This may be the most pointless exercise in the history of International Cricket, what is the point of playing Klinger, should have given a younger batsman like Patterson or Lehmann a spot for the experience. I would have given Head the captaincy to gain some experience as he has future Aussie Capt written all over him.

T20 AUST. v Sri Lanka

Postby baggygreenmania » Wed Feb 15, 2017 11:49 am

Some of Australia's most promising cricketers have been given exposure to international cricket tonite with the PM X1 and Sri Lanka sides doing battle in a warm up match for the three game T20 International series later this week..

Donning the national colors for the first time at Canberra's boutique Manuka Stadium were Arjun Nair, Hilton Cartwright, Darcy Short, Jason Sangha, Henry Thornton and Alex Carey. Have I missed any?

In an entertaining affair the tourists were too strong for the PM boys chasing down the runs with almost three overs to spare. Best for the PMX1 were Sam Heazlett and Adam Voges with the bat while left arm chinaman Short was the pick of the bowlers with a pair of wickets and was unlucky not to snare a hatrick.

Dickwella and Tharanga laid the platform for the Lankans with Bandara the best with the ball taking three PMX1 scalps.

I am not sure the likes of Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner would be agreeing with you..their first taste of senior international cricket. As for Maxie Klinger he has earned his chance to finally wear the national colors. I would also have preferred he was handed the captain's badge as this will likely be his first and last game for his country before he retires soon.

My issue with this series is the timing, Australia & Sri Lanka are making a mockery of International Cricket by playing this series while Australias 16 best players are in India. Play it by all means but call it what it is Aus A v SL and demote it to List A where it belongs. Great for Jhye Richardson & Ashton Turner, im happy to see them picked but they are something like the 31st & 32nd players picked for Australia in the last month.
The crowd sizes will be interesting, Geelong should get a good crowd, but the rest?

Sri Lanka show worst performance in ODI Games during the ODI Series and They are play best cricket in T20 Series and won T20 Series by 2-1 and lose ODI series by 5-0. We can watch some interesting matches between them..

The women are also playing a T20 today against NZ. The Southern Stars have opted for a spin heavy attack on a slow MCG track.

International debuts for Molly Strano and 19 year old Ashleigh Gardner. Amanda Jade-Wellington is also playing her first T20. Huge loss for the Southern Stars with star all rounder Ellyse Perry sidelined with injury.

Amanda Jade Wellington was the star with the ball for the Southern Stars with 3-15 with her deceptive leggies while Villani was player of match for her 73. Lanning also hit a fine 60 to lay the platform for the win.

The men kick off their series at 7.30pm against Sri Lanka.

Talking about Ellyse Perry. Yes she played soccer for Australia at the same time as she played cricket. A very large workload so she dropped soccer. Your friend has missed out as Ellyse is now married. She is Australia's finest women cricketer in my view.. even better than Meg Lanning.

I will not be happy if CA has dumped our regular T20 kit. The girls wore the wattyl gold.

Lankans won toss and have sent Australia in. Michael Klinger must be tickled pink to be finally wearing Aussie colors. He should open with Finch.

Malinga is so much slower now. Low 130's. He's podgy but not getting fatter, just cuddly still.

His yorker is still on target but at the slower pace a leg glance/drop shot square is easier to play and time.

Could put a square leg and fine leg both in field to counter tho. Talented batsmen may try inside out over offside with less talented geting bowled.

Put simply, Starc is the best yorker bowler currently playing by a long margin. Malinga < Bumrah at this pace.

A thriller in the end. Well done Lankans. Australia lost that game when Finch handed the ball to Billy Stanlake. Some poor bowling by our quicks..other than Cummins and Faulkner. Zampa continues to impress in this format.

I like Finch's progress as a captain. His unnsuccessful but incredibly thoughtful last ball field set demonstrated to me a lot of nous and canny. Credit where credit due. I criticise his full ball outside off batsman play (as do many) but his captaincy nous is developing.

Actually all the Captains reckon it's the hardest of all Cricket to captain, you have to be on the ball evry single delivery, with the degree of change over of strike your changing the field all the time, you change the bowler every over just about or thinking about it. Compare that to 50 over Cricket where the run rate is not as high, you leave the bowlers on for 3-5 over spells and Test Cricket where there's a lot more defensive batting and bowlers bowl 5-7 over spells.

Australia lost it when Henriques came on. 35 off the last 2 overs should have had it in the bag. 22 runs from Henriques that was a expected from part-time bowler and not a very good one at that. The stupidity of the decision was compounded considering Cummins and Turner had 3 overs available between them. 13 runs with 3 wickets in hand for the final over was too easy for the Sri Lankans no matter who was bowling. Aaron Finch is not a thoughtful captain IMO, should have held Faulkner back to bowl his last 2 overs at the death, and Cummins should have bowled out his overs. Can't blame Tye, Faulkner, Richardson or Turner who had them 5/40 after 4.3 overs.

Finch has used mugs as death bowlers twice now,

I blame Ponting poking his nose in. he could never get his bowling right in tight ones.

Entertaining cricket. Clever low full toss bowling by the Lankans reaped three late wickets and kept the Aussies under 200. Klinger is a good player. Just goes about his job with a minimum of fuss.
