Women cricketers overpaid?

Postby Katto » Wed Sep 13, 2017 3:56 am

Average wages for international female cricketers - factoring in match fees and performance bonuses plus WBBL retainers - will be around A$ 180,000 this season, rising to A$ 211,000 in 2021-22, the final year of the recently completed MoU. Average wages for domestic-only players will be around A$ 55,000 this season, rising to A$ 58,000 in 2021-22.

Seems a hefty pay packet for something that brings in zero revenue

they are now the highest paid female 'athletes' in the country, higher than such sports as netball which at least draws a crowd.

Would be interesting to see the public reaction to a male public figure pointing that out. So says the cynic in me.

That's the reality these days.

Much like the gay marriage debate here. If you take one side you're pilloried

Yeah. It's a minefield being in the middle ground sometimes but you can't even say that!

Never mind. As long as everything is fair. Even here at cricforum!

call me sexist but i think you get more viewership & stadium attendance if the players wear modern western summer outfits that all modern women usually wear out under sun. ahem.

I would agree with you, but have you seen what the average woman cricketer looks like?
I've always been of the belief that if you've got it flaunt it, however the converse condition should also apply.

I don't think its at all sexist to suggest sex sells. It would be sexist to force the uniform onto them merely because males prefer the look of it.

Aesthetic appeal of netball uniforms, a prediminantly female sport has been tinkered with in the past. LPGA has told its competitors that skirts or shorts ought to be covering buttocks this year in golf (some of these women wear very scant outfits and part time model), and Sharapova looked like she was wearing a cocktail dress with sneakers at the US open this year. If the golfers and tennis girls don't want to wear the men's equivalent of pants and shorts respectively, let them wear whatever they want. If it boosts ratings and generates money - all the better. Might be an issue for Muslim players; but exceptions can be made there for compliance. Male Sikhs find a way to bat and bowl despite their head dress issues.

Law 31.6 - benefit of the doubt for an dismissal appeal goes to the batsman
A third umpire call for a run out or stumping is a referral, not a review.

figure hugging stretchable spandex type runner outfits would make players run or move faster.

Cricket may have to be a winter sport before bobsled uniforms are worn.

Women players of Western countries used to play in skirts till 1970s before they began to play wearing pants like Indian women.

Culottes were being worn in the 90s. I think they look better than pants on women. Probably more comfortable as well bar knee grazing on hard pitches.
