Dilruwan Pereira 99 wickets in 24 tests I do not think even Vass and Murli took 100 wickets that fast.I like this guy who is handy with the bat,i remember his 95 on début vs Pakistan.

Ishant bowling at 140 kmph + consistently. If there is variable bounce as predicted on 4th day today, he could be unplayable.

I Sharma to Dickwella, OUT, taken on the second attempt by Kohli at second slip. Ishant has been hammering away in the corridor and getting a lot of lift from the surface. This one, from around the wicket, angles in and climbs at chest height. Not much Dickwella can do. Looks to defend, but it flies off the outside edge. Kohli grabs to his left with a reverse-cup and it pops out. He over-runs a touch too. But he sticks out a right hand as he composes himself and takes it.

N Dickwella c Kohli b I Sharma 4 (12b 0x4 0x6) SR: 33.33

40.3
I Sharma to Lakmal, FOUR, leading edge but it falls clear of point running back. Kohli offers his appreciation for the effort. He doesn't care about the runs. He needn't
40.2
I Sharma to Lakmal, no run, dropped! The bottom of the leading edge comes right back at Ishant, at just below waist-height, which makes it fairly straightforward. The problem might be that it lobs up a lot slower than the bowler expects
40.1
I Sharma to Lakmal, no run, extra bounce on off stump, but Lakmal rides it well, softening his grip on the bat and making sure it goes down to point

Ashwin to Gamage, OUT, beats the outside edge and is it bowled? India review for bowled because the bail has come off. And replays confirm that Ashwin has unleashed another carrom ball and becomes the fastest bowler in Test history to 300 Test wickets. This one perfectly pitched on leg stump, on a fuller length to draw the batsman forward, but not quite so much that he can get to the ball on the full. The angle in makes Gamage play inside the line. The turn ensures the rest.
PLS Gamage b Ashwin 0 (9b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00

Virat Kohli Equal indian Record of winning with big margin
By an innings and 239 runs

Ashwin Beat Warne/Lillee and Murali because Ash reached milestone of 300 wickets in only 54 tests

When I started following the game, only Fred Trueman had 300 wickets in Test cricket.
Now every Tom, Dick and Ashwin has got there.

Well done, Ashwin. Now let's see you picking up some wickets in South Africa. :-)

Ha ha

I am sorry for Yasir who took 42/43 wickets in 6 tests in 2017 because Ashwin/Rabada/Herath still around 51/54/51 wickets with last 3 playing near 11/12 tests in 2017 if Yasir plays for England /Aus or India he might reach 70 wickets easily.

Yeah -cumulative wicket tally records really have lost their luster despite Murali on top still.

No I'm not slighting Ashwin neither. The cumulative records lost luster for me perhaps before Broad and Anderson's rise to well above modern ATG great bowlers. And Kapil Dev before them. Mitch Johnson, and don't get me wrong, I always believed in his talent and potential that he finally realized in 2013/14 summer but in and out of the test team for 8 years only, 313 wickets in 73 tests? That's far more wickets than Garner, Holding, and Roberts who had much longer and consistantly stellar careers.

Ambrose with 405 wickets at 20.99 has already been knocked down to 14th with Broad hot on his heels having gone past Lillee in 22nd and Trueman at 30th.

Broad and Anderson both could easily pass McGrath.

The peculiar standout for me is Herath, debut'd in 1999 - before Kumar Sangakarra, Younis Khan, Graham Smith, Michael Clarke, Virender Sehwag, and Kevin Pieterson. I champion his ascent. Difficult for any neutral to not to be a fan of Herath.

Yeah - its getting lean at intl level:

Gayle was Mar 2000 for test but 99 for odi.

Shoiab Malik played odi in '99.

Chanders still succeeds in FC cricket - his county runs last year were outstanding.

Bhaji is still playing IPL and FC;

Afridi is playing t20s;

and Hogg is playing t20 comps all over.

Kallis looks finished.

Has Nehra retired from ipl?

The one that gave me the biggest shock was Courtney Walsh.
He played much of his cricket during my black-out period (1988-1998), so many of my memories of Walsh were from his early days, when he was third or fourth fiddle in the side.
And then to read that he was hitting 500 - and the first-ever to get there, came as a big shock.

Ironically Raja, Tendulkar was at his best from 1989 to 1998. You missed his prime. The 100 in 1992 on a bouncy WACA pitch, the three continuous sixers off Abdul Qadir as a 16 year old youngster that ended the latters career to Desert Storm in 1998 when Kiwi fans (some relatives reside in Wellington) were thrilled that at Tendulkar's back to back knocks at Sharjah V/s Australia. Tendulkar was at his best.

But Raja , I do enjoy your perspective of 70's and early 80's which I know little of.

Ambrose, Walsh and Bishop were last of the West Indian quicks before West Indian quick bowling fell into disarray.

They were the last WI great seamers.

Herath fills his boots with bucketfuls of wickets against weak teams like Bangladesh and Pakistan. He has lots of stellar performances against weak teams but he fails to trouble Indian batsmen whenever he bowls to them.

Except one Galle Test in 2015 which India was on the verge of winning and Herath turned it around spectacularly in a batting collapse (India were bowled out I think for 112 chasing a low score), Herath has not troubled Indian batsmen otherwise.

On the other hand, Herath has always been the bogeyman for Pakistan. They have struggled against him.

Good to see Vijay getting some easy runs too.
He's played some good knocks against tough opposition - deserves to get a chance to fill his boots too.

This is his 11th 100 in his 53rd Test - so he'd pass the Boycott criterion. :-)

Vijay goes past Polly Umrigar.

When I started following cricket, only 3 Indian batsmen had passed 3000 runs.

Polly Umrigar, Vijay Manjrekar and Chandu Borde.

Umrigar, at 3631, had the highest aggregate.

And at 12 hundreds, had the most by an Indian.

The individual highest score was 231 by Vinoo Mankad.

(First Gavaskar broke this with his 236* in that rain-ruined, meaningless, Chennai Test of 1983-84, then VVS broke his 236* record with a slightly more meaningful 281 at the Eden Gardens. :-) Then of course, Sehwag broke the 300 barrier).

Meanwhile Kohli crosses 5000 and gets into John Edrich territory.

In the 70s, 5000 Test runs was a HUGE deal.

I remember Edrich and Ian Chappell getting there in the mid-70s, Doug Walters a little later.

Today every Virat, Sachin and Saurav has got there, demeaning the achievement. :-)

Kohli become first captain ever who hits 3 century in 3 match test series,he completed 3000 runs as captain of India including 16000 international runs.He hammered 11 international century in 2017, he could surely break SRT’s 12 century milestone ( 1998) before December 31 but Delhi Test will be his last before his vacation starts on Dec.7th,2017

He will not playing 6 match Limited Over Matches vs Srilanka at home

Rohit wastes a review.
BCCI 500/5 at lunch.
Kohli 225*.

Hopefully he replicates MD Crowe in acknowledging that tripple tons vs SL don't count.
Law 31.6 - benefit of the doubt for an dismissal appeal goes to the batsman
A third umpire call for a run out or stumping is a referral, not a review.

Drama in Delhi, with masks out for players against the pollution.
Gamage and Lakmal left the field, citing breathing problems, SL didn't have any substitute fielders.
Finally Kohli declared.

Let's see how Indian bowlers deal with the pollution.
