Cook is a great player but looked past his prime this series. Superb century but fact is didnt score in the crunch games.

Yeah but unlike Tendulkar, Cook won a series in Australia with a ton of series runs at 127.66 and now has 8 years to run his runs if not centuries records down. And he's an opener! From England!

Hail chef!

Truth be told, Cook has the best chance to break Tendulkars test runs record.

Cookie Monster is back!

All he has to do is work on his leave and he’ll be back, keeps edging wide balls his attempting to drive

Yep The Chef is back in his kitchen. But like others have said he has left his run too late. England wanted a substantial Cook/Root partnership in one of the first three matches.. not a dead rubber.

Dec 27 always worst for Australia since 2015 Melbourne Test ( except vs Pak, MS helped them win Boxing Day Test by an innings )
On going Test, second test he missed on Boxing Day.).

Yesterday Harvey’s 136 in vain as Pak youth beat them inside 45 overs @Melbourne, their senior team lost 7 wickets for 83 vs England their bowler get little success vs Old war hero - Cook / Root also at Melbourne.

He told in England “ it’s upto ECB if I reaches there or not “

Waqar ( Pak) says,” The way Virat piles up runs,he will break all records” I, Yorkshire,do not think so,he may ends up his career with 12000 tests runs

Virat Kohli has not convinced me. He may thrive on low, flat sub continental roads but fails test in all conditions. He piled on the runs last time India were in OZ because we generously provided him and Rahane with batting friendly decks. The only venue that he failed on was the extra bouncy Gabba in Brisbane. He is also a liability against the moving ball as he displayed on last tour of England. No not sold on him. Smith, Root and Williamson get runs in all conditions.

Right. Home from work. It’s time to watch root and cook smack some runs.

God root only has one second innings hundred.

Fifty for root as I type!!! Kerplunk - out it goes to mid wicket for a single.

Cook chopped his first ball for a single too.

I’m a happy cricket fan right now

Cook getting the bat behind these defensive shots. Moving feet well.

These are all signs of a Cook in the mood

Pressure builds. Cook driving for no runs.

England need to ride this pressure wave until Australia can’t maintain it.

That will help. Clipped off the knee roll for two down to fine leg

Stuart Broad believes a more attacking mindset was key to his much-improved performance at the MCG.
Really Stuey so where was the "attacking mindset" for the first three and most vital tests?

Fool root. You deserve to be disgusted with yourself there.

In comes Malan. In form. We will see if Australia have just got a fingernail into the crack here. Root has just nudged the door open a little bit. Prat.

Maybe it’s a youthful immaturity thing, this inability to turn fifties into hundreds.

Cook still there. He’ll churn out a big daddy hundred for me to read about tomorrow

Why isnt Smith holding Cummins back for the new ball. He looks much sharper today while Bird is pedestrian.

Jimmy Anderson was right. There is a lack of depth.
What depth there was is on the long term injury list.

Lyon needs to strike in this session.
He has. Bairstow andd Ali. Neat piece of work by Paine gives him his first. A superbly timed leap by SOS gifts him the other.

Plus little lead from England will put Aus under pressure.Lyon can do that NOW

Yes yes England Peg Back Lyon jumped to 63 wickets, Anderson can beat him only if he takes 10 wickets on part of today and tomorrow

Congratulation Cook for 3rd score of 150 vs Australia.

Born on December 25, Cook now 33 years and 3 day old, he passed 150 as many as 11 times.Melbourne test is his 151st. test.

Cook dropped on 154 off Cummins
Cook might completes 12000 because he need 127 only, he has 3 innings coming up in Current series.

Reckon Cook will go until 2019 Ashes.. so he should take care of Lara amd probably Sangakkara on the all time list. Have a go at how Smith is moving up that list at a rate of knots.

I do not believed how England scored 417 at MCG on 4th innings vs Australia but still loosing by 45 runs

Above highest score in test cricket in the 4th innings

Its tea
360 for 6

Cook well set for yet another 200

I remember he twice missed dismissed 189 at Sydney and 190 elsewhere but he hits

294 vs Ind.
263 vs pak
243 vs WI

Disregard what Smith did before his second coming in 2013/14. He was playing as a leg spinning all rounder who batted #8

This comparison shows how far ahead Smith is getting from everyone else since Sanga retired. While Kohli is in if not leading the Amla, ABDV, Root, Pujara, KW group - Smith is on his own right now.

Interested in this Markram kid from Safrica tho.

Law 31.6 - benefit of the doubt for an dismissal appeal goes to the batsman
A third umpire call for a run out or stumping is a referral, not a review.

Well Hazlewood has bowled with a lot of luck this innings, 2 LBW's with inside edges. Given out by umpire, no review.....Baggers can you say "match fixing". Currently Hazlewood should only have 0/75 but he has had a lot of luck. I am starting to think Starc's bowling contributes a lot to the wickets of Hazlewood, rather than the other way around as some suggest.
