Didn't know much about him as a player, dimmed behind his legacy as a selector and administrator with Basil and Boycott non-selections. But a pretty impressive Essex career. Bowler batsman and keeper. And test vice captain under peter may.

Nice to see the England players with black arm bands.

And it makes you pause to think forward to when a player on the field today passes away ofnold age in another sixty years or so, and whether I'll be remarking to my cricket mad grand children how I watched the late Jimmy Anderson take four wickets against South Africa in august '17. That was before the US-North Korea war and the collapse of western civilisation of course

I remember Doug Insole mainly as a selector of TCCB (earlier version of ECB & Wales) in the 70s.
Those were fairly tumultuous times for English cricket.
