Kemar seems the threat of their attack. Don't know the rest.
Don't expect much of an issue beating them. Almost wish it was an issue, so WI test team can get back some self respect. It's almost socially awkward beating them at times.

Daren Bravo apologized of what he says for WICB but they not only Forgive but told him "" you are not in the list of 23 probable in the England tour""
Gayle also expect WI call but not get selected.

Bet you that every England team from 76 to 95 wish they could have played that team. There is maybe 4-5 Test class players in that squad.

68 lowest scores, 3 day game coming up Derby vs WI after 13 years.

England have dropped Jennings and selected Mark Stoneman as a replacement for yet another opening partner for Cook.
But more surprisingly Mason Crane has been selected. Still resisting the urge to make Moeen their main spinner.
FC average of over 40.00. What a joke
I suppose a home series against the West Indies is a place to experiment
Finn has been dropped for Woakes

Cook
Stoneman
Westley
Root
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Broad
Woakes
Roland-Jones
Anderson
I think that's half decent. I don't see any point playing Malan or leach when you've got Ali and that batting line up and strong tail

Crane doesn't have the county stats to warrant inclusion in the test team IMO. They're searching for spinners just because they're spinners. They've got one who is okay for an all rounder. Don't force in a weaker spinner at the expense of a decent fast bowler just because..... actually I can't even fathom their logic.

Any of our bowlers can stop the West Indies they're so weak. I don't follow the ECB logic. They're just trying extra spinners when they're not even thinking of replacing Moeen.
Pick Moeen and three seamers and stokes or four seamers and stokes and one less batsman.

I think we also need to stop this carousel of openers and just put hameed in the team. If hes out of nick then just hold on to him until he finds it. He is a long term prospect of serious potential and he will develop more long term in the team playing poorly than he will mooching around county cricket getting passed over by other short term stop gaps

Eng vs Afghanistan ( only test)
Eng vs Bangladesh ( 3 test)
Eng vs Zimbabwe (2 test)
Mo will be there for all test play in England and England only.

6 bowlers and 4 batsman. First low innings score you'll drop a bowler for a bat, just like this home season.

Trouble is, who? There seems to be next to nothing pushing for a batting slot in county cricket at present. Hales is fresh from a double century but he's tried and failed once already and he'd mean three openers in the top six

Nothing wrong with 3 openers in top 6. In fact, if they your best bats, and are good vs spin, nothing wrong with a top 5 of all openers. Opening is the moe difficult role, batting after 30 overs is tyically easier. Plenty of number 3s were openers pushed down by an additonal opener: Taylor with Marsh then Slater pushed Boon down to 3 where he stayed. There will be a tonne more examples.
Hales may actually do alright on flat n fast bouncy pitches in Straya.

But Boon was a much better test batsman.
I dunno. Just feels like England can't locate enough batsmen at the moment. They've burnt through all the openers. Pick Hameed and stick with him.

When NZ played Aus in the day night game, they kept a lot of grass on the pitch to protect the ball. There was a lot of swing in the evening for swing bowlers like Boult and Southee.
Last year, Safrica played Aus, and with a newer pink ball and there was less swing, but there was some. Put simply, Anderson will be looking forward to Adelaide but Australia will not hand over too much home advantage unnecessarily.
Adelaide is England's best chance at a win prior to Sydney.

Chase has had a good run up to this first test with two wickets, a century and a 60 as WI easily dismantled Derbyshire in the latest warm up.
The gap in quality between county and international cricket is disheartening, but does it mean that this West Indies unit may pack slightly more of a punch than the critics suggested before the tour began? If these young lads and working well together as a unit..... maybe they will win some sessions in this match. You never know.

It is a kookaburra ball with different colouring.
Ah. WI normally use Dukes at home is that right? So both teams using a less familiar ball.

EWCB uses Duke at home.
It will be a pink Duke for WI v Eng.
CA uses Kookaburra at home.
Day night cricket will favour NZ and Eng at home if pink balls continue to swing more than red, and the drop in temperature at night favours colder climate countries in autumn.
Tho Australia has their Canberra and Tasmania for conditioning.

Ah. Thought you said it was a pink kookaburra.

Somehow I expect WI to do better than SA.
They'll lose for sure, but there's something about this WI side that I like.
Their loss will be purely to skill & lack of experience, rather than being weak in the head (which I think the Saffers were).
If WI do ok, remember you heard it here first.

England will take them lightly

Another detail is that the second half of the English summer is usually easier for batsmen.
So if the WI batsmen really try to dig in, they might be able to play a long innings.
That said, there's a skill deficit for sure, so I won't be holding my breath on this one.

Am hoping so.
One of my favourite recent series is England losing that series in the Caribbean when Sarwan suddenly realised he could actually bat long innings.
What a fun series that was.
First Taylor bamboozled them in the opening Test, WI went 1-0 up - and despite some nerve-wracking moments, held on till the end to emerge series winners.
If I'm not mistaken that was also the series when Ravi Bopara got 2 hundreds in successive Tests.
Is he still around on the county scene? Any talk of returning to the England side?

You don't really think EWCB will play the Windies on dry turners? WI have sent a few spinners - Chase looks to be a good all rounder in the making.
