Jennings fell for 48 but Westley remains there on 32 and Root has just arrived and clipped a four off his legs

Highest successful run chase in the 4th innings 263 for 9 by England vs Australia in 1902 @Oval test

Wear and tear plus footmark from one end, probably difficult for SA to negotiate Mo.I think MALAN's Leggie could interesting too but root most unlikely to experiments him.

Westley played within his crease better today vs Rabada.i wish he stays till next decades as England need solid number 3 for future.sorry to Jennings who missed out his test 50.(36 came from 4's hit) Fair weather in forcast.yesterday Gower says '' all eye on Jennings' Today myself misty says '' all eyes on Roland Jones'' coz English supporter expect same 'killing power' from him for his first 8 overs, hey , my question '' is he successful under nice and bright sun shine?

Yes Boyce, its too early to say about him.
138/2
316 lead with 8 wits in hand.Root 32* yesterday VK hits 103 with 5 fours.Root need 68 more.W in 40's

Boyce's
ENG vs WI 1st test on Aug,17, I want you to change the subject on Aug.15 from

Windies test tour of England Aug,1st to Sep 29, 2017

Into

ENGLAND vs Westindies 1st test :Aug.17-21, 2017 at Edgbaston
So that way we have separate thread per each test.

Meanwhile if Paddles wants to sniff around, now thread open for him for his wonderful playground, plus Essex starts game vs them (WI) on Tues-thurs.

You can change it yourself mate. Just edit your post :)

Meanwhile Westley has 50 with a KP clip off the legs.

Impressive again. Much harder runs today. Beaten regularly along with everyone else. Third innings runs too. Looked solid. And what is more South Africa seem to have developed plans against him already and he's still made runs.

Super impressed

And Root is 36 from 58 and seems to be batting on another planet

Well this test match appears all over bar the shouting. That Roland-Jones spell has had Safrica too far behind, and England have kept their foot on the throat. But all that lost time to rain keeps some intrigue.

Will Safrica blockathon on this lively pitch or has England done enough to not lose the series heading into game 4.

5 sessions to go, England lead by 331 with 8 wickets in hand, what will Root do? What is the weather report.
If any moderator or administrator is able to add Going South to my foe list, I would greatly appreciate it.

You not read my post but 263 is highest successful Chase here in 1902, another 100 with declaration or bats further till Westley hits ton, but test match rule :
If you wants to win you must need 3 wickets before close on day 4 yes fair weather in forecast

I doubt I can change on Aug.15 ( Raja imposed latest rule :not to open thread till 48 hours only ) koz GS will back than, anyway, we can see later on.
What you think.? Root waits till Westley hits 100?

Shouldn't overlook bairstow either he's scored a hundred runs in this game.

And TRJ fifty runs and six wickets.

Stokes 140-odd and three wickets.

And cook has been just awesome. And Root exceptional too though should have nabbed a fifty in the first innings too but got a great delivery.

the atmosphere at the ground lacks any intensity

totally different to an ashes series, very pedestrian here

the crowd are asleep, the home team seem to be going through the motions.... there is no show of E-motions

I thought this was supposed to be an important series :?

jones now 8 wicket taker.but mo under bowl so no question of Malan's Leggie

8 th wicket add further 45* between Keshav m.and Solid Elgar yet its shame

Faf
AMLA
Kock
Scored only 10 between them in the second innings, they need to stay in the middle just like Timba bavuma to draw test but new ball might near corner good luck Jones to joins Nutty
-- Freddy Martin or Alec Bedser they both did wonder on debut.

Not many people know but Freddie Martin was FIRST BOWLER IN HISTORY OF CRICKET
WITH FIFER IN BOTH INNINGS on debut since than 146 player achieved the feat.

Salute to Freddie Martin to his performance

Congratulations, England.

Lucky that Philander wasn't able to bowl in the first innings. Reminded me of the Thommo & Lillee situation at the MCG in that 6th Test of 1974-75.
Why does England always have all the luck?

Having said that, SA batting was terrible in this game. Elgar getting 136 out of a score of 252 says a lot about the others. Barring Bavuma, none of the others troubled the English bowlers.

Will be very surprised if England don't retain the Ashes.

What does this mean for Woakes, Finn etc.

Anderson, Broad, TRJ, Woakes, Finn, Wood....who else?
Stokes is picked as all-rounder, so not counting him.

Anderson must be thinking of hanging his boots now. Amazing that he's been around this long.
I remember him as a young, promising bowler in 2002 or 2003.
But he's just 35.
Maybe another home Ashes series..(in 2-3 years' time).
