England Vs South Africa Live Cricket Score - 1st ODI match - Summary
Date: May 24, 2017 Venue: Headingley
South Africa play England in a three-match ODI series just before the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Both the sides are equally strong on paper and will look to get their combination right ahead of the marquee event. Touted as title contenders for the Champions Trophy, both the teams will come hard in a bid to gain some momentum in the bilateral series. The first match will be played at Headingly on May 24. The second tie (May 27) will be held at Rose Bowl, Southampton whereas the decider will be hosted by Lord’s cricket ground on May 29.
The first game will be held at Headingly which is a happy hunting ground for the hosts. They have won both their encounters versus the African nation and will like to build on that. Eoin Morgan’s side looks a well oiled line-up, who have been on a roll in the 50-over format. They are currently languishing at the fifth spot and will be eager to carry on with their form against the world No. 1 side in ODIs.
On the other hand, South Africa will be led by AB de Villiers. After a dismal campaign in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017, de Villiers will be recharged donning the national jersey. He is aware that the upcoming ICC event is his side’s best chance to win a major title after two decades. Henceforth, his squad will be eager to start well in the three-match series prior to the big tournament. The key players from the visitors’ camp will be de Villiers, Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and Kagiso Rabada.
On the other hand, hosts will be looking upto the services of Morgan, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes. Overall, an enthralling series awaits for spectators before the all-important ICC Championship

Re: England vs Southafrica 1st ODI,May 24,2017 at Headingley
My gut instinct tells me a close game but South Africa takes it, but then my gut is still loaded with the natural English pessimism that refuses to accept England as a competent (or even really good) ODI side. To be an England fan is to never completely trust your team, and to feel suspicious of every run of good form. Though maybe that's just an English thing in general!

I'd be tempted to play Morkel ahead of Phelekwayo.
Berhadein, Miller and Duminy lacking runs at 5 and 6 is a worry for them.

Well England take the series. I under estimated them. But South Africa snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in the end there. Otherwise it would have been open until the third match.
England as ready as they'll ever be to take home some silverwear

Poor batting by England and good bowling by SA in the final game. Will be 2:1. Credit to England in the first two games and they showed some fight in the second with their bowling, which is their weaker suit, but they've been distracted in this third match and so far have bowled poorly at amla and de kock. Lots of loose wides and deliveries on the pads.

Well we don't need separate threads for warm up matches.
