Not being picked for the IPL this year meant that Ishant was available for county cricket.
He played for Sussex and did quite well for them.
I think he even started off with a five-fer.

Even Zaheer Khan, after being cold-shouldered by Greg Chappell (then India coach), had a county stint - and was a changed, more effective, bowler thereafter.

A county stint does help.
Pujara has failed to impress with his county cricket but maybe that shows he doesn't have the game for English conditions.
Not yet at least.

I would like to see more BCCI players in county cricket.

It's difficult to fit in a county schedule, what with players being pretty drained after IPL and probably wanting a break before the next demanding internatinal stint, but it is a valuable experience, with bat or ball.

You also make friends in county cricket that you will cherish for life, I think.

Viv and Botham became great friends when they were at Somerset together.

I don't mind if they don't get runs as long as they don't lose any more wickets.

Still 140 overs to play in this Test.
We need 401.
If, in the 50-odd overs today, we get even 120 runs, we will be chasing 280 tomorrow.

Very doable.

Come on Jos and Ben.
Let's do it!

These two have batted together for 28 overs. Very frustrating. Also gives Bairstow's finger more time to heal.

Brilliant!

Still only 4 wickets down.

327 more to get....Keep going, Jos and Ben.

We can do this.

Just don't do anything silly, and lose your wicket.

Runs will come - no great hurry. Plenty of overs in the game.

100 for Jos.
Yaaaay!

More importantly, we're now 220 for 4.
Just about 300 more to get.

Come on, boys!
We can do this.
Just hang in there...the runs will come.
Plenty of time and overs in the game.

Would be an absolute national embarrassment if India lose this. Watch the run rate shoot up when they take the new ball too.

Bumrah's excellent bowling with the second new ball means India can sleep comfortably. He dismissed Rashid but was overturned because of a no-ball. India need 1 more wicket tomorrow. Bumrah gets 5

England needs big change in their top order

I want to dedicate my innings especially to my wife. She's motivated me a lot, kept pushing me. She's the only one who keeps me positive out there.

only one??? only one?
ravi sastry, are you listening ?
what were you doing in England ? you went there to party? to gain few more pounds to an already bloating tummy?

Virat says it’s the batsmen that won the game. i don’t agree. i see a lot of ME ME ME ME ME on his post match speech. 350 is not a “great” score. batting wins matches only when the teams cross 500 mark. getting opposition in first innings for 161 is what won the match. credit goes to H pandya to break the ice. he also contributed grittily with bat also with a much valuable 50. he should be man of match IMO.

Congrats to BCCI fans.
I thought we would win 5-0 but 4-1 will do nicely as well.
We really need to improve our top-order batting if we are to not suffer another loss.

Between Cook and Jennings, we have two walking wickets right now.
Strange, because these conditions should suit them.

Having said that, credit to BCCI bowlers.
Ishant is a decent bowler in these conditions.
Pandya was excellent in the first innings.
Bumrah got vital wickets in the second innings.

Kohli, Rahane, Pujara amongst the runs.

Dhawan, Rahul had ok games - nothing great - but good enough to retain their places.

Pant snared 6 behind the stumps - how was his keeping otherwise?

Ashwin and Shami hardly did anything - but the others made up for it.

Can't say how we will react to this defeat.
We lost at Lord's in 2014 too - but thrashed BCCI in the Tests that followed.

Before 3rd test they were told by BCCI to gets ready but I doubt any of them has slight chance for Rose Bowl test.

If louie_db09 read my post, he know why I say,so.vihari should tested for Oval test.

I think BCCI have lost it already.
Allowing England to get to 246 from 86/6 is classic BCCI screw-up.
100 too many - 146 would've been more like where 86/6 could have ended.

3-1 England.

Oval Test will be dead rubber game.

It's trend since that 31 run defeats,English lower order piles up runs either easily or English batsman/allrounder adapt home condition better or history favors England, since years.

I doubt English lower order ever Wags vs Richard Hadlee,McGrath or Imran in England.

By his normally defensive standards, this was a a refreshingly attacking innings from Pujara.
Decent fightback from BCCI to get to 283 after being 195/8.
Not that it's going to make a difference to the result.

Stokes-Buttler once again proving they're the most solid middle-order pair in the world.
Another 25 runs and England are through.

I don't want to see England bowl :)
Law 31.6 - benefit of the doubt for an dismissal appeal goes to the batsman

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Can't even get 235 on a wicket that was still very batsman-friendly.

Too dependent on Kohli.

And he too was given a let-off by the umpire (and TV umpire) when 9.

Pant played a rubbish shot to get out, knowing there's a fielder right there for the catch.

Well bowled, England.

Especially Moeen Ali - getting the ball on the spot most times, not giving anything away.

You might call him a rubbish spinner but fact is, he does trouble the batsman with his accuracy.

Ashwin, in comparison, was a disaster.
