Eagles 66 for 1, Kites 58 for 1 and Kingfishers 58 for 2 after the first half in Solidarity Cup
July 18 2020

The game is meant to raise funds for people in the game who have suffered financially because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Kites end with 58 for 1 and occupy the second position after the first round of six overs.

Andile Phehlukwayo gets rid of Rickelton. The batter looked to paddle it and missed it to be trapped LBW. Was a close call which went in favor of the bowler. 49 for 1 after 5 overs.

Fortuin creates a chance against Smuts but the keeper fluffs the chance. Kites have raced to 44 for 0 after 4 overs.

Ngidi goes for 16 runs in his 1st over.Kites have moved to 33 after 3 overs. Smuts is smacking them well.

Kites are 17 for no loss after two overs of their first half of 6 overs.

Smuts and Rickelton start the innings for Kites.

Story so far in the #TC Solidarity Cup:

Kingfishers: 56 for 2 after 6 overs

Eagles: 66 for 1 after 6 overs

Eagles end on 66 for 1.Markram starring with the bat with a quickfire 47 off 23 balls. ABD scratched around for a 7 ball 11. But in the second part of the innings both these batters will resume their knocks.Up next, Kites will be batting their first half of 6 overs.

Markram takes Shamsi to the cleaners. Two big hits over the fence have taken the score for Eagles to 53 for 1. 21 off that over.

Nine runs come from the 4th over which has taken the score to 32 for 1 after 4 overs.

Tabraiz Shamsi bowls a pretty decent over and concedes only 7 in his first over.. Eagles are 23 for 1 after three overs. In fact, it could have been a better over had Klaasen not dropped ABD off the last ball of the over.

Stuurman clean bowls Rassie van der Dussen with a fuller ball.Eagles are 16 for 1 after 2 overs. And here comes Ab de Villiers!

Eagles off to a sedate start.Markram and van der Dussen are opening the innings.

Back after a quick break, and when we do, it's Eagles' time to bat. KF will bowl.

Malan follows Hendricks back in the hut, tries to go big again but picks out Miller in the deep perfectly. Both openers back in the hut, but he's made a solid 31 off 16and done his job pretty well. Nortje gives only five off the over and KF are 56/2 at the end of first part of their innings.

Malan goes big again and fetches his second six of this game. He's on 30 off 11 now, and Reeza joins the party after a sedate run-a-ball 13. One bounce and a four to him. But that won't last long as he becomes the victim of Temba Bavuma's solid, sharp fielding effort. Top work from the keeper too. Tries to steal a non existent second, but is found short. Faf du Plessis is the new batsman in. KF 51/1 after 5 overs.

Malan turns it up a a few notches. A couple of boundaries followed by a huge six straight over the bowler's head. Kingfishers 30-0 after 3 overs.

R Hendricks and Malan get Kingfishers off the mark. The scores after the first over - Kingfishers 7/0

Alright then, done with the national anthem. All set for the game to begin. But before that, an important gesture

But hey, AB de Villiers is back!

Bit of news, and a dampener, from earlier in the day - Quinton de Kock has withdrawn at the eleventh hour. Here's why

Squads:

OUTsurance Kingfishers: Reeza Hendricks (captain), Heinrich Klaasen, Janneman Malan, Faf du Plessis, Thando Ntini, Gerald Coetzee, Glenton Stuurman, Tabraiz Shamsi. Coach: Mignon du Preez.

Mr D Food Kites: Temba Bavuma (captain), Jon-Jon Smuts, David Miller, Dwaine Pretorius, Lutho Sipamla, Beuran Hendricks, Anrich Nortje, Ryan Rickleton. Coach: Wandile Gwavu.

Takealot Eagles: AB de Villiers (captain), Aiden Markram, Rassie van der Dussen, Kyle Verreynne, Andile Phehlukwayo, Bjorn Fortuin, Junior Dala, Lungi Ngidi. Coach: Geoffrey Toyana.

So, here are the rules of this game:

Three teams, skippered by AB de Villiers, Reeza Hendricks and Bavuma, will compete against each other in a single match of 36 overs. Each team will bat for a dozen overs, facing six overs from each of their opponents' attacks. Bowlers will be allotted three overs each.

In the second half of their innings, teams will bat in order of the highest scores made in the first half. The last batter will stand, meaning they stay at the crease after the fall of the seventh wicket and until they are dismissed. If a side are seven-down by the end of the first half of their innings, the last batter resumes in the second half.

Welcome!

We're all new to this one, now aren't we?

The three-team game - a brainchild of CSA to be played in Centurion - marks the return of cricket in the country. The game is meant to raise funds for people in the game who have suffered financially because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

That is it from Cricket's new invention. I hope you had as much fun as we had covering it. Bye Bye! Hop on to the other tab and track the progress of the England vs West Indies game.

The 36 over game is divided into 6 segments. The three teams get to bat for 12 overs but in 2 halves of 6 each. After 6 overs of batting from each team, the team with the highest total bats again for the rest of its 6 overs. Then the second highest scorer gets a hit followed by the third team. The team with the highest aggregate gets Gold. In today's scenario Eagles won the Gold as they got 66 in their first half of 6 overs and then added 94 second time around. Six fielders are allowed for every innings and the entire ground is divided into 6 zones. Each zone can have only one fielder. The maximum a bowler is allowed is three overs each. It took some time for the teams to suss out the format but have presented a pretty good show. Markram, ABD, Pretorius and Smuts were the ones who got up and running from the word go and scored quickly.

The 3TC is the new kid on the block as far as cricket is concerned but in times to come should attract more eyeballs.

Kingfishers have to settle for Bronze. Eagles take the Gold courtesy their score of 160. Kites with 138 take the Silver and Kingfishers take Bronze as they fell well short 113 for 5.

Faf du Plessis takes Ngidi to the cleaners Ngidi to the cleaners but Kingfishers are still trailing. Three sixes and one four in that over.

Kites finish with 138 for 3 despite Pretorius scoring the quickest fifty of the game. He ended with 50 off 17 balls. Eagles are still in the Gold medal position thanks to their tall score of 160. Kingfishers already have 56 for 2 from their first set of 6 overs. They need 105 more for a Gold medal. Going to be really tough!

Stuurman bowls a superb over to ensure Kites need 33 off the final over to get into a Gold medal position. 128 for 3 after 11 overs for Kites.

28 runs off the 10th over.Kites are still in the race for the Gold medal! They need 44 off the last two overs now. Pretorius took Shamsi for some special punishment as he hit 3 sixes and two fours in that eventful 10th over.

Thando Ntini removes Smuts.Smuts was hitting them well and falls for 48 off 26 balls. Kites in some disarray. Kites are 76 for 3 after 8 overs.

Bavuma goes early in the second half their innings. Kites are 65for 2.But the stage is set for Miller, who is the next man in. Stuurman has his second scalp and has picked up both the wickets.

Eagles finish with 160 for 4 after their 12 overs.Huge task ahead for Kites and Kingfishers as both need more than 100 runs in their remaining six overs to harbour thoughts of finishing close this humongous target. Eagles were propelled by explosive fifties from Markram and Ab de Villiers.

Nortje removes ABD for 61 off 24 balls. But the damage has been done by ABD. Eagles are 142 for 4 after the 11th over.

ABD brings up his fifty off 21 balls.

Sipamla gets rid of Markram, who finished with 70 from 33 balls. Sipamla also removes Phehlukwayo for a golden duck. The runs continue flow though. Eagles are 128 for 3 after 10 overs.

ABD has started off an explosive note after the break. Two sixes and one four off Smuts. Eagles are 96 for 1 after 8 overs. 30 runs have come off the first two overs after the break.

So in the second half: Eagles will bat first, then Kites and Kingfishers will bat last.

Story so far in the 3TC Solidarity Cup:

Kingfishers: 56 for 2 after 6 overs

Five South Africans to miss CPL after failing to confirm travel arrangements

28-Jul-2020

No South African player apart from Imran Tahir will take part in this year's Caribbean Premier League, which is due to start on August 18. Rassie van der Dussen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje, Rilee Rossouw and Colin Ingram were unable to confirm travel arrangements in time to be in Trinidad by August 1, when CPL organisers wanted all participating players to arrive in order to fulfil a 14-day quarantine period before the tournament begins.

While the CPL had organised a charter flight from London to Trinidad, the South African players were unable to get to the UK in time bearing in mind flight scarcity, visa requirements and the obligation to receive government permission. Tahir has not been in South Africa through the lockdown but in Pakistan, where he was playing in the PSL, and has been able to travel to the West Indies from there.

South Africa remains in lockdown with all provincial and international borders closed and is expected to only begin easing travel restrictions after the coronavirus pandemic peak passes at the end of September. That means the participation of South African players in the IPL is also awaiting logistical checks, chiefly government permission. Similar permission is being sought for the national women's team, who are due to play a series in England in September.

While Cricket South Africa will issue its players with no-objection certificates, and does not intend to organise any bilateral cricket during the IPL window, players will need to obtain permits to travel and will need to consider quarantine regulations. The tournament is expected to take place from September 19 to November 8, which could mean that South African players will be required to be away from home from early September until early November, given pre-tournament training and quarantines.

There is also the possibility that they will need to isolate for a further 14 days on their return home. As David Warner said, with families unlikely to be able to accompany players and tours made longer by quarantine periods, several players may need to consider their personal circumstances before committing to travel.

South Africa has ten players contracted with IPL teams, and two of them - AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis - have babies on the way. Earlier, three players missed the 3TC exhibition match. Chris Morris was unavailable for personal reasons, Kagiso Rabada missed the fixture following the death of a family member, and Quinton de Kock pulled out because a close family member tested positive for Covid-19. The men's team has not had any official training camp.
