Zimbabwe well in the driving seat now. Windies need to be careful in their chase that their NRR does not take a hit

Even if they don't manage to see this one home, their NRR should be good enough to put Ireland and Afghanistan out of the picture regarding qualification

Gayle failed today.
He has this tendency to fail in big games.
Happened a lot in IPL too.

If Windies get to the final, let's see how he does then.

This guy Blessing Muzurabani seems to be a blessing for Zimbabwe. :-)

Windies just need to avoid defeat against Scotland now to confirm their place. Ditto Zimbabwe v UAE

I think weather forecast also not good for scottland / WI clash

Afghanistan will win tomorrow easily with their spin strength vs UAE
Axar & Chahal failed to take wicket at Banglore vs Proteas A

Looks like Windies and Zimbabwe then.
Though I'd still like Afghanistan to go through - they still can, if they win all their remaining matches, right?

Afghanistan's fate is dependent on matches not involving them. If Zimbabwe win their next matche, they will have more than 6 points (what Afghanistan can reach at the most). West Indies next plays Scotland. Whichever team wins the match will qualify as well. So the two teams that can score more than 6 points are West Indies/ Scotland and Zimbabwe. So Afghanistan will be out even if they win all their super six matches and reach 6 points.

Oh no!
That means they won't make it.
I'll miss the Zadrans.
I don't know how many they have, but there's at least one in the side at any given time. :-)

It looks like Ireland v Afghanistan on Friday will be a dead rubber but if Barry McCarthy gets four wickets he will become the second fastest bowler to reach 50 ODI wickets. One for the future definitely

looks like next World Cup will be very traditional
held in England, with Windies and Zimbabwe in attendance and no upstarts

should play in white and have 60 overs a piece

I'd be interested to see what the weather is like tomorrow in Harare because, if I have this right, a wash-out of Zimbabwe v UAE means that Afghanistan v Ireland effectively becomes a play-off for the second spot (although Afghanistan will need to win well to improve their NRR)

235 /7. Off 47.5 overs
Rains stopped play

I bet thirdman suddenly looking for Ireland's chances tomorrow.their NRR too goid

NRR is irrelevant Tinsel. If teams are tied on points the first criteria used is the number of overall wins. If this game is washed out (not likely since the rain has stopped) the winner of Ireland v Afghanistan would have 3 wins to Zimbabwe's 2 and would qualify irrespective of NRR.

This match is more interesting than the test match currently.
Nice to see a good size crowd in at Harare.

Zims have got some work to do against the mercenaries. 230 is a good score off 40 overs and 1 down already.

From cricinfo..

How can Zimbabwe still qualify?

Zimbabwe's loss means they end with five points whereas Afghanistan and Ireland, who will play each other on Friday, have four each. Whoever wins on Friday will take the tenth spot in the World Cup but Zimbabwe still have a slim and improbable chance of making it which rests on the Afghanistan-Ireland match ending in a tie. In that case, all three teams will be tied on five points each but both Afghanistan's and Ireland's net run rate will take a beating since the teams will be conceding as many runs as they score. While Afghanistan's NRR (0.34) is already below Zimbabwe's (0.42), Ireland's NRR (0.47) will slip below Zimbabwe's to a value of 0.377.

However, if Friday's clash is washed out, the three teams will end on five points again but the NRRs for Afghanistan and Ireland won't change and Ireland will go through because of a higher NRR.

In hindsight it was a bad decision by Zimbabwe to put UAE in to bat first. There was always going to be rain delay and as we have seen, its always better to get runs on the board in that situation. More of the same is predicted tomorrow so the toss will be crucial. Ireland have a tough call to make regarding No.7. We've been playing Gary Wilson there as a specialist batsman but as with the Zimbabwe game we maybe should go with an extra spin option so Simi Singh may get the nod.
