LOL Kohli going hard at Maxi
I'd like to see Maxi do the shoulder rub in his face if he sees it through to stumps

As well as Marsh played he looked vulnerable and not because of the ruff.. good players take those things out of the equasion. Anyway SOS you have helped save a test match for your country along with a very good cricketer in Pete Handscomb.
Mick we can come out from behind the sofa now mate.

India could run through the last 4 here quite fast and we may see India needing 40 off about 2 or 3 overs

Could the Indian brains trust have got too cute by batting on too long yesterday. Or did they understimate or not give sufficient respect to Australia's famed battling qualities?
We have won many battles, on and off the cricket ground, in our short history with our backs to the wall. This is another.

Don't forget Kohli sat in the dressing room for 2 days so wont be as tired.
Smithy should declare and make India face i over. Kohli can't declare Australia would win.
Thats it, you bloody beauty Aussies, been decades since Australia saved a match like that on the last day.

I'd be tempted to elevate Wade above Maxwell for 2nd innings in this series or similar conditions (eg Bangladesh)
he's got a much better defense

Aussies can carry greater confidence into the last test now. I shall call that a moral victory for the baggy greens.

The last time i can think of Australian batsman fighting it out for a draw on the last afternoon is the 3rd Ashes test of 94-95, can't think of any since.

Kohli actually said the harder ball helped the Australians when they were bowling, but the two balls they were given were soft

You are dead right on the 1st match, how did i forget that one, still a lot of Cricket played in the interim and far to many failed attempts to save a match by the Aussies in the 13 yrs since.
As for the 2nd match, i was actually only referring to the last afternoon heroics to save a match, there are plenty of times Australia has surreneded a 1st innings lead and then got themselves into a position to win a match. Which with India chasing 229 on the last day the Aussies were definitely in it.

He had better get someone else to select the balls for the 4th test then, it's his bowlers that selected the balls, blame them.

having watched that match, I can tell you they batted to save it. some of the most pressure I've ever seen withstood.

BCCI
Ishant, Umesh, Ashwin, Jadeja
This has got to hurt the Indians! After the 4th day, they'd probably begun imagining the post-match celebrations.
Well done, Handscomb & Marsh.
Now looking forward to a 2-1 at Dharamsala. For Smith's boys, of course. That would be just amazing, considering how some folks were talking of a 4-0 for BCCI before the series started. Please make it happen.

I'm not sure of the identity of the cuplrit(s) but Pujara received what was rightfully Jadeja's. 9 wickets and a 50 against a 200. Pujara prevented India from losing with his sloooooooow innings, Jadeja's efforts gave India a chance to win it.

There are 6 more batsmen that failed other than pujara. Had they stayed pujara might not have played this slow and cautious. Can't blame him.

I think India got their tactics right with the bat, grind Australia into the dirt, certainly has been working with Australian sides for the last decade, but their bowlers were just not up to it on the last day, both sides were a bowler short on that wkt.

they seem to give two MoM's for each match. Jadeja got one of them - maybe Pujara got the more prestigious one. remember India is a batting country, batting achievements are rated above bowling achievements

I think the 1st one is just an award from a sponsor and the 2nd one is the official award. It was really a toss of the coin decision, neither would have been wrong.

The idea for Pujara's marathon innings was to keep Australia out in the field in the sweltering heat for as long as possible so they would be totally stuffed when it came time to bat. Aussies are made of sterner fibre than that as they proved by saving the game. Back to the drawing board BCCI.

That doesn't explain Jadeja looking to score quick runs. Saha was comfortably batting at a better pace as well as had Rahul before Pujara came to the wicket. Pujara does not have an IPL contract (nor one of significant $$$ note anyway), and his SR in T20 and his 5 odi is noticably slow. I don't think he has found a higher tempo of run scoring that he is comfortable with as yet. Nevertheless, less hangover effects than zopiclone gives.
But it was impressive of Handscombe and SMarsh to see the final day out after the early wicket losses of premier batsmen. NZ would have typically folded in that situation. England as well.

Handscomb has threatened to do somethingt like this after getting starts and then falling. I rate him our best player of spin. SOS battled thru on sheer guts I am thinking..certainly not technique. So Pujara got MOM? I had Smithy. I suppose either of those two or Jadeja.

there's two ways to play spin bowling on a turning pitch
either get forward and use your feet, or play back and use your reach
Marsh favoured the latter. It doesnt look at 'pretty' but equally effective. You take stumping out of the equation, whilst the Michael Clarke style dancing feet method is possibly better for variable bounce.

'' it does not look pretty but equally effective" Effective if you execute correct judgement and have some luck. You have to admit SOS does not look comfortable facing spin. There are those that look in control after a handful of balls and you know they are going to survive more often than not. I have so little faith in SOS . He looks as tho he could be out almost any ball.
