2nd innings ought to be better batting conditions than day 1. England has had more than its share of luck re Philander's injury. But this pitch ought to get Jimmy and Broady wanting extended spells vs Elgar, Kuhn and Bavuma.

Can't see that image paddles :(

Bairstow gone to a good delivery from rabada. It played a good hand for his 36. If Ali and broad can chip in 20-30 each around an 80+ from stokes I think we will be in a strong position

I'm oft one of his biggest critics but this is an innings of quality by Stokes.

How do England always manage to get players like this?

Botham, Flintoff, KP, Stokes...all with an X factor about them.

Stokes cameo takes England to 350; ought to be have 330 but Faf fluffed a boundary catch.

England have runs on the board. It will take a special effort for Safrica to get a meaningful lead. I think England got 50 or 70 more than Safrica woulda liked.

353 not safe either if you bats rotten as always in the second innings, only thing SOA need to go closer to England score and skilled out home team to take 2/1 lead in 4 match series.

Last year England's 328 small score vs Y.Khan's 218 with 200 ahead England surrender.

Yes he was under pressure of not making good score but I enjoyed his 4 sixes.his stand with R.Jones entertaining 37 in 7 overs

Roland-Jones to Amla. Wow.

So the entire cricketing world is now asking is this the pitch, or has England unearthed some significant talent?

The first England bowler since Tremlett to get a ball to rise sharply.

Even at his 82 mph pace, if he can bowl around a length on a straightish line to 3rd off stump with that kind of variable bounce, he will be a threat in straya.

Could just be the pitch - but Morkel and Rabada got nothing out of it like he has.

Golden boy has 4 on debut and England are well n truly on top. Angles an innocuous full one past de Kock who knicks off doing a Tom Latham impersonation.

Bowls a snorter to Bavuma first up.

Drs reviews show Bavuma was out.

As if England didn't already have rockstar performers, here's another one now.
Batted well, got 25, now a 4-fer.

Anderson picks up Faf too. 47/5.

England 3-1 this series, 5-0 Ashes.

Reminds me of John Lever's Test debut in Delhi in 1976-77.
England batted first, scored 381 - Lever made 51.

Then he rocked the Indian top order.
In a matter of a few overs, it was in absolute shambles.

Check out the scorecard here.

Yes Oil one . 10 for 70 on debut plus 53 runs

I strongly belives Roland should get chance long time ago but Frankly speaking I was not very optimistic for him for oval but hey it's history now.he should share m.o.match with BS

I wonder if, even if they get the option, England won't enforce the follow on. Today looks already the best batting conditions of the match. They might want South Africa to have to bat last chasing something mammoth.

Morkel falls to Jimmy!

Bavuma will be able to depend on Vernon though. Capable of getting a fifty partnership here. England need to be sharp.

Philander to Jennings, FOUR, dropped!. Thick edge as Jennings is opened up a bit. Flies to third slip who is surprised a bit, gets a hand to that but cannot snaffle it

Raja shree,

I think you missed 1946 series of England vs Us = India

R.Pollard of England at Manchester Test on debut 27/16/24/5
A.Bedser. Of England at Lords. Test vs India 29/11/49/7 ( total 11 on debut )

Someone named Fred Martin is only English bowler who took 5 or more wickets twice on debut vs Australia in ashes I think he took 6 for in each innings so 1 more than Bedser
Fred was also called Nutty who played 2 test for england.

Klusner took 8 on debut in an innings so he joined with Kretza and hirwani but hirwani repeat in second innings again with 8 more.

England totally scored 195 for 18 wickets but won the test because Nutty took 12 wickets on debut

6 for 50
6 for 52

MS took 6 wickets in his test career of 3 test but he took 4 and 2 on debut we talked about 5 wickets on debut per innings

I Have the list of 47 player who took 5 wickets haul on test debut and all of them English player playing for England.roland jones Last in the list as 47 th player my list includes
From Onion,Rashid, Botham,Cork etc but not Mike selvey but yes he had wonderful debut he too took first 4. I guess,

India were 0 for 4 vs English fast bowler who also makes debut,Right.?

Westley making a 2nd innings start. This pleases me. Jennings has a start too in an innings to save his career thus far.

All excitement for watching tomorrow. Super stupendous cricket watching.

Jennings looks as awful as Balance did though. Only a couple of cuts looked convincing. But i suppose that's how you have to play when you're trying to get into form out in the middle

Just stands there letting the ball hit the bat half the time it looks awful. Two French cuts fine leg. Only those couple of cut shots looked okay. Terrible form.

But he's still there!

Westley again looking good. Deserves a fifty on debut.

Cook looked to have been gotten out to a good ball.
