MCC approve bid to tie bails to the stumps

Postby Boycs » Wed Apr 12, 2017 8:13 am

To prevent Boucher-style injuries.

Why not just wear sunglasses or clear glasses?

Tying bails to stumps to stop them flying off more than a couple of inches seems ridiculous when they could just wear glasses.

Indeed. Tidy keeper. Took a bail to the eye in 1990.

Goes to show it wasn't unprecedented and Boucher maybe should have worn spex

Man. There is no fun watching a fast bowler clean bowls a batsman without bails flying off in grandeur or a direct hit throw off a run out.

I agree

we've had what about 120+ years of cricket and how often do the bails cause injury...

If keepers reflexes are too slow to avoid bails then wear glasses standing up.

It's the gravity free pen versus pencil debate again. I can only guess that the counter argument is about distortion of depth perception or something with the goggles but it can't be that severe if they're in constant use by fielders and across other sports

What's the guarantee that the chain that hold the bail won't snap and let loose when 140+ speed ball hit it with full force by a fast bowler?
I have seen wickets snap in half by fast bowlers (an awesome orgasmic view btw)
