Am hoping so.
One of my favourite recent series is England losing that series in the Caribbean when Sarwan suddenly realised he could actually bat long innings.
What a fun series that was.
First Taylor bamboozled them in the opening Test, WI went 1-0 up - and despite some nerve-wracking moments, held on till the end to emerge series winners.
If I'm not mistaken that was also the series when Ravi Bopara got 2 hundreds in successive Tests.
Is he still around on the county scene? Any talk of returning to the England side?

I think it was three consecutive hundreds and yes he is still around and no there is no talk.

Taylor was a decent quick to be fair.

Roach is a good quick and chase, as paddles said, is a threat as is the opener Braithwaite

Stoneman has an easier task ahead of him than Jennings did in his first tests, in terms of opposition. he's older and perhaps more settled in his technique.

I'm really hoping Westley gets a good series to cement a place. Really enjoy watching him bat and I'm praying he doesn't get 2nd series blues of some sort.

Also looking for the same from TRJ.

not saying it will happen here.. but generally speaking, the Windies play best when no one rates them.

So for the Windies to be a force again we have to keep insulting them and highlighting how pathetic they are. Eventually their pride will enact change.

Westley gone too now. 39/2.

Not the best start. My Westley :(

Cook and Root in now. Time for a partnership and yet another Cook special.

Apparently the stoneman dismissal was to a very good ball.

Boycott is dismissive of both Westley and stoneman :D

England 50/2. Cook motoring 28 from 33

Comparing this team to the last team England had that were world beaters, that team didn't have an obvious weak link.

Our two and three and our second string bowling attack are more obvious weaknesses or unproven elements at the moment

lets not get carried away, I think all recent England teams have had weak links, but some have been better than others
George Dobell will have you believe England were world beaters for the 2 months or so they held the #1 ranking

who has retired recently?

Bell has gone, Pietersen...who am I forgetting?

I think even when England were winning (home) series against Australia they still had weak links. eg Ballance

This Windian line up isn't just weak in tests, its pretty damn weak in FC.

Braithewaite can bat half a day for 30 odd, and I would love for Chase to kick on and become a star, but Hope, Hope and Powell are questionable selections just looking at their stats. Wicket keeping young Hope is respectable at FC, but a 10 test failure as a specialist bat. Blackwood is a consistant tick over 30 in tests and FC. For most teams - that isn't good enough to keep wicket these days!

I get that a lot of West Indian FC is played on a lot of turning tracks that favour their plethora of average spinners having fc stats the envy of Grimmett and Warne, but where are the batsmen?

They gave us Headley, Sobers, Viv, and Lara - all who have fair claims to bat with the Don in the best team ever. Worrell, Weekes, Chanderpaul, Lloyd, Greenidge- its not like their cricket history is as short on quality batsmen as NZ's.

This is a shame, and I see - bar Chase- no improvement in batting talent since WI toured Aus in 2014/15. I hope I'm wrong and one of the Hopes or Powell stands up to be a solid test bat - if not more.

WICB need to selects someone in the team, their LIFE-long Rift prevents them to selects Bravo's and Gayle,NARINE and Marlon so they just pick all other with better Multiday domestic records.

Darren Bravo would improve things a bit.

Samuels - his attitude isn't where his talent is. Talent undeniable.

Gayle is possibly past test cricket now. With his back injuries, he's just stiff stand and deliver now with increasingly more frequent failures.

Narine I doubt makes the Windian test team.

The above 3 may look good and vastly improve a windian pyjama team, test team - less co vincing.

If odi cricket ever rule changes that 10 players must bowl 5 overs ea - the West Indians own cricket again with Dwayne Bravo, Russell, Pollard, Holder, Chase and many many many more allrounders.

So cook and Root play their class again. The others have missed out so far.

WI have been weaker with the but I don't think it's fair to slate England for failures against South Africa and then deride successes against the West Indies. Yes the WI are weaker and the runs are cheaper but you still have to acknowledge Cook and Root.

A trouble with Westley that is being spotted already is that fine line between having a strength for playing across your pads into the on side and a propensity for playing across your pads into the on side. A strength and a propensity are not always the same thing.

But he'll work on his game and hopefully do so while in the team because I've enjoyed watching his stroke play-filled little innings.

I loves to read about Wally Hammond such a great batsman, I guess : 6 DBL in test plus 336 chance less innings!!

He scored so Rapidly and oftenly in test after test.

I think atherton said it's Hammond Hutton KP and Cook who jointly hold an England record of ten 150+ scores.

A couple of nice names to share a record with there.

I think most cricket fans would have Cook and Root in their shortlists for if not in their World XI's. I know they're both in mine.

But the rest of the top order at present is not test let alone world standard.

Not until Smith and Hazelwood join Pattinson in the injury ward.

Thst still leaves Warner, Khawaja, Handscome, Starc, Bird/Stanlake and Cummins to fight it out.

Ya'll forgetting how close Aus was to winning or drawing a series in India, and left their 3rd best bat at home cos he has failed in dystbowls previously. England were flogged. If you really think with a fit Philander England beat Safrica at home, just remember Aus's new guard won the 3rd test vs Safrica after changing their batting.

I don't enjoy talking Aus up, in my experience that is what Strayans seem to be for, but the Aus team despite a quality keeper bat is closer to complete at present than the rest of the test nations. India need fast men, SA, Eng, Pak and NZ needs batsmen, and Eng bowlers may struggle in Aus far more than at home.

Australia selected Two Quality Keeper for next mos.india series

M.Wade (ODI)
T.paine (T20)

Do you think both very good with bat? I wonder why Henriquies keep selected for India tour in t20? Faulkner, Coulter-Nile returning but M.Starc rested for Ashes, good idea.
Daniel Christian, Jason Behrendorff, Richardson surprise selection for Indian wickets for t20.

Ashton Agar, Zampa (both format) and Cartwright picked for ODI in India.I think M.Stoinis lucky for ODI selection.

Steve Smith, David Warner, Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Travis Head, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa selected in both format in india,

Might be a terrific idea actually.
We'd see a very different set of players emerging across the game.
No place for the Kohlis and Rahanes of this world.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm warming to this idea.

Only Raja can Sponcer sacked Russel and zero with the bat Holder while Paddle can not accept Root and Cook in any ODI who can not bowl full 60 balls per innings.

Cookie is going to feast slowly upon this bowling.

We might wish that stokes or bairstow were at the other end to inject some impetus. I don't think Malan is going to race ahead when he knows he's a selection experiment close to being ended by a lack of contributions

Might be a terrific idea actually.
We'd see a very different set of players emerging across the game.
No place for the Kohlis and Rahanes of this world.
Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I'm warming to this idea.

I suspect Kohli would find 5 middle overs to bowl. As would Steve Smith, KW, Root and ABDV.

It would certainly force some multi skilling and make more for some very interesting contests when the donkey bowlers bowl.

It would bring AFG right into the contest more swiftly.

Hong Kong 6s I think had all bar w/k bowl. An icc t20 or 50 tournament in the 4 year cycle could be a cherished rarity.
If any moderator or administrator is able to add Going South to my foe list, I would greatly appreciate it.

Malan gone.
Pity - I wanted him to score big, so that he'd get a look-in for that flight Down Under.
That's one good thing about this Windies tour.
Hopefully rubbish England batsmen and bowlers do well, and get picked for the Ashes. :-)
