Tohar to mount multiple attacks on Burmese security forces right after former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan had presented the Rakhine Commission report to Aung San Suu Kyi and Myanmar president Htin Kyaw on 24 August.

Myanmar news agency Mizzima, in a report, published the content of the two calls from Ashfaq to Tohar and one from Islamic State spokesman Al Amin to Tohar on 23 and 24 August. According to intelligence officers in Dhaka, ISI was working on a pincer plan to create unrest in the Bangladesh-Myanmar border region by assassinating Hasina.

A red alert has been issued across Bangladesh to guard against possible attempts to trigger communal violence, particularly in south-east Bangladesh where thousands of Rohingya refugees are living in temporary camps.

In the past, South Africa were isolated from ICC for their apartheid policy. It is high time ICC acts and expels Pakistan for supporting and exporting terrorism which is far worse than apartheid.
