They've let the RRR creep up to almost a run a ball. They still have the advantage but would want to avoid a nervy last few overs.

Suddenly Zimbabwe are interested....

Didn't think that would go to the last over but congratulations Afghanistan. They made hard work out of getting there but now that they made it I think they'll do quite well. Best of luck to them

Very happy for Afghanistan.
Too bad for Zimbabwe but only 2 teams can go through, and Windies were through, so it would have been at the cost of Afghanistan.
Pity that the W orld Cup format has become so limiting.

Anyway, well done, Stanikzai (I remember AK was complaining about you sometime ago :-)).

Now for the Zadrans of this world to show up at WC19. :-)

OMG how have Afghanistan qualified?

I was extremely sad after the loss to Scotland and then Zimbawe. I was 100% confident we were done and dusted even if we win against Hong Kong and Nepal. But then we friikin lose to Hong Kong and the humiliation was complete of not even making Super six.

Then our angel Nepal saved us. Thank you Nepal.

We won against Windies and UAE, but still we were firmly on our way out. Luckily other results wen our way and we managed to defeat Ireland.

So happy. YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES

:) :D

He is so bad normally, but he does well at the most important games. Overall his record is abysmal.

So happy he finally performed.

Zadrans are like the Khan's in Pakistan team. There will always be at least 2 in the team

Also feel bad for Ireland. They are a proper team. Better then Zimbabwe. Deserved to play the world cup. Ideally I would have prefered Ireland and Afghanistan to qualify.

the humiliation is on windies to get forced to play in this qualifier. they must be totally pissed off. man. it’s a lesson for all top teams to play good or face humiliation.

Hello AK :)

No we don't deserve to be there. We won the games we were expected to but had chances against WI, Zimbabwe and again today and bottled it every time. At least now we can start the rebuilding job on the team.

Anyway congratulations again. Are you planning to go to any of the games next year AK?

This qualifier saw several teams doing well. Based on this , I think ICC should increase the number of teams for next world cup to 12. At least two out of three (from Zimbabwe, Ireland, Scotland) should have gone through along with the two qualifiers.

As for Afghanistan, they were extremely lucky twice in this tournament where a weaker team was expected to defeat a stronger team to enable Afghanistan to advance. First Nepal defeated Hongkong (a team that had defeated Afghanistan) and that enabled Afghanistan to advance to super six. In the super six, UAE, winless in super six, were required to defeat the stronger Zimbabwe to throw a lifeline to Afghanistan, and amazingly that is what happened.

Now that Afghanistan has escaped out of jail not once but twice, they owe a lot to Nepal and UAE. I think Afghanistan will do well in the next world cup. They still have another one year to improve.

I think Stanikzai (27 from 63 balls) is a strokeless wonder and he should go if Afghanistan have better players available with them.

I like this format
we get a better quality World Cup and we get a competitive qualification tournament

I feel for the Irish players. They have been very consistent over the years and done pretty well at WC.

I am definitely going to UK for the games. And I think many Afghans will go from all over Europe.

Who had the worst week? Zimbabwe, Scotland or Australia?

We've had better weeks too. All things considered I'd say Zimbabwe.

Not surprisingly Sikander Raza won the player of the tournament but had some words for the ICC

"When I started playing cricket I thought it was to unite countries, players, of different backgrounds, coming together to play this beautiful sport. Unfortunately we see that is not going to happen in next year's World Cup".

Afghanistan and Ireland were awarded full membership last year. Ireland have their debut test match next May against Pakistan.
