This Match is in real trouble, needs a couple of hours of sunshine to dry the Pitch and its raining now.

Match delayed by a wet outfield is the worst news you want to hear

The bookies think there will be play.

Australia ranges between

1.53 and 1.60

But the draw is still backable

2.20 to 3.30.

England

750.00

It hasn't rained in Perth in 47 years. You can't blame them for not being prepared.

There are 3 certainties in life
Birth
Death
And 5 days of Hot sunny Weather with no rain in Perth for the Test.
This is a freak event for Perth, a once in 50 years event.

As usual, the weather gods smile on England.
This isn't the first time they've been helped by the weather.
I remember a Test in the early 70s against Pakistan when Pakistan were robbed of a certain win.

I half expected you to say the rain robbed England of a chance to get a lead and then bowl Aus out in the final session and goto Melbourne 1-2 instead of 0-2.

Still haven't ruled out the possibility of Australia having to bat out an hour (or less) in their second innings - and not managing to.
1-2 very much on the cards.
Congrats, Boycs!

This is looking scary now for Australia.
With the odds at 750 on an England win, some bookies are going to be in a lot of trouble.

Can any sight be more disheartening for the Aussies than to see Craig Overton, Adelaide hero, come in to bat at No.9?
It's almost as if Viv Richards never retired.

The Aussie commentators are totally underestimating England.
"Australia can sniff it...they're only three wickets away".

Come on!
We're talking about Woakes, Overton, Broad and Anderson here.
Four of the world's best all-rounders right now.

Can't see England lose with this sort of depth.

Anderson has 1125 runs in Tests, with a double-figure average.
He can bat - and Woakes is the 2nd best Test allrounder in the world right now, after Stokes.

So I fully expect England to go to the MCG, at least only 0-2 down if not 1-2.

Winning at home is just ticking a box though. Anything less than 5-0 at home vs England is seen as a failure.
Its sort of ho hum for most Aussie fans and England fans don't count Ashes losses that occur in Australia.
So in the mind of the English they still retain the Ashes which they'll defend at home in 2019.

From Twitter:

Alastair Cook equals the record for the most Test matches lost in Australia by an overseas player:

Sir Jack Hobbs (ENG) 14 (24)
Sachin Tendulkar (IND) 14 (20)
Alastair Cook (ENG) 14 (18)
Brian Lara (WI) 13 (19)
Chanderpaul (WI) 12 (14)
Wilfred Rhodes (ENG) 12 (20)
James Anderson (ENG) 12 (16)

------

So at least Cook shares this one record with Tendulkar.
Ideally at the MCG, he'll have this record exclusively to himself.

England won in 2010-11 because they were facing Siddle and Hilfenhaus for a lot of that series and no spinner of any value.
Compare to Johnson and fit Harris, then Hazlewood-Starc

Is there no end to English arrogance? Where was the magnanimity of Root in his press conference. Was waiting for him to praise the Aussies for their comprehensivre victory to win the Ashes in three matches. All I heard was how well his boys went in making a game of each Test. How many sessions did England win Root?

He was being grilled by the English media. He was on the defensive for most of it hence those responses.

Unibet has paid out on series bets already for those lucky punters who got in before the Gabba test.

Thinking ahead to SA now I say to myself Dan can Australia win that series as well?

Betting not open yet.

A couple of Poms come away from the Ashes defeat with loftier reputations than when they started.

Other than Steve Smith (426) who was lite years ahead of any other batsmen, Dawid Malan (302) and Jonny Bairstow (241) brought up the placegetters.

To put into the correct perspective tho they did have more innings in which to accrue their runs than did Australians..Shaun Marsh (224) and Dave Warner (196) But hats off to Malan and Bairstow all the same.

Australians Mitchell Starc (19), Josh Hazlewood (15) and Nathan Lyon (12) not surprisingly were the three most successful bowlers.

The biggest disappointment has been that super competititor..Stuart Broad..5w @61..with 0-142 in this match. Is this the end for him? His partner in crime and the man the Aussies love to hate James Anderson has probbably had his best Ashes to date with 12w @25.

If they can take this bowling attack, fully fit and the right mindset sure they can.
The only big question mark is over the batting which has been an issue since the era Hayden-Langer etc ended.

Malan looks like a genuine stayer for England. Overton looks promising.
Woakes completely overrated and probably wouldn't have played if Stokes had been around.
Mo has been pretty hopeless. Batting and bowling in Australian conditions seems to be above his pay grade.

How many sessions did England win Root?

He was being grilled by the English media. He was on the defensive for most of it hence those responses.
Then the Pom press asked him the wrong questions. Should have been something like this. "Joe how you do you propose to win the next two tests after the Aussies showed you they are far superior." Yes they are..but we just have to regroup and keep on taking it to them"

What do you expect from the media...
Their job is to get one quote they can make a headline out of.

Talk already of cook retiring and the captaincy being too much for root.

Get over it. Australia at home are far stronger than us. Nothings happened that we didn’t expect.

Get us back for some Home tests and we’ll crush some touring sides and feel better :D

I agree its all knee jerk stuff.
Broad though has been crap and there's no excuse as he was decent on the last tour here.

I’ve been disappointed with Root and cook too. Though root has made a couple of fifties. And yes Broad is a shame too.

Malan is the biggest surprise for me. I totally got that one wrong.

I’d take comfort if in the next two tests we put together some better performances.
