Exactly.
He is in a party that doesn't value skills. First requirement to be successful in that party is subservience to THE family.

impressive indeed... BUT Britain doesnt OWE anything to India... simply put, they gave us infrastructure, Education, Healthcare, Science & Technology and more... if not for Britain, there wouldnt be any INDIA...no Bharath... we would have been a bunch of petty states, kingdoms, living in the jurassic times...constantly at each other's throats.. it is very painful for me to say it BUT, we owe England a "Thanks"... Thanks, England.. (i am going to be sick... )...

It was more a general debate than anything else, with speakers lined up to argue both sides of the debate, as usually happens.

Here is a summary by Tharoor of his speech.

As pointed out by Tharoor, there are examples of countries that got infrastructure, Education, Healthcare, Science & Technology and more... without first having to be colonised by Britain. Britain arrived at India and united India (for their own sake) and so Indians received this "united" India from them during independence. If China could get united without needing colonisation by Britain, then there is no reason to believe why Indians could not have got united likewise.

That's a big "IF", Atul.. unfortunately, we have just too many divisions among us to get "United" by ourselves.... Caste (and a myriad subclasses within a caste, that hate each other), Religion, States and language (with subregions), North, South, East, West, etc., etc.. the Chinese didnt have to mend this many divisions and they HAD the iron fist of communist Govt., with its machinery to pull them into a single block... i like Shashi tharoor btw..
