First Ashes Test Australia v England 23/11/2017.

Postby Loose halo » Mon Nov 20, 2017 9:46 pm

Could be a good toss to lose.

Intermittent unseasonal rain over the past 6 weeks has kept the outfield lush and green.

As for the pitch the Assistant Curator confides there will be life early on and the pitch will settle by day three.

Could be early swing as the humidity and cloud cover take effect though the forecast is for mainly fine weather over the full five days.

Temperatures have been reasonable as it is still spring in Australia and will suit both teams especially the quicks.

Expect wickets to fall on day one.

Not so sure SPD Smith (D for Devereaux would you believe?) will bowl first if he wins the toss.

Tradition dictates the winner of the toss will bat regardless in spite of the early bounce.

I remember Tubby Taylor saying at the Gabba hope to bat first and tough it out till lunch.

Don't let the "reaux" mislead you, its as English as "fish n chips" - where they took the battered fried fish from the Jews, and the chips from the French, combined them and then additionally added the vinegar themselves :D

Makes me laugh every year they show a green pitch and every year it turns into a road, captains will be crazy not too bat first.

Gonna hopefully have BT Sport installed in the bedroom TV before 23:00 so I can see the build up in bed. We will see. Currently working downstairs but not upstairs.

hmmmm!

The countdown nevertheless continues.... it's unfortunate that I have to be up at 05:15 hours tomorrow.

Well I'm up and running at 0530 Brisbane time and have done my internet chores ready for the telecast in a few hours.

The weather mob have upped the anti to 60% chance of showers amounting between 1 to 5ml but I am optimistic though yesterday was rainy heavy at times.

Not sure how much the Gabba got as I am up at the Sunshine Coast intending to watch the full game.

According to Devereaux Smith on Inside Cricket last night both Warner and Marsh are fit to play so the Big Show can sit on the bench hopefully.

The warm up is beginning on tv. James Vince touring a bat factory. Swanny ripping good-naturedly with Broad.

Recalling MJ struggling against the barmy army and being very honest about it.

Joshing Warner about punching root :D

Cook really isn’t very charismatic is he?

We need Josh Lyman as captain!

Though even less enamoured with KP these days in his punditry

The Ashes is finally here. Good toss to loose me thinks with our quicks getting to operate in some cloud cover. Poms will have their work cut out surviving till lunch without any damage.C'mon the Baggy Greens

Deck looks decidedly flat. No seam or swing. May have been a good toss to win after all. Haze has not stated game all that well. Lost his length. Said he should have played last Blues Shield game.

It cerainly does look to be good to bat on and at 27 degrees ambient it will remain slowish. If England bat well they can accumulate runs here.

They need at least 400 so a fair way to go.

The 4k TV's because of their high pixellation (3800) show up better on FTA if it broadcast in HD as CH9 are currently.

Foxtel don't have the rights so they are dumbed down to SD.

The reverse is true when PTV have the rights Rugby Union broadcasts for example when FTA are the victims.

1080 TV's make little difference.

CA are more interested in maximising attendances (more days) than creating wickets that will ensure results and help regain the Ashes.
This is probably in contrast with most of the major national boards who put national interest first.

No but subscribers can view and more importantly record it in SD through their Foxtel IQ box.

Better than paying for it and all you need is a TV, no pay tv box, no using up data, no having to sign up for 2 years for $60 a month.

60 Australian dollar @mos is too much if it’s only CRICKET or only sports,Asian country much more cheaper with 8 sports channel with other 700/900 regular channel for 3000 rupees =under 50 bucks for WHOLE YEAR !

But yes you pay more in USA with one sports channel of cricket or two channel sometime for 60 buck monthly with other 1000 channel
