Sri Lankan Players to go ahead with Pakistan Tour - latest update

Ten top Sri Lanka cricketers have opted out of a limited overs tour to Pakistan this month citing security concerns.

The refusal is a blow to Pakistan's hopes of once again hosting test cricket, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hoping to prove that the country was secure enough to return to the test itinerary.

Players picked in a preliminary squad were summoned for a discussion before the final squad was picked. They were given a choice about whether or not to go Pakistan, which major teams have generally avoided touring since the 2009 terrorist attack on the Sri Lanka team bus which killed eight people and injured several players.

Roshan Gunathilaka, the Sri Lanka Cricket security adviser and former air force chief, briefed the players on the security situation in Pakistan, and the security arrangements made by the PCB.

The players who opted out were one-day international captain Dimuth Karunaratne, Twenty20 captain Lasith Malinga, Angelo Mathews, Suranga Lakmal, Kusal Perera, Niroshan Dickwella, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, Akila Dananjaya, and Thisara Perera.

Kusal Mendis was not considered for selection after he was injured in a collision with team-mate Shehan Jayasuriya during a recent T20 match against New Zealand.

New ODI and T20 squads were selected, and were pending approval from the sports minister, SLC said on Monday (Tuesday NZT).

The limited-overs tour begins on September 27.

Over the past three years, Pakistan has successfully hosted Zimbabwe, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and a World XI for limited-overs matches amid intense security.
Disappointing for both SL and Pak fans really. I remember when SL was in a civil war, once NZ left the tour early, and another time, half the team went home and were replaced due to nearby explosions.

SL will get smashed without these senior players. I hope the players have not just opted out to play in the CPL. But why did Pakistan not just host the tour in the UAE? Oh well, now a second string team turns up, and Pakistan thrash them. I wish the players on both teams total safety and hope there are no incidents. It makes me unhappy when people bring attacking sport and sportsmen with bullets and bombs for their politics.

Pakistan army rules Pakistan at gun point. The prime minister is just a puppet who is installed by Army to have some fig leaf of international acceptability. Foreign powers know very well who calls the shot in Pakistan.

Now, Pakistan army cannot win against India in conventional war. So they have worked out the doctrine of hurting India by thousands cuts by sending terrorists to India after being trained by ISI of Pakistan Army.

After suffering for three decades, the present Indian government had enough and they have begun to retaliate Israeli style. On terrorist attck of Indian army in 2016 was avenged by carrying out a surgical strike in a terrorist hideout Pakistan occupied Kashmir in 2016. On February 14, 2019, a terror attack onIndian security forces killed 40 odd security men. In retaliation, Indian fighter jets entered inside Pakistan and bombed the biggest terror training institute at Balakot. It was like the MIT of terror training.

After that, lots of sabre rattling has been done with threat of nuclear retaliation and all, but Indian Government is firm and they have threatened that any future terror attack would make Pakistan pay a disproportionately heavy price. Pakistan has begun to pay the heavy price. Its economy is on its knees and it needs emergency bailout package from IMF and other countries that are prepared to bail them out.

Theere are 40000 terrorists trained by ISI in Pakistan. It is a figure given by PM Imran Khan during his meeting with President Trump. No action has been taken against them. Imran Khan was hoping that he would get some billion dollars aid from USA to "deal with" them.. But Trump has had enough of Pakistani double talk. Osama Bin Laden was hidden by Pakistan in their military cantonment and all those days they were "solemnly" telling USA that he was not there in Pakistan.

In Pakistan, Pakistani Army and terrorists are on the same side and they run the country. What action has been taken against the terrorists who attacked Sri Lankan cricketers in 2008 ? No action whatsoever. Not even any enquiry.

Pakistan may offer presidential security to Sri Lankan cricketers, but such securities mean nothing in Pakistan.Benazir Bhutto, the ex PM was under such security when she was assassinated in full public view. Many other important Pakistani Pakistanis, including the Chief Minister of a state, have met similar fate while supposedly under strict security. In all these cases the terrorists have stayed free. No acction have been taken. Some, including the murderer of the Chief Minister was in fact hailed as a hero.

So, Sri Lankan ctricketers would be just sitting ducks for 40000 unemployed terrorists who are itching to see action but India is ready for them. Pakistani army remains in practice by killing Pakistani protesters. They killed 3 million East Pakistanis in 1971 which turned East Pakistan against them and it got liberated as Bangladesh. Now they are busy killing Pakistani protesters in Balochistan, Sindh, Khaiber Pakhtunwa etc. Terrorists were giving the task of killing foreigners. They are no longer able to kill Indians. Sri Lankans are coming to Pakistan. These terrorists may be salivating at the prospect.

Sri Lankan cricketers have made a wise choice. I in fact wonder how SL cricket board can throw their players to the wolves like this. This speaks very poorly about their committment to the well being of their players.

You sure about that? The NY Times said that Pakistan shot an Indian jet down, released the pilot, and the rest of the Indian jets just dumped their payload in order to escape the Pakistan Air Force. No casualties on either side. Which is a good thing for all humanity. I'm not sure how your two countries are ever going to resolve your issues. 72 years, and there's not really been any progress.

After Indian attack of Balakot terror training school, Pakistan retaliated by entering Indian space with 24 F-16 and other fighter planes . 8 Indian air force planes who were on patrol challenged Pakistani planes. Indian fighter plane Mig 21 downed one F-16 and in the process entered Pakistan air space where he was captured. Pakistanis tried to use him as a bargain chip but India gave an ultimatum, return him immediately or face the music, so the Indian pilot was returned within two days.

Pakistani retaliation was one day after Indian bombing of Balakot. Pakistan was in denial mode saying that only some trees were felled by bombing. Indians had used laser guided accurate bombs that had entered three buildings through the roof and had killed about 300 terrorists. Pakistan denied all that but the fact remains that they closed their airspace for three months and did not allow anyone to inspect this balakot site for many weeks while they cleaned up the place and erased signs of destruction.

The fact that target was hit has been revealed through many other evidences, like one audio where a Pakistani ISI handler is seen consoling the relatives of terrorists.

The fact that such terror attacks, which used to be quite common have stopped reveals that this strike had the desired effect on Pakistani terrorists and their handlers,

Matters will be resolved when Pakistan closes down its terror camps. Pakistan PM Imran Khan has himself admitted that there are terror camps in Pakistan who are sent to neighbouring countries of India, Iran and Afghanistan. These terrorists have the backing of Pakistan army and religious fanatics.

If you two nuclear powers could stop warring already, it would make the rest of us in this planet feel safer.

This is why neither of you will ever be invited into the permanent seats at the Security Council at the UN while you keep it up.

Its damn stupid mickey mouse politics on both sides.

You're like school kids. With nukes. Stop looking for one ups like its a game. And trying to prove the media reports wrong "yeah nah we did kill heaps of them". There are people's lives at stake, a planet at stake.

There is no winner between you 2 counties militarily. 72 years. You still havn't figured this out. You both look stupid right now. That is why the UN will not let you in the Security Council permanently. Do you get this?

Actually you probably don't. Mutually Assured Destruction. You're neighbors, both armed with nukes. NEIGHBOURS. SHARING A PHYCIAL LANDLOCKED BORDER. Idiots. You're unable to conquer them, they are unable to conquer you. So how about you actually try and put your heads together and find some peace. That should be your only goal. As rational reasonable human beings. Cos while you're both trying to swing as big dicks, you look pretty damn childish to the rest of the world. And stupid, too. Ireland didn't even have nukes and UK did, they still found peace as damn neighbors!

At least USSR and USA never went into direct conflict and were both too smart for that. India and Pakistan make them look like geniuses, and themselves less so. Win over the people, or win over the established government, or do something that isn't sending fighter jets into your nuclear armed neighbour. And don't get shot down.

Back to the cricket.

Pakistan is a terror sponsoring state. Pakistani ministers routinely issue threats of nuclear war every other day. Just a few days ago, education minister of Pakistan stated that they have smart nuclear bombs that would only kill Hindus.

Please do not equate Pakistan with any other countries in the world. Pakistan was created on the basis of hate against India. UN designated global terrorists roam around freely in Pakistan and they are allowed to operate freely.

Link please.

Pakistan was created from a religious divide in the British Raj. Both India and Pakistan were created at the same time in 1947.

Tbh, if two nuclear powers are going to behave this way, perhaps the world would have been better off with England still looking after both countries until you were ready to be responsible military powers armed with nukes.

I never saw the scene in Ghandi where he was like, "and I want a button, with some nukes",,,,

Sri Lankan Players pull out of Pakistan Tour

It’s railway minister not education minister.

The statements by the Pakistan’s Railway Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad on his country possessing ‘smart bombs that target Hindus only’ had literally bombed the Internet with laughter.
