Warwickshire v Lancashire

Postby Team_TwIIsTeD » Wed Jun 28, 2017 4:26 pm

The pink ball is not suiting either bowling attacks and neither team are able to play well. i think that essex are doing great with the pink ball. Umeed gave a great shout as best innings this season for warwickshire.

It's the RL one day final today. Surrey facing Nottinghamshire.

101/1 from 15.5 overs. Stoneman 55 and the sublime sorcerer Sangakkara 9 and taking it steady.

Broad and Pattinson in the Notts attack.

Michael Lumb has been forced into retirement by injury

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/40662862

Nottinghamshire and former England batsman Michael Lumb has been forced to retire because of an ankle injury.

The 37-year-old, who previously played for Yorkshire and Hampshire, was a member of England's World T20-winning side in 2010.

Lumb was also in the Notts team that beat Surrey in the One-Day Cup final at the beginning of the month.

"I'm extremely disappointed I've had to retire, but I have to respect medical opinion," he said.

His retirement is a further blow for Notts, who lost seam bowler Luke Fletcher for the rest of the summer after he was struck on the head by the ball in a recent T20 Blast match.

Lumb scored 11,443 first-class runs during his career, including 21 centuries, at an average of 34.

But his international recognition came in limited-overs cricket and he played 27 T20 and three one-day internationals for England.

Lumb made only two in the World T20 final against Australia in Bridgetown in 2010, but England lifted the trophy after a seven-wicket win.

He made his last international appearance in 2014, but has also played in the Indian Premier League and Australia's Big Bash competition.

"He's a hugely talented batsman that has entertained cricket followers all over the world," said Notts director of cricket Mick Newell.

"He's a great role model to others and a superb professional."

Though not official as he did not play enough (official averages are topped by Trott's 51-odd) Lumb has one of the highest ODI averages across his three games thanks to his only ODI century. He averaged 55.00 over his brief ODI career.

Could have had a longer stint perhaps, but others moved into the breach.

I always thought Michael Lumb was rubbish.
But then I was only judging him based on his IPL performances - and I don't remember anything much from him.
There was probably one game where I vaguely seem to remember him contributing.

Retired at 28? English county news

Greg Smith has scored 4963 runs in 105 first-class games

Nottinghamshire player Greg Smith has announced his retirement from cricket at the young age of 28. This comes just a day after Michael Lumb, from the same English county, had his career cut short due to an ankle injury.

Smith, who came over from Leicestershire ahead of the 2015 season, had played just four first-team matches this season. He will now pursue a career elsewhere.

"I'd like to thank everyone associated with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club for making it such an enjoyable few years," Smith said. "It feels like the right time for me to move on from cricket. I'll leave the game having met some incredible people and with some amazing memories.

"I'm sure, with the quality within the current squad, Nottinghamshire will continue to enjoy plenty of success in the years to come," he added.

Nottinghamshire director of cricket, Mick Newell, respected Smith's decision and wished him the best for the future. "It's sad to see Greg leave the club, but he's found it a struggle to get into the first-team this season and we respect that he now considers he is ready to begin a new chapter in his life," Newell said.

"He has played some important innings in his time with us, particularly in white ball cricket. We wish him every success in whatever he chooses to do next."

Former England U-19 international Smith bows out with 4963 first-class runs and over and more than 1100 runs each in List A and T20s.

Wonder if Sidebottom will call it a day too. But he's been getting great returns last couple of years.

Lumb has moved into t20 commentary already. I wonder if someone had already had a conversation with him before he retired. In fact given the timing it's a near certainty.

What i hate is how the are going to city based in some english sides. Nobody wants to see Taunton play Kennington. That doesn't bring in the TV or Radio audience. Somerset vs Surrey brings in the Audience.

I also think that English Domestic needs a TV channel dedicated to it. Mabye a Sky Cricket only channel that shows All the List A and First Class English Matches aswell as the IPL, Big Bash, CPL and pakistani league.

There is already a Sky Cricket TV channel.

Remember only the T20 league is on at the moment, the four day championship matches will resume shortly
