He was call in the Indian team during games vs England for reserves player but not get chance in xl.

Congratulation Warner for 600 IPL runs this season in 13 matches.win by 8 wickets for SRH

Kolkata Knight Riders v Mumbai Indians
Kolkata, May 13, 2017
Start time 2000 local

Hogg: Narine and Lynn are exactly what KKR need at the top

Head to head

Overall: With a 14-5 record, Mumbai Indians have owned this fixture. Their 14 wins are the joint-most by a team against any opponent in the IPL. Mumbai have also won their last four games against Knight Riders. At Eden Gardens, Mumbai have a 5-2 record.

Form guide

Kolkata Knight Riders (second): lost to Kings XI Punjab by 14 runs, beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets, lost to Rising Pune Supergiant by four wickets

Mumbai Indians (first): lost to Kings XI Punjab by seven runs, lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets, beat Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs

This season: A spectacular finish, in which 61 runs were scored off the last four overs, had Mumbai overhaul Knight Riders' total of 178 off the penultimate ball.

In the news

Shakib Al Hasan won't be part of the rest of Knight Riders' season, having joined Bangladesh's squad for their tri-series in Ireland. Nathan Coulter-Nile, who suffered a blow on his helmet grille against Rising Pune Supergiant, has been ruled out of this game. Suryakumar Yadav was hit on the back of the head during a batting drill and may not be available for selection.

Chris Woakes, for Knight Riders, and Jos Buttler, for Mumbai, won't be part of the playoffs - heading off on England duty - but are available for this game.

Qualification scenario

Mumbai qualified for the playoffs a while ago. A win against Knight Riders will mean they finish the round-robin stage at No. 1. Given their superior net run rate, even a loss here is highly likely to have them finish in a coveted top-two spot.

Rising Pune Supergiant's loss to Delhi Daredevils on Friday has all but secured Knight Riders' playoff spot. Given their net-run-rate advantage over the next three teams - Pune, Sunrisers and Kings XI - there is only the slimmest of mathematical chances of them missing out, and that is highly unlikely to come about.

Instead, KKR's focus will be on finishing in the top two. If they beat Mumbai, depending on the margin of victory, they could top the table. If they lose, to finish in the top two they will need Sunrisers and Pune to lose their final games.

Who should open for KKR?

Lynn-Narine
Lynn-Gambhir
Gambhir-Narine
Uthappa should be opening

Kolkata Knight Riders: 1 Sunil Narine, 2 Chris Lynn, 3 Gautam Gambhir (capt), 4 Robin Uthappa (wk), 5 Manish Pandey, 6 Yusuf Pathan, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Chris Woakes, 9 Kuldeep Yadav, 10 Umesh Yadav, 11 Ankit Rajpoot

Mumbai Indians: 1 Lendl Simmons, 2 Parthiv Patel (wk), 3 Nitish Rana, 4 Rohit Sharma (capt), 5 Kieron Pollard, 6 Hardik Pandya, 7 Karn Sharma, 8 Harbhajan Singh, 9 Mitchell McClenaghan, 10 Lasith Malinga, 11 Jasprit Bumrah

Despite Knight Riders' loss against Kings XI Punjab, sticking with the Lynn-Narine combination at the top may not be a bad idea, given how ruthless they have been in the Powerplay overs.

But there may be a case for Robin Uthappa at No. 3 - instead of Gambhir - if Knight Riders lose a wicket early. Uthappa enjoys the Powerplay overs and scores at a strike-rate (135.90) higher than his captain (123.50). Besides, Gambhir, an excellent player of spin, can negate the strength of Mumbai's spinners, Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma, in the middle overs.

Stats that matter

• KKR's run rate of 9.87 in the Powerplay so far this season is the highest ever by any IPL side in a season.

• Gautam Gambhir has scored 22 runs in 34 balls (strike rate 64.70) when he has not opened the batting this season. He hasn't hit a boundary, and has a sub-100 strike rate in both his innings. In the first 11 games of the season - where he opened - he had a strike rate of below 100 just once.

• Rohit Sharma's sensational form at Eden Gardens is not limited to just international cricket. In the IPL, he has scored 335 runs in five innings here, with an average of 167.50 and a strike rate of 155.09. His scores at Eden Gardens for Mumbai have been 10, 109*, 34, 98* and 84*. Mumbai have won four of those five games.

• Mitchell McClenaghan has been effective in the end overs for Mumbai, but has been woeful in the middle overs. In the Powerplay, he has taken nine wickets at an economy rate of 7.61, the joint-highest wicket-taker in the Powerplay this season.
In the middle overs (overs 7-15), he has an economy rate of 12.44 and an average of 112, the worst economy rate for any bowler who has bowled at least five overs.
He has been Mumbai's best end-overs bowlers, taking seven wickets with an economy rate of 8.43.

• Manish Pandey has struggled against Harbhajan Singh and Lasith Malinga in the IPL. In 103 balls against both bowlers, he has scored 100 runs and has been dismissed eight times.

• Against Rohit, Knight Riders could perhaps use Sunil Narine, who has conceded just 77 runs in 71 balls against him. He has also dismissed Rohit once in three innings at Eden Gardens, and had him lbw in the reverse fixture earlier this season, albeit to an umpiring error

Missed the game completely today.
Just saw the scoreboard - it underlines how strong Mumbai are.

Rayudu comes in for Nitish Rana - and immediately shows us what a valuable player he is.
In fact Rayudu has been one of the most valuable - and underrated - players in the history of the IPL.

He has regularly rescued Mumbai Indians when they've found themselves in trouble.

Something that I can't recall Gayle ever doing for RCB.

Manish Pandey - 33 off 33.
Even in ODIs, that's below par nowadays.
In T20, you need an SR of at least 150 nowadays, so more like 50 off 33 would be in order.

So Narine got found out as opener?
It's one thing to thrash trundlers of RCB all around the park.
Quite another to face Southee quality.

I felt that KKR threw the match away. Still, they should be OK to qualify in P4. If RPS win tomorrow against KXIP, then they go to P2, KKR get confirmed in P4 and SRH get demoted to P3. But if KXIP win, they will be either P3 or P4 with KKR (depending on the NRR), SRH remain at P2 and RPS get squeezed out due to their poor NRR.

I do not mind any of the other team winning but I don't want MI to lift the trophy again. The team contains several players that I dislike.

I think Punjab vs Calcutta game today more important than IPL FINAL.At this point,we do not know who will play final?

Other day PUNE were beaten vs third class team but who can imagine Tripathy /Msd's combined scores were 12 in a match. One bad spell changed the game,i wish no rains@ cricket Fields because rains in Gujarat for forcast in next 48 hours, well, we need some rains in India especially heat waves reached 45.9 to 47.04 Celsius everywhere.D.Warner hates 4 pm game.Heat waves broken 1000 years old record, you can say 120+ temp.

I myself in Gujarat for next 120 hours, feel, I walked inside Furness.

RISING PUNE SUPERGIANT V KINGS XI PUNJAB: Some factoids to consider:-

Ben Stokes is the only player with over 250 runs and more than 10 wickets in the 2017 IPL. Overall, he is the 10th player to do the double in the league phase of an IPL season. Jacques Kallis did it three times (2010, 2012 and 2013) and Shane Watson achieved it twice (2008 and 2013).

MS Dhoni, who is having his worst IPL as far as strike rate and average go, has an imposing record against Axar Patel - 63 runs off 37 balls at a strike rate of 170.27 and no dismissals.

Kings XI have scored over 50 runs in the last five overs of each of their last four games. They had done so only three times in their first eight matches this IPL

Kings XI have changed their batting fortunes in the slog overs in recent matches. In their first nine matches, they scored at 9.23 per over and lost 21 wickets in the last five overs. In their last four matches, they have scored at 11.45 per over and lost only eight wickets.

Don't get me wrong, it is nothing personal. But there is something about the players' attitude when they play for Mumbai Indians that annoys me in the extreme whereas I do not feel the same dislike when they individually represent their countries.

I'll start with Keiron Pollard. He never shows the same kind of application and determination when he plays for the West Indies as he does for MI. I am a big West Indies cricket fan and feel very sorry about their present decline in international cricket. I know Pollard is not the cause for it but his double standards are something that I cannot stand.

Likewise, Malinga practically gave-up playing full time playing for SL very prematurely. IPL probably is not the main reason for it but then it must at least be one of them. I used to enjoy watching his crazy action playing for SL but nor for MI.

Then there is Rohit Sharma. He is more dedicated to MI's success than his own contribution to the Indian team, where is form is often patchy.

Bumrah never bowls as well for India as he does for MI. There are other examples.

All that makes me think that those players are more interested in the fat paychecks that they get from MI than being proud to represent their countries. I know that to some extent that is true of ALL IPL players but somehow the guys in blue represent it more than any other team.

Live Match Thread: Indian Premier League; April 5-May 21, 2017

Postby Going South » Sun May 14, 2017 8:41 am

Danav, excellent post.

Many cricketers now prefer IPL success than country success as it makes economic sense as they do it for their wife or kids to put food on dining table. Nothing wrong to work as CONSULTANT or paid MERCENARY. It's also a job. That one month job pays much more than what boards pay over entire year. Family needs often dictate a man what to do. I have empathy towards West Indies cricket players in particular. Look at the mismanagement of windies board. They don't give a chance to genuine skilled cricketers in playing 11 due to politics. As windies board is not of one country but many different small countries the selection is always favorable to big powerful countries who get lions share. This is similar to the way Mumbai players often get to play in playing 11, more so in last decades.

Also IPL is played only one month of an year. When the cricketers enter the IPL auction they are supposed to get NOC. so boards know ahead of time which player won't be available during April & may on their own country tours when they give NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATES. When it's that clear, why gripe when they actually play IPL instead of local country tours? Some players have an understanding with boards and left IPL in May to serve for their boards. Pollard is different. He does not have understanding as it's windies board we are talking here. Many of other players are already retired from test and ODI cricket and hung their boots but are playing IPL to support their families.

PA: Don't mind Misty. He was wrong many times and got warnings from mods often on his own attitude.

He was call in the Indian team during games vs England for reserves player but not get chance in xl.

Congratulation Warner for 600 IPL runs this season in 13 matches.win by 8 wickets for SRH

Wait! Shankar was called into the Indian squad during games against England as a reserve?

I hadn't even heard of the guy till a few days ago.

Daanav, your point taken - GS has replied well to it.

I'd like to add my bit too.

Need to see it as human nature, and what's at stake.

IPL is the big prize for players - their life is taken care of if they can get a good IPL contract.
At the same time, IPL (being franchise-run) is like the private sector.
Perform or perish.

Playing for the country is more like playing for the public sector.
Yes, here too your failures will not be tolerated for too long - but the country is a "nameless" boss, compared to your very real franchise boss. Yes, fans will bash you - you might get dropped, but so what? You still usually have an annual contract (which compared to the IPL isn't that brilliant anyway).

I know it's not a good analogy but it's to loosely make a point.

Much more at stake in IPL for the players. It's in their personal interest to push themselves to the maximum, make every match count.

Dhoni in a post-match presentation himself said "I never felt so much pressure playing for India as I feel, playing for CSK". This was after CSK won a must-win match. He was SO relieved.

I dislike Mumbai Indians too - but not because players seem to push themselves more for MI than for their country. That can apply to all franchisees. And I don't think Rohit Sharma pushes himself any less for India than he does for MI.

I dislike Mumbai Indians because they remind me of a Karan Johar film. They have big names, batsmen and bowlers. Their Indian cricketers also are top-notch. Their coaches, batting, bowling, fielding are also the biggest names in the game. Obviously their chances of winning are boosted. They're too sure-footed for me.

When Delhi Daredevils, with Dravid as coach, wins a game with the likes of Samson, Nair or Pant, it feels really nice.

When Mumbai Indians wins a game, even with guys like Nitish Rana, Hardik Pandya or Krunal Pandya (all young Indians), it doesn't feel the same.

Maybe it's just me. I'm just biased. :-)

You mean Punjab vs Pune, don't you? I am rooting for Maxwell's KXIP. They should have had 2 more points but needlessly lost that game against GL. With GL needing 24 rums on 2 overs to win, KXIP should have held their nerve but didn't. They made up by achieving the rare feat of beating MI in Mumbai and cannot let their guard down now. Sandeep Sharma should bowl 3 overs in the Powerplay and Mohit Sharma, who seems to be coming back into form, keep 2 overs at the death.

RPS have just won the toss and chosen to bowl. Looks like Stokes is playing. Maybe he is taking the late flight out back to the UK.

Stokes will be a huge miss if Supergiant make the final as this is his last game. And I think if anyone should move up the order then it should be Stokes and not MSD. Here are the teams and the Supergiant won the toss and field.

Rising Pune Supergiant

Rahul Tripathi
Ajinkya Rahane
Steve Smith (C)
Manoj Tiwary
MS Dhoni (W)
Ben Stokes
Dan Christian
Washington Sundar
Shardul Thakur
Jaydev Unadkat
Adam Zampa

Kings XI Punjab

Martin Guptill
Eoin Morgan
Shaun Marsh
Glenn Maxwell (C)
Wriddhiman Saha (W)
Axar Patel
Rahul Tewatia
Swapnil Singh
Ishant Sharma
Mohit Sharma
Sandeep Sharma

That opening bowling from Ireland was not the best. Too many full, slow and wide balls as they searched for swing but down a wrong wide line too often enabling Ronchi to free his arms and hit through the off side with cover and point fielders inside the circle.

Ronchi has acored lots of domestic and even trst ryns since his rot - so its not a case of him back into odi form just yet.

More dissapointed in George Workers 17(39) scoring rate.

Latham is still nicking off.

I've seen little to suggest any good reliable support for KW, Gup and Taylor in those 3 just yet.
If any moderator or administrator is able to add Going South to my foe list, I would greatly appreciate it.

If this was a boxing bout, the referee should stop it!
