Some off-beat songs

Postby raja » Thu Apr 29, 2010 8:02 am

We had a similar thread on the old forum.
http://www.cricforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=374

I would like to revive the thread. Maybe Atul will find some material here for his blog. :-)

Just heard this song a couple of days ago - after many many years. I had last heard this when I was a little boy. Atul has already posted this one but there may be more coming up here which he may not have posted yet.

OK, here is a song that Atul has not posted yet. I used to love this song as a young boy - and ever since I heard it again a few days ago, have been listening to it almost daily. It is based on the maxim "laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone". Lovely, uplifting song. Kishore has sung it just beautifully.

Just heard this lovely Rafi saab song just now - had never heard it before.
Unfortunately Pradeep Kumar makes a mess of it - his feet and hands hardly move.
This song should have been on Shammi Kapoor. He would have done full justice to it.

*** This thread is also meant to be used by Atul as a farmaish thread for songs that he has not yet posted. *** :-)
For example, the previous song I posted (haseenon se...from Ustadon Ka Ustad) is such a fab song I have been listening to it for days now.
Atul, could you please consider posting that one ?

And today I discovered another nice song which I am putting forward to Atul as a farmaish. From Agra Road.

Another farmaish for Atul. Sounds like a fun song.
Not sure the audio is clear enough though to get the lyrics properly.
Rafi saab yodelling like this is not all that common.

I know Atul does not rate Shashi Kapoor - and this song will certainly not add to his "liking" for Shashi's dancing. ;-)

Johnny Walker is always a pleasure to see in a movie/clip.
Here in Basant, the Shammi-Nutan starrer.

I remember this song from my childhood.
Ultimate Roadside Romeo song. :-)
Was quite popular at that time - not surprising.
Atul may remember this.

Came across this absolutely delightful song today - from Dholak (1951) *ing Ajit and Meena Shorey.
Lyrics : Aziz Kashmiri, Music : Shyam Sundar.

I see that Atul has posted lots of songs of this movie on his song blog but this one is still not posted. Atul ?

This is exactly why these songs need to get onto Atul's blog.

This song brings back lots of memories. I first heard this song as a young boy - when I saw the movie.
Very sweet song.
Sung separately by Talat Mahmood and Lata Mangeshkar.

From Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja (1961) *ing Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman

Prints are not good - maybe Atul can find better ones but the song is just beautiful. I would request Atul to put this on his blog.

Long before Vyjanthimala and Helen had that famous competition dance in Prince together, they had this one in Dr. Vidya (1962).

Memories of Dheeraj Kumar, an aspiring hero in the late 60s/early 70s.
He never made it - the whole country got swept away in the Rajesh Khanna wave.
He was the hero in this movie "Raaton Ka Raja" (1970). I remember it very well because it had my name in the title.
I used to sing this song for a long time.
"Mere liye aati hai shaam, chanda bhi hai mera ghulaam, dharti se sitaaron tak hai mera intezaam, raaton ka raaja hoon main". :-)
It is so great to be able to find these songs on the net.
Where else would I be able to listen to such songs after 40 years?

Used to love this song once upon a time. Catchy song from Do Kaliyaan (1968). This was "the other catchy song" (the more famous one was "tumhari nazar kyon khafa ho gaye" which used to play on AIR all the time. :-)).

This movie was a massive hit.

That's a lovely song.

Here's a song I chanced upon today - after at least 35 years, if not more.
It is a really lovely song - from an unheard-of movie.
Atul, you need to post this one on your blog asap. It totally belongs there. :-)
