Agonising to come so close and then to blow it!
But well-fought, Windies!
You gave us one hell of a memorable game!

But would the Aussies be able to dismiss England in one of the innings for under 300 on this road?

yes, because there was some spice in the pitch on the first day, then it settled down to a road
this pitch would last 7 days

This will go down as one of the great Test matches.

Take a bow, Brathwaite and Shai Hope.

Road or not, for this West Indian side, to just dig in and play 91 overs in their second innings is a huge achievement.
And that, after batting 127 overs in the first innings.

That alone makes this Test amazing.

Wasn't Adelaide the same?
THAT Ashes Test when England lost from a seemingly impregnable position, thanks to some Warne magic?

I think KP or Collingwood got a double hundred in that Test!

Let me dig out the scorecard. Never tire of seeing that one. :-)

Yeah, but it will be 2-1, not 3-0.
And that, for me, is already a victory for the Windies.

Am just SO thrilled.

Beating England in a Test in England....nothing comes close to this. NOTHING. Certainly no World Cup.

One thing that better not happen is Root better not be slated for his declaration. His decision was a breath of fresh air and made for a fantastic Test.

Agree.

It was a sporting declaration - am glad Root went that route. And I'm not saying this because England lost.

This reminds me of possibly the most famous (and the most controversial) declaration in the history of Test cricket.

Sobers declaring the West Indies innings at 92/2, setting England 215 to win.
Boycott and Cowdrey went about the task in a no-nonsense fashion and won the Test.
And the series too.

Sobers was roundly criticized for this decision.
He later lost his captaincy to Kanhai - this could have been one of the reasons.
Sobers was always seen as an attacking player - and captain.
He defended himself saying, that is how he played the game always.

There was another crazy Test in the same series when he declared again and reduced England to 80/8 or something like that.

Let me look for the scorecards. :-)

Here's the scorecard of the Test West Indies lost.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/series/1729 ... d-4th-Test

Looking for the other one, but this Sobers declaration meant England won the series. So it hurt the Windies even more.

The last Test of the series is also very famous.
Glamorgan's Jeff Jones, father of Simon Jones, is remembered for this one Test.
A rank No.11, he survived 12 deliveries - and England ended at 206/9.

Congratulation Shai Sir of Barbadose Hope
For 2500 Sterling and m.o.Match

Joe Root not regreat for declaration on day 4 ,well I think that was very sporting declaration someone who lost 19 wickets n previous test in a day win inside 97 overs vs worlds best bowling attack

Root says "" Boys played well "" we are still learning so hopefully we will bounce back to win at Lords

Check out this amazing scorecard, where Sobers almost pulled off a win for the Windies from a hopeless situation.

Some truly amazing Tests in the past. Am reminded of that famous Neil Harvey 151* Test against South Africa in South Africa. He was barely 19 then, I think.

I watched the last day of the match and I was pleasantly surprised to find West Indies successfully chase the total, scoring 300 plus runs on the last day. Extremely creditable performance indeed. The significance of this result can be seen from Raja's restrained celebration. :)

Either tourist scored 305 or 317 on day 5 but thanks to Cook who dropped K Barthwaite in the first over on day 5 but you know, WI dropped 9 catches plus those Wickets during no balls yet WI win so ECB surely decline for the second match of the 4 Successive test series ( eng lost 4 test in every time its second test, so England not willing to win or get Louzy after first test )
