Test cricket vs 5 day International cricket

Postby Katto » Sun Aug 13, 2017 11:22 am

This current series between India and Sri Lanka should be labeled a 3 match International 5 day cricket series.

Its not test cricket when its this one sided.

A 7th ranked team should need to earn the right to play a test match against a top ranked team.

Adding more mediocre teams to the so called 'test' playing nations will only dilute the standard of matches further.

With the introduction of Afghanistan and Ireland a de facto two-tier system should take place, where teams play each other according to their standard. So based on their current forum, Sri Lanka would be in the second tier along with the likes of Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, West Indies, Afghanistan and Ireland. They should beat these teams before earning the right to play against the top sides.

Un-fortunately two tier system will never happen according to ICC.rip88, you mention Srilanka to his current form, should play vs minor team (AfG,Ire,WI,BD or Zim) than Qualify to play top team

Well on going test, as of today, at Abu Dhabi, SRILANKA who were 63 for 3 vs top team Pakistan, NOW 311 for 6
So one can not say minor because they batted whole day yesterday plus one session now vs class bowling of Amir, yasir and Hasan Ali

Karunaratne 93
D.Chandimal 108 not out
Dickwella 83

Hasan Ali and Yasir 2 wickets each
NZ batted 27 overs for their 26 (WR in Tests) all out in 1955

Srilanka 322 for 5 off 122 overs
One can not tell them minors.

Yes but ICC not believing that way.I remember here ( Potchefstroom test in 2002) Gibbs/Kallis and someone hits big 100
Vs BD and poor BD were 96 all out vs Kallis.

Where is the standard of cricket?
